Boring, voice acting is bad, story is mediocre, enemies don't offer any interesting tactics - they're either rushing at you or spit some ♥♥♥♥ at you. And, as a cherry on top there are bugs - I got gamebraking bug at the beginning of lab level with invisible wall that prevents me from moving forward. And, because the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ developer decided to not implement save/load system I can't load earlier save (there is only 1 save that is being constantly rewritten). And of course I can't refund this garbage because this bug conveniently happened after 2 hours.
I can't tell you how angry I am right now I loaded up the game six times thinking it was just bugged I quit the game got back on it still my ammo my guns all my key items is just completely gone
For an indie title, I need to give the developers props for making essentially a 2D Resident Evil style game. While the character animation isn't perfect, the graphics and visual style help convey a sense of primordial dread that will get under your skin. It took a bit to get used to, but the aiming controls are implemented very well and are precise. Moving around feels like a dream, especially when using the long jump to bound over enemies. Though I haven't gotten far into the main campaign yet, the difficulty feels fair. Some trail and error scenarios, but they're not much of a hassle thanks to the auto save feature. If anyone is looking for something to fill the void that Dino Crisis has left, this is a good choice. Kudos
So I'll start off with this, the game is worth the money, and I paid the original price and am cool with it. This game is a mix of metroid and dino crisis 2. It is a wonderful side scroller that might not seem like a horror game at first but wait til you hit the later levels, all that ammo will be needed. I have put many hours in and will do even more as I have yet to beat the game. It has it's challenges but the game gives you enough supplies to make it through, unless of course you waste it then good luck. The story is intriguing and I am looking forward to seeing the endgame, the creatures are the best part though. The art style and designs of the creatures is awesome, seriously I don't know how they came up with some of the beasts that you encounter while one or two look to be inspired from the old Jurassic Park Chaos Effect toy line. The guns are great, especially once you upgrade them. And contrary to how the game looks it is semi open world, once you get the needed items you be able to backtrack for some additional rewards, treasures, and in one case I found a mini-boss fight. The creators are also nice, they are listening to the players and updating the game to be better and free of bugs as it continues. I can't wait to see what could be next from this publisher and if you like side scrollers, dinosaurs/monsters, or just looking for something similar to the 80's action horror movies this could be the game for you. Edit: I've beaten the game and while there were some bugs the game was solid. It's got its charm and if you're a fan of the og resident evil games I think you'll like it. I'll probably start a new playthrough testing different guns but this was worth the money, all it needs is some more polish.
After putting nearly 50 hours into this game, it is now finally time to review this amazing thrill ride of a game. Starting off, I really love the hand-drawn art style of the game in both the environments and enemies, evokes a feel of 2D-era nostalgia from the games of my childhood. This game wears it's RE4, Dino Crisis 2 and Lost World JP PS1 influences with pride and the use of environmental storytelling in the notes and audio logs helps to paint a wide story canvass. The gameplay is tight and slick, though there is always room to make things more smooth and dynamic with future updates and if a sequel gets greenlit. The sheer variety of weapons allows for a variety of play styles and upgrades can make even a seemingly low par weapon even more effective. For a future QOL addition for weapons, adding a unique/exclusive perk when the weapon is topped off could really enable some specialization in them ala RE4. The enemies also were a treat to both fight and looked cool too. The mix of conventional dinosaurs with hybrid beasties that could've been been plucked from an RE game provided strategy elements on which weapons worked best on them. Design-wise for the dinosaurs I know they are not up to date terms of anatomical/scientific accuracy but they do work as homages to the Dino Crisis games, would be cool to see more updated dinosaur designs in the sequel and even more wacky new mutants etc.. I also must personally give props to Tim the lead developer of the game for being so patient with all my questions/bug reporting I had on the game along. Responding to feedback with fairly regular bug fix patches can't be appreciated enough, some of those I reported in their Discord. In closing, this game really does tick off all the boxes for me as a lover of dinosaur games, and providing a different style to more modern 3rd person or 1st person dino shooters with the Metroidvania style blended with RE4 upgrade system. With future updates to add in New Game Plus, expanded inventory upgrades, and more I can see this game becoming even more fun and fair for new players. Here is to seeing a Creatures of War 2 game greenlit as I see much potential in this game as a series given the narrative. https://www.twitch.tv/daikaijufanboy I streamed the game here on my Twitch channel and will likely do a new run on the game once a few patches or two come in to fix the treasure spawns etc..
First 20 Minutes Gameplay Here So, first things first: You’ll need 4 shots from your pistol to kill the first dinosaurs until you get some upgrades. Also, take in account that the re-loading gun animation can get hindered if you run or anything comes in between. So, time your re-loading! The Story: You are a "one-man army" on a mission to find the president's son, who just happened to wander onto the one island he definitely shouldn’t have been on in the first place, along with some tourists, and gets lost! (Duh!) As for the game itself, I wouldn’t exactly call it "horror" in the traditional sense. Yes, there are some "gory" parts and some jump scares, but horror? Not quite. On the other hand, it’s a full-blown action arcade game that reminded me of the good old days. You get the gun and start blasting your way through. The animations—or rather, some of the "stiff, joints-not-moving" animations—didn’t bother me at all. I've played enough indie games to not see these as issues, since they don’t hinder anything and even add a bit of "niche" style to the game. Considering the general scenery and visuals, which are awesome by the way, the graphics are quite well done! As for the gameplay, I wouldn’t say "not responsive", but jumping was a bit of a pain in the a** for me. I accidentally jumped through the ladder hole a couple of times when trying to cross a railing! So, beware! Also, when using the shotgun and you don’t want to waste ammo trying to shoot down coins scattered around and switch to your pistol... Just wait for the first animation to finish, aim, and then shoot— or you’ll waste ammo. The game does get a bit repetitive after a while, but not in a bad way. There are still big dinosaurs to hunt, and you’ll need to get used to not always selling "everything" you find. Sometimes, it’s better to store items to combine them and do what you’re supposed to do with them. Overall, it’s a great time-killer where you can log in, play for a few minutes, leave, and then pick up exactly where you left off (from the train, I mean) without having to remember much—just jump back in and play! I mean a game with more than 10hrs of gametime, which is also an Indie game, for this price? I wouldn't miss it! So, to sum it up. A great game for a great price! Thumbs up!
Not my usual genre of game that I play, but I had a blast so far with this one! Animations are beautiful and pleasing to the eye and the way the story is delivered in an old sci-fi action style is absolutely hilarious. I played with controller and the game ran smoothly with no issues. I do however, need to point out that the tutorial did not let the player know that you need to hold down the run and jump button at the same time in order to long jump. (Took me a goodly amount of time to figure that one out lol.) The addition of audio files and notes really brings the story to life and I really enjoyed hunting for all the treasure. Dinosaurs are gorgeous, but terrifying, and got me to jump out of my seat several times. There is a light amount of puzzling to do in game, but nothing too strenuous. Overall, great job and I can't wait to play more!
A mixture of Salt and Sanctuary and Dino Crisis, for a lack of better comparison. A metroidvania, with survival horror and pre historical creatures to run away from, the game seems like a very cool idea on paper, and it is quite cool to see, although, the movement animations did bothered me a bit and I couldn't quite figured if the voice acting was purposely bad, as a nod to RE1 and Dino Crisis or if it was meant to be serious. A recommendation from me only because we need new Dino Crisis games. If you want to check it for yourself, press the link below: https://youtu.be/WRNBQ0789CE
