Wow. This was a great experience. It's free, download it now.
Outstanding! Looks great, runs well and very informative. Really puts you there. Not as huge as I had always imagined.
I used the VR experience via cable on the Oculus Quest II. Though so far everything from the Rift worked perfect that way. I say that to put my experience in perspective. The "game" itself is stunnung and beautiful. Alas, there are VERY long loading times. When I first stood before the Flavian Amphitheatre and nothing happened for minutes, I feared it was a bugged, but it was just 3-4 minutes loading the intro. Then it worked well, as I floated in front of it, being told fascinating details, but as I was about to enter, anothing loading, which lasted 5 minutes and then the "game" crashed. It surely needs some work to have lesser loading times and be more stable. Since it is free, go and try if it works for you. I give this negative review in hope the developers work on these issues for it deserves technical quality and to be experienced.
When I first saw this title, I thought this was a game. It was when I launched it that I realized that this was more of an educational experience. Nevertheless, it was a fascinating and informative walkthrough covering deep and interesting information about the Colosseum and the Roman Empire. The introduction is rather static and sort of disconcerting. At this point you will realize that you can't really move around or interact with items, which makes it less immersive. The only interaction available through the experience, is when you are given the choice to pick a character or a viewing platform. Technically, the graphics are pretty good, immersive, and run smooth for the most part. As for the voice acting, I can say that it was good, most of the time I was listening and paying attention to the explanation, but every now and then it would get a little monotone and I'd lose the focus and start looking around the environment. This didn't happen very often though, and the whole experience is on the short side, as it lasts around 30 minutes. Even though I really liked this experience, there is room for improvement: Adding more interaction with the environment, adding a mode with freedom of movement to explore the surroundings, simulating a battle while sitting among the rest of the spectators, and being able to visit the underground tunnels beneath the arena. I would recommend this free experience without a doubt. It makes you realize the actual proportion of the Colosseum, while explaining the history setting the context of that era to properly understand the reasons behind certain decisions or situations.
Played on Oculus Quest 2, this is a great VR experience, and educational too. Its somewhat on rails, but you get to travel in and around the Colosseum, and surrounding area, you learn about how it worked, its history and the gladiators. Its seems like a great use of VR, and I think we need a lot more of this type of VR content. Would be improved if you could walk around instead of it being on rails, but its is pretty good,
Amazing, very informative and well done. I wish school had been like this!
A nice history lesson, informative, and impressive. The narration is clear and interesting and the visuals are nice. Very little interactivity, so don't expect to fight actual gladiators :P
The Chad Emperor, The Virgin Slave
