Short but very beautiful and enjoyable. Gameplay consists of puzzles, each of which begins straightforward and ramps up to make you think harder by the end. The platforming aspect is easy and it's a relaxing game to play. Give it a go! Thank you to the developers for making this available free.

"Crystal Cave" is not to be confused with the Commodore 64 game "Crystal Caverns" or the iD Software/Apogee DOS title "Crystal Caves", instead, it's a short tech demo with some nice (yet obsolete 2D) graphics. This is a short platformer where you'll play three minigames (basic stuff like a ripoff of Pipe Dreams) and that's it. It's over before you knew it. So this looks like an old 1990's Adobe Flash game that you might play in a web browser, and the problem there is obviously Steam wasn't intended to try compete with Chrome and Firefox. If it can be done in a web browser, it's not even close to a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That's a problem. The game is quite short, and can be run through in just a few minutes. The lack of content here makes it hard to suggest it's worth spending the time to add to your library and download. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. 3D graphics cards hit the mainstream in the mid 1990s. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? What's the verdict? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
