I've spent a lot of my life playing MMOs such as WoW, Runescape, FFXIV and many many others. I've made friends for life who I've had such great adventures with along the way. Unfortunately, a lot of MMOs that are released on the market these days are uninspiring and just don't feel right. Damascus is one of my all-time favorite games. Like you, I've been yearning, for a new home. I've found that within Damascus. Damascus is a unique fantasy / post-apocalyptic game that took inspiration from classic Runescape. There are 19 skills that you can currently level to 99. Rather you're into skilling, combat, or both, you can choose your own path. You are not locked into any class or specific playstyle. Every playstyle feels very rewarding. Do everything or one thing. Do you want to build a trading empire? Do you want to slay dragons? Both? You can do it. Damascus was developed by two people, Dom and Wyn. They are super passionate about making this game a wonderful place to be and have created a game that they themselves want to play. There is no corporate interest driving content decisions. Just gamers making games. I've never had so much interaction with developers of an MMO before. It's always been a shroud of mystery. You ask yourself: Why aren't the devs listening to us? Why are they making these changes? It leaves me feeling disappointed and frustrated, but it's the exact opposite here. The developers are constantly interacting with the community within Discord. They are transparent about their game design philosophies, always listening to feedback, and helping new players. They want this game to succeed and you can feel the passion in what they do. Having been a part of many gaming communities, Damascus is comprised of the most friendly group of adventurers I've ever met. Everyone wants to see each other succeed and reach their goals. From giving tips, to passing out starter items, they are here to help. Community events are being ran almost every weekend to bring everyone together and have a good time. They are such a blast! The content / bug releases have been very consistent and rapid since release. The developers have committed to releasing new updates every week. They have done skill reworks, released a new boss, had a limited time cosmetic drop event, and so many quality of life fixes just within the first month. They are pushing content out at such an astonishing pace. For a lot of these content updates, the developers post polls within Discord to ensure they are prioritizing content correctly. Being apart of this process is very refreshing. The game has been in development for just one year. There are many different features in the roadmap, but it does have an early access feel. It's an amazing thrill to be on the ground floor of such a wonderful game. A lot of people wish they could have been there when Runescape first released. With Damascus, you can. There's a lot of features in the pipeline: an auction house, social features, group dungeons, PvP, new skills, player housing, and many many more. There's so much to look forward to.
Conclusion
Overall, Damascus is a wonderful game. It's full of amazing people and a lot of content to sink your teeth into. Give it a try. You won't regret your time within Damascus. Welcome home. I look forward to seeing you in game!

This is a pretty unfortunate case. Which could be changed in months or a years time, or not. As the game skipped Early Access it allows for full reviews without the excuse to fall back on being so. Will modify review over time with updates and further time investment. One major point to remember, especially in Indie games, stay humble. Skipping Early Access was an incredibly bad marketing decision, being on Steam at all was a bold move. It's easy to say passion is there, but, actions speak louder than words. Some incredibly alarming signs that are immediately shown is that a cosmetic shop is in view from where you start, which is fine. The problem is if you take a very short walk to the left you will also be met with the message: "You cannot go there you are not a member". You are thrown into an immediate double transaction thrown at you, which does come off as a cash grab. Sell membership. Sell cosmetics. Don't shove it down someones throat upon launch. The argument I have seen is that free to play is a demo or 17/19 skills are free to play and you can trade for a "bond" for 14 days or pay $3.99+tax. Cosmetics prices are just absurd going up to $39.99+tax for a bear head that should just be an optional race if anything. The art style is incredibly simple, most being able to be created within a very short time period. This isn't a bad thing but to say the value is equivalent to purchasing a $40 game is just poorly implemented. Announced is that the cosmetic shop will also rotate. Time limited is a poor way to create psuedo-value. All of this aside if I were to bring a small group onto the game to test the free to play version we would all be standing around waiting to share resources as there aren't any to support more than a handful at best. The map is awkwardly cut for free to play to ensure on the edge of your screen you are shown members areas. I haven't felt claustrophobic in an MMO until this game. You have an incredibly lazily done introduction that is incomplete and doesn't explain much followed by no direction given or explanation. Uninspired skills and creatures that are copy paste of other more reputable games which offer more to their free players. There just isn't anything unique about this game to warrant any of the decisions made. This game will fail as it is, if none of this is addressed, fast. Everything is empty and hollow. I don't see heart in the game. Hours will rack up for players due to idle skills.
If you like classic MMOs, you should check out this game!
Its plays like a hybrid of Caves of Qud; Runescape and RPG-MO ... with three major improvements: 1. Responsive Developers who are super passionate about the game, the players, and consistently deliver updates + new content. They draw inspiration from the player base and deliver content people want. You truly feel like you as a player are shaping the game and that the developers live up to their mission in building a game that they themselves love to play! 2. Great community of dedicated players, very helpful and inclusive of new player. Check out the discord and streamers (https://discord.gg/CVDFAv4 + GG_Bludex on twitch) 3. While the game is still new, it's ambition and potential by far supersedes other games in this genre, with world bosses, events, dungeons, guilds/clans (and clan warfare), PVP, limited loot items and fulfilling end game content planned. The Devs have already started delivering massive updates fleshing out skills, and introducing server wide events while also keeping up with bug fixes and QOL improvements -- making me excited for whats to come.
Overall Damascus is terrific, and you owe it to yourself to check it out.
I really enjoyed this game and would love to play it more. Most of the content is locked off behind a membership fee that resembles a subscription payment model. I'd love to play more and support this game if you allowed a single payment option. At the current version you pay $8 a month for the full version of this game.
Abandoned game, whenever the servers go down it takes days for them to bring them back up. I was going to keep playing this game even though there were going to be no new updates, however the devs can not even reset the servers fast when they go down. Cmon I paid for the membership and whenever the game goes down I lose 3-4 days of game time. Uninstalled sorry. If this game would be taken seriously by the devs I would have stayed forever.
devs left, game's dead
Very addictive leveling up and watching all the numbers go up similar to runescape. Should maybe have a founders package to buy into rather then bonds this early into the game's lifecycle. The movement is primitive as hell and based on these weird ingame ticks that feel like they don't get updated near as often as they should. Your player slides multiple tiles at a time in this weird stop and go fashion. Probably my least favorite aspect of the game is walking from place to place and how bad it is. The ingame world isn't that pleasing to look at and can be at times very confusing on whats a fence etc. Animations for attacks and for walking also need to be added before pvp is a thing. Still the game is a very good proof of concept minus all the flaws

It's pretty impressive that a team of two people managed to make a MMORPG, but this is just unoriginal. It's literally Runescape with pixel graphics. The skills are nearly the same as Runescape's, the way combat works is the same as OSRS and hell, there's even grand exchange and bonds. The game has potential to be something unique but for now.. It's just Pixel Runescape.
There is an endless amount of amazing things that can be said about Damascus. From the moment you begin, you're hooked. The easy to understand mechanics and lovely pixel art make for an enjoyable gaming experience. The community is so welcoming and very helpful. The developers are two amazing guys who listen to their people and interact with the players on a daily basis. This game is nowhere near complete and I can't wait to see it grow with time. 10/10 recommend this game
