Alright. Cryohazard is done and dusted. This was a pretty fun node-based and turn-based roguelike where you play as a guy who found himself alone in the world after what amounts to a Rapture event. However, something did remain, the Soul Storm, and it is still rampaging across the world. You see it heading your way and realize there is no way you can outrun it. Fortunately, you prepared for this eventuality by building a four-train (although they are presented as cars) caravan which you will use to get to the eye of the storm and figure out the mystery of the storm. Throughout your journey, various demons (angels lol) will attempt to destroy you and your caravan. Gameplay is pretty simple. You begin with your locomotive and three other vehicles. The three other trains can be placed in any order you like. Your locomotive can only brake or accelerate, which will push enemies forward or backward along your caravan. Your other cars can attack enemies above them, although you can also find abilities that allow you to attack enemies above other cars. Each turn, an enemy or enemies fly in and pick the car they will begin above. You will then try to destroy said enemies by adjusting their positions and attacking them. After that, you will access the map and pick the next node. At which point, it's the enemy turn again. Any surviving enemies will move forward one car and attack, with the goal of reaching and destroying the locomotive. The locomotive being destroyed is game over. On the map, the various nodes have coordinates listed, and are many nodes on each map have something special about them. Some have effects that can hurt or hinder your enemies or both you and your enemies. Other nodes might repair damaged cars (except the locomotive which can't be repaired), increase the health of one of your combat cars, offer a new ability to be assigned to one of your combat cars, present a special enemy that if defeated drops both extra health and an extra ability; there is also a special node on each map that will contain a secret regarding the Soul Storm. The final node is basically a rest stop where your combat cars are repaired and you move on to the next map. After completing three maps, you've reached the end of the game and those secrets you found are translated for you. You will then start the game over. If you complete the game a second time utilizing the aforementioned knowledge, you will unlock the true ending. And that is the game in a nutshell. It is possible to play the entire game without losing any trains and also without taking any damage whatsoever by assigning your specific cars to specific caravan slots and using a specific set of abilities each round. The no damage runs are possible if you find the ability that allows you to damage opponents and move them one car to the right, but even with the base abilities, it is actually super easy to have no loss runs. It took me about five runs before I figured out the proper arrangement, but it's foolproof. And while I did think it was kind of funny just how easy it was to figure out that system, the game was still fun despite that, and the true ending was both enigmatic and cool. I did experience a bug at the end of my first completed run where it translated everything, but then the screen froze. Upon restarting, it didn't show the translations any longer. However, I'd written them down and it turns out I was still able to visit the necessary locations and get the true ending despite that. Additionally, it is not currently possible to take screenshots using Steam's default F12. It would be good to get that sorted out, but for the purposes of this review, I have no screenshots to show as a result. Beyond that, it functioned perfectly for me. I used k/m throughout, and I'm not sure you'd really want to use a gamepad for this one. All told, it took me just under two hours to perfect a means of playing without losing any cars/taking damage while also completing the game twice and seeing the true ending. I think the $4.99 price tag is ideal for this game. While I don't think there is any further replay value, you will get at least two full runs and about two hours of playtime, give or take depending on your comfort level and experience with this type of game. And I think there is the potential to see an expansion or sequel. I enjoyed Cryohazard, and I think it is definitely worth a look if you enjoy turn-based roguelikes utilizing a node system.
While the game has some flaws, I absolutely recommend the game. The team responded quickly to bug/exploit reports, and after a few bugfixes, the game is a perfect compact roguelite. The difficulty is just right, and the game is quite balanced after the last bugfix. I will say the one downside to it is that the game is a little short. Each successful run has only been about 40 minutes MAX in my experience, unlike the "30-60" they claim on their Store Page. It really bums me out that there isn't a lot of replayability value to this game, even though it's a roguelite. The only reason a player would want to replay the game is to get the True Ending, and things don't really change enough between runs, which sometimes feels like a slog to play through again. With that being said, I did have a lot of fun with this game, and I think it's a pretty fair price point for an enjoyable 2-3 hours of gameplay. P.S. Huge props to Ravenhood on the Discord, they're the MVP for knocking out the bugs/exploits I reported REALLY quickly!

Listen to me into the churn There will be no pretty words to swallow This is a test, it's not a war Watch as we weather the storm together Из композиции Caligula's Horse – The Stormchaser [можно включить на фон композицию "Storm" из альбома Godspeed You! I mean, it was dirt cheap, the pixel art is lovely, and the soundtrack is nice. I don't even wanna refund it despite having the opportunity and today likely being the last time I'll ever launch this thing. I suppose I don't regret the purchase. Be advised, however, that the 1.8 hours you see in my playtime tab are all there is to it. That's the entire roguelite. And I could have shaved off half an hour easily if I learned sooner how the storm mechanic works. There are no unlockable main convoy vehicles, no other carts, and only a handful of active skills all of which I've learned of in a span of 2 runs. I got what I presume is the true ending and so this seems to be all the content the game has. Feels like a waste of potential for a good strategic game with all sorts of combos and synergies and tactics, but I suppose you also can't put all your eggs into one basket and toil away on an experimental little game that will be played by three and a half people. Definitely buy on sale if you're concerned with the bang for the buck.
Absolutely blew me away! This game is simple yet very complicated. Watching all your abilities mesh perfectly to take down that one enemy thats been worrying you is also a very satisfying feeling. The music is an absolute bop, the pixel graphics are cute yet slightly unnerving. You can tell that every little detail has so much thought put into it. Amazing game 9/10 because I had a bug where my ability glitched while an enemy moved and i basically lost a turn on one of my cars.
As much as i really love the idea- as it stands it's kind of bland. Don't get me wrong, i assume its going to get better, its only like a couple of months old after all. The strategy aspect of the game and the enemies are nice, but i feel it's lacking in actual skill it takes to beat the game, and it's almost all about luck. The car abilities are good and you can combo them together nicely too- but that's the only way to beat the enemies, as most of it is just copy paste attacking, and that's about all you can do. Had some fun playing it the first round over, ended up getting all the echo's or whatever they were first genuine run, and got the end and it told me to bring them there again...? Idk, but it's got a lot of potential! Good luck with the project!
A nice quick little roguelike ideal for small runs set in an interesting world.
I recommend this game! 1 - You can feel the atmosphere of the post-apocalypse - exciting sensations. 2 - Interesting setting - really cool - a column of cars trying to escape. 3 - Interesting mechanics. Developers, thanks for the game. I'll be following you from now on!
