A rage game that I enjoyed as someone who doesn't enjoy rage games. I love that the game gives you optional checkpoints to create your own difficulty to an extent. The movement is legitimately good too and the music is better than it has any right to be. This isn't the "rage slop" game it might seem at first glance.
I like what this game has to offer. Its cute, its entertaining. Its your typical rage climbing game. Its heartwarming. The problem I have and why I dont recommend it is it constantly crashes. Every time i try to play the game it crashes every couple of minutes. And when it crashes it freezes up the whole PC with it. Its very cute and it looks like a fun game but it isnt worth fighting with trying to get it to run
I really enjoy the game. However, its very frustrating not being able to save half way through a level, I do not get a ton of time to sit down & play games. So have been stuck on the aquarium level as everytime i quit the game im made to restart the entire level over again.. I love the bed & nap system. Just wish i would be able to start back on my most recent bed, rather than whatever cat cafe i passed last..
This game is one of the few rage games that you can approach as a regularly skilled gamer, like me. The check point system is really clever and allows you to set a limited amount of check points, better still , you are rewarded for using less checkpoints, so it’s good for the proper rage game specialists . . It also has a really good length to it, there are a bunch of fun areas, the music level is my favourite . . The only flaw I would say is that the save system was a little odd in that there was no auto save, so it literally only saves if you run into the save symbols floppy disc . Keep up the awesome work, will go for another playthrough soon
I found this game from a GrandPooBear video (fun fact, guess what Bo-Porae is an anagram of) and since I played Getting Over It as a quick comfort game and always liked games where you control a cat, I immediately got the game. And I gotta say the game impressed me. Positives: -Great movement, feels good to control and various options -Great level design, well designed around the movement, most obstacles are reasonable and usually you have multiple options to try, only rarely I felt lost -Beds and lives are an amazing risk-reward system -Fun and varied extra challenges -Kitties Negatives: -Spinning platforms are a bit janky, pretty noticeable in the spinning #s in the Amphitheater and the spinning platforms in the final level -In some places you can easily clip inside of walls and get stuck, I've noticed it most in the spinning rocks in the Aquarium. But the most jarring is the part right below the first cafe, where you can get stuck inside by trying to wallrun and it's right at the end of the no-jumping challenge forcing you to restart it -Camera is a little janky in places, most noticeable in the long wall-running sections in the final level -Controls not being customizable, my thumbs hate games where you have to press the stick to run Overall, an amazing climbing game, don't let the "Only Up clone" stigma fool you, this game is no slop
Cat go up, cat go down. Cat cat cat
I love the gameplay. The music is incredible. Some of the levels were very hard to navigate, with the Amphitheater being the worst. It wears a rage game coat of paint, but its a platformer at heart. I like how the checkpoint system is handled. You place a cat bed down when you're on stable ground and can nap to return to it. After 9 lives, you are instead sent to the vet. If you clear the vet level, you get unlimited naps until you clear the section. On the more frustrating and hard to navigate levels, you'll really appreciate the unlimited lives. Its like starting with a powerup or Yoshi on a hard Mario level. If you're not that great at the game or have limited time, they're perfect for easing the difficulty. They let you experiment or make mistakes until you surmount your obstacle. I used 2 vet trips to clear the game; on the Pirate section and the Amphitheater. Using these unlimited lives lock you out of the good ending, and I can't remember if it warns you about it before you reach the end. You spend the whole game finding your memories and being told how much your owner loves you regardless of your vet trips. You are encouraged to not give up; to do anything to make it home. Your perseverance is not rewarded because you took a helping hand along the way. Its like Mario finding out the Princess is dumping him because he rode Yoshi along the way. They included a way for anybody to be able to tackle the game, then punished them in the end. It's a bad note in an otherwise beautiful symphony. There's apparently an even worse ending if you take 3 or more vet trips. I have no idea what it is or how it could be worse than my ending. I did enjoy the bonus area with double jump. If I had to sit and think on my ending, I probably would have not recommended the game. Getting a taste of being overpowered at the end tipped me back onto the positive side of things. Its like a fantastic dessert after your favorite meal wasn't cooked right. It washed the bad taste away before a long drive home. Beans is the best cat.
I haven't played a rage game before, but I'm really enjoying this. EDIT: I've rolled credits now, and this game is actually so much better than I expected it to be. I've started trying out the challenges and they are very well designed.
I can't think of another game that I wanted to play MORE after finishing. I've been completing challenges and plotting routes for speedruns. Probably voting this my GotY 100% unironically.
