Bereits während der DevCom 2020 hatte ich durch einen Zufall einen ersten Blick auf Critical Zone werfen können. Michael Blatz, der Kopf hinter It Moves Studio hatte mir das Spiel schmackhaft gemacht. Ein Party Spiel, welches schnell zu lernen ist und eine Menge Spaß bereiten soll. Damals hieß es noch, lediglich lokaler Koop wird unterstützt, zum Release die Überraschung, es funktioniert auch mit Steam Remote Play. Gerade in der aktuellen Situation mit Social Distancing und Kontaktverboten eine gute Idee dieses Feature zu integrieren, Wenn ein Planet zu klein ist Wie soll man Critical Zone am besten beschreiben? Stellt euch Smash Brothers vor, in 2-D, minimalistische Fähigkeiten und sehr kurze Spielrunden. Das dürfte Critical Zone schon sehr gut beschreiben. Man wählt aus einer Vielzahl an berühmten Persönlichkeiten und versucht sich gegenseitig vom Planeten zu schubsen. Die Steuerung ist ebenso simpel wie das Spielprinzip. Wer zuletzt noch auf dem Planeten ist, gewinnt die Runde. Wer am Ende die meisten Runden geholt hat, ist der Sieger. Steuerungstechnisch gibt es nur Sprung und den Dash zu verinnerlichen, simpel aber effektiv. critical zone Mit einem Dash kann man den Gegner vom Planeten schubsen oder in ausknocken. Mit einem Sprung kann man ausweichen. Klingt einfacher als es ist, den der Planet dreht sich und es gibt verschiedene Schwerkräfte, je nachdem auf welchem Planeten man spielt. Das Design der Charaktere ist sehr minimalistisch gehalten, jedoch lässt sich fast immer erkennen um welchen Charakter es sich handelt. Trump, Merkel oder Kim Jong-un um nur ein paar Beispiele zu nennen. Klassisch an die macht Ein absolutes Highlight in Critical Zone ist der Soundtrack. Begleitet werden die kurzen Spielrunden von bekannten klassischen Musikstücken, irgendwie passt dies perfekt. Das ganze wirkt schon ein wenig Slapstick-mäßig wie ein ♥♥♥♥ und Doof Film. Eine KI besitzt das Spiel nicht, also müsst ihr immer ein paar Freunde zum Spielen an der Hand haben, wahlweise drei Stück, damit ihr den vollen vier Spieler Wahnsinn erleben könnt. Vorzugsweise natürlich zusammen vor Ort auf der Couch, damit man sich gegenseitig noch ein wenig in die Tasten greifen kann. Solltet ihr nicht die Möglichkeit haben, vor Ort spielen zu können, kein Problem, dank Steam Remote Play könnt ihr auch bequem von überall mit euren Freunden spielen. Daumen hoch dafür. Was soll ich sagen, minimalistisch, spaßig und süchtig machend. Der Preis für dieses simple Party Spiel ist ebenso ein ausschlaggebender Punkt, warum es jeder in seiner Bibliothek haben sollte, um mit seinen Freunden ein paar spaßige Runden zusammen spielen zu können.

This game is right for you if you either want to fight your friends to the death or want to cooperate with them skillfully in a few quick rounds! I was only playing the game with one other person but can imagine that the competitive way of playing is more fun with more people. But even with just 2 people, a lot of chaotic game play was involved and we had both extreme fun to kick each other of the planets, watch each either die out of our own stupidity or to take revenge. After we looked at the achievements we had a lot of fun trying to coordinating our movements to unlock them (which takes quite a lot of fun) and it felt a little like Overcooked where you blame each other for failing. Overall the game is quite nicely polished and perfect for a quick battle or skill-based cooperation. Different planets, some of which need to be unlocked, feature different challenges and diversify the game play (for example, the moon lets you jump higher, while some other planet freezes you etc.). The mode in which a random planet was chosen each round was the most fun! Aside from an overview of controls there is no tutorial which can be confusing at time but for me it was also fun to figure the gameplay out on the spot discovering new moves like squashing my enemies (friends) with the dash. Kind of same goes for figuring out which leader of the world you are currently looking at. Overall I'd consider this game perfect for the round of quick battles an evening of playing party game.

Super fun party game. I play with my wife and daughter and we all love it. I definitely recommend it for local multiplayer.

Dispite its simplicity is the game a lot of fun and stays fun for a long time. The Map ideas are great and the character design is just gorgeous. The tiny details about the character just give the game so much life and you can tell that the creators put a lot of effort in it. I can recommend this game for everyone who loves to play with and against friends.
