The first ever M4M V/N Game i have ever played and will forever be in my heart as my favorite. Many romance options with choices that ACTUALLY MATTER, great CG's and the side dates are even worth the time of the player. Mark Matthews the man you are.
Premise This review reflects my personal experience with the game. While I aim to write thoughtfully and as fairly as possible, my reviews are subjective in nature and should not be used as objective metrics to assess/critique a game. I also curate a steam group which focusses on reviewing BL/Bara/MxM VNs. Coming Out on Top is structured around six main romance routes, plus a set of shorter “Brofinder” dates that add even more variety. What makes this game stands the test of time is the writing. It’s genuinely funny without trying too hard, and the dialogue feels natural. Conversations with Penny and Ian, your roommates, keep the game realistic and provide a true support network for Mark. Each route has its own tone. Brad’s route leans more into that frat energy, Alex’s brings in power dynamics with him being your professor, Ian feels more of a "straight acting" guy, and someone like Amos feels completely different again. Some routes are more developed than others, but overall there’s enough variety that replaying never feels like a chore. Representation — ★★★★★ Coming Out On Top nails the representation field! It just puts you in a space where being gay is normal, messy, funny, awkward, and sometimes a bit chaotic. The fact that everything starts after Mark comes out is significant. What stands out is how relationships are handled. They’re not always perfect. Some routes feel genuine, some feel a bit messy, and some are just outright ridiculous. You get to experience each character with a mixture of nuances and complexities; that mix is what makes the game feel real. Gameplay — ★★★★☆ At its core, this is a visual novel, but there’s a bit more structure than most. You’re making choices that shape which route you end up on, and once you commit to someone, the game focuses on that relationship. There are also small mechanisms in place such as studying, working, and managing your time, which affect how things play out. Then there’s Brofinder. Short dates, quick interactions, sometimes just there for fun, sometimes leading to some of the more unexpected moments in the game. Art & Direction — ★★★★☆ The art has a very distinct style. However, it is easy to see that this is one of the earliest games made using the renply's engine for M/M games. Character designs are clean and expressive, and the CG scenes are well placed throughout each route. You unlock them as you progress, which gives you something to work toward. Do I recommend it? — ★★★★★ Yes. This is one of the easiest recommendations in this space. If you enjoy visual novels with memorable character and excellent art, this game is for you. There’s a reason people keep coming back to it.

valeu cada centavo, meu pau nunca mais foi o mesmo
Everyone loves D even when they hate to admit it, including *straight* bros who love futas cuz they have D's... Btw.. Coming Out on Top 2 would be great!
Much better gay game then that awful Dream Daddy, you can actually SEE the action and the main character. Dream Daddy is a joke, get this instead... ♥
Amazing how many fake reviews there are for this game saying how great it is. It is extremely boring and riddled with so much inane dialogue that you end up just clicking through all of it as quickly as possible in the hope of something interesting FINALLY popping up. FYI, that doesn't ever happen. There is very little worth even trying to play out for the sparse gay scenes that might finally be found, and most are just spoken to with zero visuals. There is definitely a reason it is so cheap and I am thankful that I bought it when it was on sale. But honestly, I would like my $10 bucks refunded because it truly is that freaking boring.
