Concept 20 is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one features minimalist/line "art" and has a number of different game modes, starting out with a marble physics/platformer component, sometimes you control a block, other times you also have a bar that you can move around (your very own platform!). These gimmicks don't go far due to the woefully deficient technical implementation of the game.
The game features extremely lazy, minimalist "art", of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games, or primitive games from the 1980's/1990's. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing.
While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic low quality vector art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the mediocre 2D visuals.
Controls are also locked and can't be changed, inconveniencing most gamers and possibly rendering the game unplayable for others.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game all-time peak player count was only ONE player. That's right, only one person ever played this at a time. When I played this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak player count for the game. OUCH. The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is to be expected. Gamers just didn't take this low quality game seriously, and for good reason.
Concept 20 is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
