Might be personal taste, but the core puzzle mechanic just infuriated me. It wasn't intuitive at all, and even once I solved a puzzle and understood the goal, the game still felt completely obtuse. It seemed like I was waiting for the game to solve enough letters for me to have a crack at the word, rather than me actually deducing much.

⭐⭐⭐
"cr4ckr" is a very simple, minimalistic word puzzle game that might as well have been done in a web browser. The objective is to guess a sequence of passwords in a sort of hangmanesque letter and word game... it's not all that much more exciting than playing hangman. And seriously, Steam is not here to compete with Firefox and Chrome. This game features very lacklustre minimalist "art" and amostly text interface instead of anything remotely contemporary. We don't buy ridiculously expensive gaming rigs just to play browser games (well, mostly). Visually this presents terribly. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3628589208 I truly think this game is a misunderstood puzzle gem. At first, I too thought it was about associating words and knowing common English expressions. Well - in some sense, yes. Native English speakers will probably have an easier time playing the game the “normal” way. Nonetheless, playing it that way can be quite painful (just read the reviews). The quick-to-catch-the-meta players will likely figure out that the
fast cooldown
upgrade lets you reach the ending in no time if you spam it. But those who notice that 2 out of 9 achievements aren’t unlocked even after finishing the game, despite seemingly meeting the conditions described on the Steam page, might get confused or curious. If you fall into that second group, I assure you: you’re not done with the game yet. If you’re feeling stuck, I invite you to check out my helper guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3481134266 -- I definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys unusual puzzles with a “Hacking” tag. P.S.: I'm still not sure whether the Bitburner OST is meant to be an easter egg :) ⠀
I'm currently doing a challenge to play through a free game in every single category on steam. I then give an honest review using ChatGPT.
Game: 41 / 447 Category: Hacking "Not a Hacking Game, Just a Confusing Word Puzzle" This game advertises itself as a hacking simulator, but it’s really just a word association game with a thin hacking theme slapped on. The premise is guessing passwords, but the associations between words are often nonsensical, making the gameplay feel more like random guessing than actual problem-solving. It’s boring, repetitive, and doesn’t make much sense most of the time. If the game leaned into being a straightforward word puzzle instead of pretending to be about hacking, it might have been more enjoyable. As it stands, it’s trying to be something it’s not and failing at both. If you’re looking for a real hacking experience or a satisfying word game, this isn’t it. Skip this one.
I didn’t enjoy this game, I usually love puzzle and word games, but this one just was not fun at all. Sometimes the answers to the puzzles made sense and then most times when the words got revealed, I could see the connection, but it wasn’t enough for me to feel like it made sense or that a logical person would have been able to guess the answer without letters being revealed. With how little art is in the game, it’s disappointing that the developer used AI to make the art.

A cool lightweight game. Pretty fun to pass the time would recommend playing.
