D-Corp has everything to be a great couch coop game. It is very polished, has a fair amount of content and is quite challenging. But there's one thing I absolutely dislike. The game is very much focused on stunning enemies with the pickaxe and throwing them into pits/acid. While it would be a fun mechanic to use a couple of times in a level, most of the level's we've beaten required us to constantly do this. Towers are more support units rather than doing a majority of the damage. Additionally, most of the enemies attack the players and are very deadly. This allows only the foremost enemies to be stunned and thrown. But those are the enemies that have most likely already received tower damage, which is very frustrating, as the tower ammo is practically wasted if you throw the enemy in the pit anyway. If the game would allow to focus more on tower placement/management, I'd love it. I would also accept the emphasis on "fighting" if there'd be more variety in attacking the mobs directly (e.g. different weapons). But the constant cycle of stunning/throwing is no fun.
As I write this, I just came off streaming this with 3 friends for 4 hours over Steam Remote Play. I purposefully went into the game blind after being offered a press code because I wanted to experience it with my friends for the first time. From what I saw, it looked like tower defense, mixed with the insanity of Overcooked. This game has some very good bones but is unfortunately let down by some bafflingly bad control and UI design that could be fixed, but which holds me back recommending it. The levels in D-Corp look small and they are but that's because the frantic pace of the gameplay lends itself to that. Essentially, you are trying to gather resources while keeping enemies away from the thing you have to deliver them to. Once you've got enough resources, you complete the level. There are also challenges and secrets to unlock if you so desire, which give cosmetic upgrades, as well as a hard mode you can toggle per level at the start of the round. Your characters have a wrench they can swing, plus an ability to lift and throw things, mapped to only two buttons. These can be weapons, resources, even enemies and each other. Depending on the level, you'll get access to various types of turret weapons, which can be moved about at will and which you'll have to keep charged with ammo, usually obtained from a dispenser somewhere else in the level. To succeed, your team will have to coordinate and organize. You're going to want someone maintaining the turrets, someone going out to collect resources, someone holding enemies back etc. If you can't work together, you'll fail real fast. This concept sounds great but the frustrations kick in fast. For starters, while only having two buttons makes the game seem accessible, in reality it makes things maddening. You'll often try to pick something up like ammo for a turret, only to grab the turret instead, or perhaps another player you didn't want to. A required strategy in many maps is stunning enemies with your wrench, to either give your turrets time to deal with them or to pick them up and throw them into an environmental hazard. However, enemies often bunch up and you can only hit one at a time. They also kill you in one hit, taking you out of the fight for several seconds. If they hit a turret once, it loses all its ammo, forcing you to refill it. When you try to throw enemies into pits, they'll often land on an object by only a couple of pixels but it will still consider that a solid surface and once they recover, they bounce back to where you threw them from. You can have a round where things are going well, only to have it all go irrevocably sideways in an instant because of these machanical choices. There's no reason the gameplay needs to be this petty and cheap. The game could easily allow players (or at least turrets) to take multiple hits before dying and things would still be plenty challenging. With this design, things just feel frustrated. The longer my friends and I played, the more these design choices really aggravated us. Using more than two buttons could have easily got around some of this. This isn't helped by things like your "brain in a jar" commander unit, which is very verbose and has its dialogue window pop up on the bottom of the screen, often obscuring battles that are in progress. This is infuriating. There are plenty of other places on the screen where it could be located and cause less disruption. When in a large group of enemies, it's also often hard to tell what's going on, leading to needless deaths. On the plus side, D-Corp has a nice art style and the characters are endearing. It also runs fantastic and has miniscule load times. It worked great for us with me hosting over Steam Remote Play, though I do have fiber Internet so your mileage may vary on that one. The music is repetitve and pretty forgettable. There really is a cool and fun concept under all these issues. However, with all those in place, I can't recommend the game right now, it's just too frustrating. A lot of things like the UI issues could be fixed with patches, as could the control issues and I think adding a difficulty that makes the one-hit deaths less punishing would be a good idea as well. If these things could be tweaked, my friends and I all agreed we'd love to revisit and finish it.
I went into this game thinking it was a real tower defense game, but it ends up being basically like Overcooked. Instead of strategizing about tower types and placements with friends like you'd expect, it's mostly about multitasking between mining resources, whacking enemies, and platforming. The tower defense part mostly takes a back seat. While this is still fun in a very casual setting like Overcooked and I'd recommend it in that context, it's best to manage your expectations and go in expecting a party game first, tower defense game second.
The game is a top down tower defense but not the traditional tower defense since you are playing a character moving around on the field collecting resources yourself and picking up ammunition for when the turrets run out of bullets and you can hit the enemies to stun them temporarily, super fun and chaotic a times! Played it with a group of friends, and it's is super chaotic and hilarious at the same time, we laughed quite a lot while playing it and sabotaging ourselves by throwing each other out of the map or into a group of enemies! We settled into try-hard mode as well where each of us had a task with one keeping the turrets facing the right way and stocked up on ammo while others completed some of the special objectives and the last peeps harvested cactus to feed the grinder! The levels later on gets a bit more complicated and difficult but they were even more fun, and we had a rage quit because we threw the level right at the end by accidentally throwing our friend out of the map instead of the enemy that was right at the grinder! (We played via Steam Remote Play and talked via discord and it worked perfectly) Would deffo recommend if you are looking for some fun Co-op action!!
This game is way too frustrating and punishing, and there's no way to turn down the difficulty. The first two levels were dead simple, and the third level was suddenly impossible. It's a shame because this could be a really great game with a few minor tweaks. My gripes are mostly just focused on the third level. The mechanic of having to stun enemies and throw them into the pit gets annoying. Throwing enemies is clunky, and they often don't make it into the pit unless you take the time to aim. But you don't have time to aim because the enemies are tightly bunched together and the group stun from the tower only lasts about one second, so it's very likely that another enemy will one-hit you unless you grab and throw FAST. Because enemies kill you in a single hit, you can really only stun and grab the enemy at the front of the pack. This is also the only enemy that your turret shoots, so you're often throwing a damaged enemy into the pit, making your turret's attacks wasted. The most annoying thing is that enemies attacking your turret cause it to lose ALL OF ITS AMMO. There's just no reason for that. Make it lose some ammo for each hit, but not all of it. There's no dash mechanic, so going to get ammo to refill it gets more and more frustrating every time you have to slowly walk across the map to fetch ammo that will immediately be lost. Has the potential to be an amazing game, except for this very frustrating problem.
I made a let's play checking out the game with some friends! https://youtu.be/XZAJ8kat_TA
D-Corp is an incredibly underrated game that combines what you love about Tower Defense games with the chaotic co-op elements of games like Overcooked. I am definitely going to be checking the game out more in the future!

This game is a lot of fun for a group of friends, and playing online via Steam Remote Play Together is easier than anything! There's a lot of content already, and the developers keep adding levels frequently. While the difficulty curve can be a bit harsh at times, there is a big sense of achievement when you finally beat that one difficult level! Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a good couch co-op experience!
Fun small game - best played with friends! A few more level would be nice also some variation / choice with turrets could make the game even more entertaining. I had fun playing it alone but since I am not someone to hunt all achievements it didn't take me long to "finish" the game. At some points it wasn't immediatly clear how to complete a level - but for me that was part of the fun.
its a nice cozy game difficulty ramps up pretty quickly and i soon noticed that i need more ppl to play this otherwise its gonna get tough haha but its totally doable alone also!
