First run Video: https://youtu.be/rPTXJ1FM3ws Final Boss and Last Level: https://youtu.be/vtjkUuE5y0E My original review is down below after the lines. I just finished playing Commander Tiberius Troubleson, and you know what? It's a 10/10. Absolutely the best game I've played this year, and I'm expecting this is going to be a stand-out title for me in 2025. Heck, this is a game I'm going to remember for a long time. I just finished it, and I'll probably start playing it again tomorrow. Maybe even today. It's one of those games that sucks you in with it's complete awesomeness, and it's so very hard to put down. I'd like to start off by saying the developer is one of the most devoted developers I've seen. Quick to fix bugs, friendly when addressing feedback, and has made one of the most rewarding titles in years. It's truly a labor of love, and there are so many cool secrets and things to find in the game. Combat is, still after almost 10 hours, as fun as can be. Utilizing spells, dashes, your gun, and a repel ability makes for some awesome fights. The array of spells gives you a huge amount of replay value, and some very cool "builds," of sorts. Heck you can even play it mostly without spells if you want. That's kind of how I play. I horde spells until the later levels, and still use them sparingly. Boss battles? Drop a decoy down and a few summons - and fight from afar. Or, maybe use some freezing spells to slow them down and let loose a blaze of bullets. Perhaps you like death from above, and use spells that send down a blaze of light that does lots of damage. The point is, there's a ton of spells which equals a ton of ways to play. The levels are designed by hand, and there are multiple iterations. So one run you might hit bosses on some of them. Other runs you might not. It makes the replay value awesome. Graphically the game has some of the most beautiful backgrounds I've seen in a 2D platformer in a long time. It feels visually unique, with backdrops that give you a glimpse of a sprawling world that exists beyond your adventures. The Soundtrack is also probably one of the best in years. One of my favorites for sure. Overall, I absolutely love this game. It's fantastic, and I highly recommend it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review: I've put a few hours into the demo, so I went into this thinking I was going to waffle stomp my way through everything and woo boy did I get my butt handed to me at first. But, as in traditional roguelikes you'll start making some pretty decent permanent upgrades that will help you out in further runs. You'll also start to develop some fun strategies and favorite spell combos to make some truly chaotic yet awesome moments. Graphics are great, with a ton of detail put into the levels and their backgrounds. The game's locations feel like a place I'd like to visit if I could, even if there are space bears patiently waiting to rip my face off. It'd be worth it. How often do you get to see something so dang cool? The music is also exceptional. With a mix of high-impact music to get your blood pumping, and some more chill music that lulls you into this sense of false security. And I friggin love it. But, great graphics and beautiful music aren't all the game has. It also has amazingly solid gameplay. Fast paced action with a bit of strategy. And friggin space magic man, SPACE MAGIC. Summon ghosts, turrets, bears... Use lightning and fireballs. Set up a stationary ball thing that shoots enemies. Freeze things. BLOW THINGS UP. It's just 100% awesome. I'm not done playing yet, but I can say this has been on my most anticipated list for quite some time. The beginning of the year has been rough, PTSD's been kicking my butt. But I've had Commander Tiberius Troubleson on my mind, waiting to jump into it and just let my mind relax and have fun. It's not often I get to remember the days I was really, truly happy. But today I can say I get to feel that way. Commander Tiberius Troubleson is so far everything I had hoped it would be, and it's absolutely a 10/10 game for me.
Risk of Rain 1 but with meta progression (permanent upgrades that persist between runs), if that's your thing.
Rough love. I constantly feel op and then I die. This is an unforgiving game, full of adrenaline but every now and then there are some quiet moments of exploration. My honest review. But I might be biased.
Excellent game! I love the noticeable differences in each level, not only in the environment but also in the NPCs and the labyrinths. The smoothness is delightful, and the comfort of both joystick and keyboard shows great attention to detail in the development of the game. While the platform genre isn't my favorite, this game combines so many elements that it stands far above any other platformer. Adrenaline-packed. And a key point—the music! The soundtrack is outstanding, creating an incredibly immersive experience. Highly recommended!
If you're into roguelikes, this game will blow your mind. Every level is a constant challenge, and the music adds an epic vibe to the battles. The spells are great overall, but the epic ones? Absolutely insane. You feel ridiculously powerful—until some enemy comes along to humble you and remind you you're just a mere human. The care and attention to detail in the animations and level design are undeniable. Plus, the levels evolve as you replay them, which was a great surprise, and there are tons of hidden secrets to uncover. I’m pretty sure I haven’t found them all yet. A solid 10/10. Highly recommended. And the price? Totally worth it for what the game delivers.
Excelente juego.
Great little roguelite game! The shooting and all the spells pack a punch making you feel powerful while still dying early in a run. There are some perma upgrades like max health and bullet speed. The biomes are all kind of different, but the layout feels quite similar on the first ones after 4-5 runs. This game strenght is all about the various spells and perks that makes runs more unique. Steam deck: Runs well with steady 60fps. The game controller support is not detecting the steam deck so you gotta use keyboard and mouse layout, but it all works this way. Some ui and the map text doesnt scale right for the steam deck resolution so they are cropped out of the screen or kind of small.
I haven't played 12 hours, I left it open by accident, I say it's closer to 2.5 hours. And yes, it's a solid recommned, however it was not at first, let me explain. At the begging I thought it was way too hard, everything being so small and happening so fast, I thought it was too unfair. But at some point I accidentaly dropped a decoy spell near one of those pumps, and all enemies rushed towards it, and I just tear them down from behind. That was a turning point for me, the game wanted me to use my tools a little (it's very ovbios in hindsight), and after that the game turned into something new. I was planning a little more, reading my spells more carefully and trying to come up with strategies to disable each pump. It is still hard (maybe a little too hard) but I feel like with a little more permanant level ups and carefull planning I'll beat it. Bosses are tough. Gameplay feels great, I think that's why I didn't gave up sooner, and I'm glad I didn't.
Feels like risk of rain 1, which is a very good thing
