Short thief simulator with 4 achievements for idling each map for 1 minute.
Cool Thief Guy is walking simulator. The player tries to steal money and jewels without being caught. Security cameras are one hazard. Hacking security boxes is another element. Every level there is also yellow mark it tells level end and after you reach it it show how much you have stolen stuff and what is your stolen rating. Also earn steam achievements by playing enough long levels. Dell 3480 with Arc Xe graphics and RTX A500 discrete graphics. Game is very playable.
Daylight robbery. Story: While the game is single player focused, there's no story whatsoever, we'll go straight to the graphics. Graphics: Taking one glance at the store page of Cool Thief Guy will tell you that it's just an asset flip. There's four maps and they're all so random and disconnected from one another. There's like a random hallway with a couple beds and shelfs in it, a house, a warehouse and some kind of sci fi room and you can easily tell that it's just map packs. Also it has some of the worst lighting I have seen in any game, ever. In the first map, the area where you exit is shrouded in darkness, you can't see where you need to go and to just put the cherry on top is that you need to lockpick a door and you can't even see what you're doing which is just fantastic. Audio: Just like the graphics, there's really nothing special here. Everything is absurdly loud bordering on blowing your ear drums out and it's so obnoxious. There's also some stock free music, but not much of it. There's really not much to say here. Gameplay: Cool Thief Guy is mostly a stealth robbery simulator. You load into a map and just have to collect money and then leave. Now I love myself a good thieving game, however what I got here is nothing than more than just infuriation simulator. The basic gist is this. You spawn in a map, you steal money and trinkets and then leave and that's about it. What sounds simple on the surface is nothing more than just a thin veiled attempt at an easy achievement type game, as the goal of stealing things is meaningless. Each map only a small amount of things to interact with. There's a safe in each one with a really terrible unlocking mini game and even that sometimes doesn't work. You get a set of numbers and then you have to unlock it, but there's a problem as the safe is on a timer so if you don't input the right numbers or run out of time it resets, but it can give you numbers so spread apart that you will never be able to open it without reseting the entire map. The game also doesn't explain anything to you, there's no tutorial, no controls no nothing. Which means the only mechanic worth anything is never explained and that's the lockpicking. it's very simple, as you find the right position for the lockpick and twist to open a locked door and that's all there is to it, however it took forever to figure out how to actually do anything with it. There's also barely functional stealth. Sometimes when guards spot you, the game keeps going and sometimes you just get an instant game over. Sometimes the radius of the cameras is a lot bigger than it seems to be and they can spot you no problem, sometimes they do nothing. The game is just barely functional with a ton of bugs that just make the entire experience baffling. Like the before mentioned lighting which the game impossible to see. Also everytime you finish a level you have to quit the game and reset to play the other levels, as the button to go back to the main menu does not work. Verdict: Cool Thief Guy is terrible as a game, great if you want nothing more than absurdly easy achievements for that 100%. It's barely functional and you can blast through the entire game in around 5 minutes if you know what you're doing as the main goal of stealing is entirely optional. With everything I've seen buying this is the actual robbery. Final Rating: 1/10 Pros: N/A Cons: - Generic asset flip - Tons of bugs that make this game barely functional - The only game mechanic worth anything is exiting a level - None of the other game mechanics are explained to you - Some of the worst lighting I've seen NOTE: I was provided a review key from the developer/publisher for review purposes on the behalf of the group Completing the Backlog. This did not impact my opinion on the game. The first thing you'll notice is the horrendous motion blur that you can't disable - the only options that exist are four different screen resolutions. Terrible lighting, glitching textures, basic/default animations, broken AI, no pause menu, no tutorial... the list could go on and on. There are only two actions you perform in this "game": pick a lock similar to Skyrim but without any of the satisfaction, or half-functional safe cracking. Get to the end of the level and you'll have to exit and restart the game since the "close" button is broken. At the end of the day this is simply low effort shovelware put out by an unreputable "developer" - avoid.
Asset flip and AI slop.
Cool Thief Guy, developed by Manturo Studios and published by Valkeala Software, presents itself as a compact first-person stealth experience that strips the genre down to its most approachable elements. Rather than aiming for the layered complexity seen in larger stealth franchises, the game focuses on a simple premise: enter confined environments, avoid detection, and steal as many valuables as possible before making a clean escape. This straightforward loop immediately defines the experience, giving it a pick-up-and-play quality that makes it easy to jump into without much preparation or learning curve. The gameplay revolves around familiar stealth tropes—sneaking past guards, avoiding cameras, and interacting with objects like safes or locked doors—but it intentionally keeps these mechanics uncomplicated. Lockpicking and code-breaking are quick, often relying on minimal input rather than skill-heavy mini-games, and the challenge lies more in timing and observation than precision. This design choice works well for accessibility, especially for players who prefer a relaxed stealth experience, but it also reveals the game’s limitations over longer sessions. Once the player understands the basic patterns of enemy movement and environmental hazards, the sense of discovery begins to fade, leaving behind a loop that can feel repetitive despite its initial charm. Level design follows a similarly restrained philosophy. Each area is compact and easy to read, with clear objectives and a layout that rarely confuses or overwhelms. The emphasis is on efficiency—how quickly and thoroughly you can clear a space—rather than exploration or emergent gameplay. Guards and cameras add tension, but they rarely create unpredictable scenarios, which means success often comes down to memorization and cautious movement rather than improvisation. While this makes the game approachable, it also prevents it from reaching the kind of dynamic depth that defines more robust stealth titles. Visually, the game adopts a utilitarian style that gets the job done without standing out. Environments are functional and readable, but they lack the detail and atmosphere that might otherwise elevate immersion. Character animations and environmental assets are serviceable, though clearly reflective of a modest production scope. The overall presentation suggests a project focused more on delivering a playable concept than crafting a visually rich world, and while this may not bother players who prioritize mechanics, it does limit the game’s ability to leave a lasting aesthetic impression. One of the more engaging elements is the scoring system, which evaluates performance based on the amount of loot collected and the efficiency of each run. This introduces a layer of replayability, encouraging players to revisit levels and refine their approach. Instead of relying on narrative progression or evolving mechanics, the game leans on this score-chasing aspect to maintain interest. It’s a sensible approach given the game’s scale, though it ultimately caters more to completionists than to players looking for a steadily expanding experience. In the end, Cool Thief Guy feels like a focused, small-scale interpretation of stealth gameplay—one that prioritizes simplicity and accessibility over depth and innovation. It succeeds in offering short, digestible sessions that can be enjoyable in bursts, particularly for players who appreciate low-stakes stealth challenges. However, its limited variety and lack of mechanical evolution hold it back from achieving lasting engagement. It’s a modest but functional entry in the indie stealth space, best approached with tempered expectations and an appreciation for its straightforward design. Rating: 6/10
Short thief simulator. Easy Achievements / 4min.
This asset-flipped game's settings are limited to resolution settings only. Sometimes, Map 1 crashes my game to a "Fatal error" message, and also has the worst lighting and tons of bugs.
