Buyers, beware: when you shut down this game, it keeps a process in the background that makes Steam believe it is still running, which means it keeps adding to your total playtime. When you try to kill the process, it keeps re-opening itself over and over. Whether it is a dishonest practice to make you go beyond the 2 hour refund limit or a ridiculous oversight, I won't support this game further and I asked for a refund. Oh yeah: the game is cute and I might get it again once they fix it. Developers, please respect your customers.
i tried this game just for the heck of it. thought it would be a nice change of pace from the traditional mmo. sadly, as much as i wanted to like the game, it's riddled with bugs, combat is fairly boring, no tutorial as to how anything works in the game, camera is slightly janky, and i understand the game is in early access, but i don't see it improving at all. wouldn't be surprised if the game goes F2P within the first year
I don't recommend this game
Firstly, I don't have 0.5 hours of gameplay, I played the game via its private launcher before getting it on steam to put a rating on it. Let me be clear, this game in its current state is not good and I fear it will NEVER be.. I'll start with the good and the bad points about the game and its development, and then talk about ""Codevision studio"".

GOOD POINTS +

- Graphics: the studio has indeed chosen an atypical graphic style, and personally I like it 'quite' well, but that's a matter of taste.
- Class system: It's an old class system with "Tiers" the more your characters takes in level, the more his gameplay evolve and improve (But, you'll see in the negative points :) !)
- Davide: Davide is the main programmer and the "Dad" of the project, It's easy to see that Davide loves his game and gives 100% of himself to it. (He's always available on discord to answer our questions, etc.) Now, davide i know you'll read this comment, you'r also a part of the problem (to me).

BAD POINTS +

Class and gameplay overall : To be clear, almost all abilities of the game are useless (In PvP) and are a lost of dps in PvE, the game need an hard rework on thoses. WHY ? - Effects of spells are in general useless, or in the case of the Thief (starter class) it's a dps loss to you any ability in combat. (Auto-attacks are just better than playing the game, the game become an CLICKER HERO GAME) - Close range classes must stop movement to cast spells, in the futur on pvp content, that's will be a BIG Issue ! How would you hit someone who just WALK if you have more than 2 second cast time with no movement ? (In the game you'r faster if you jump, so in PvP, people will just Bunny Hop will moving, you can't hit anyone with your spells as Close range spec) Solution : instant cast OR casting while moving.
BUGS : There is a LOT of bugs in the game, that was "normal" during beta tests, Davide told us that the release build will be more playable, that's not the case.
Lack of content and long waiting times between content additions
multiples delays in updates because the content was not ready. (Tiers 2 classes were delayed 8 times for example)
Last point, (there is more bad points, but i don't want to loose any attention before THAT BIG BAD point so ..) The last bad point is Codevision studio, the studio and his management. I can understand that it's a small 'indie' game with 'little' money. But the studio says it has 6 developers, that's not true. The only dev they have is Davide, the others are more or less 2D or 3D artists. How can you devs an MMORPG with only 1 dev. That's the reason why the game took so long to evolve, why there is delays, bugs, ... To me, the studio can't do half of what they've announced. there is somes "features or map" that was annonced on 2021 (we are on september 2023 when i write it) that still missing or not working as intended. If Davide remains the only dev, the game is heading for failure.
And i'm still waiting my "Warlord" contribution. (Skin, pets, ...) Thanks to read me (I am French, my English is certainly approximate)
still in beta so yeh lots of bugs. The jumping mechanic is wack. I wanted to play this and relax but I end up getting angry since I get hit by some random enemy attack that should not hit. Especially, when there's a red circle indicating where the attack is going to land. Even though I am out of it, somehow I just take damage.
It appears as if this was way too soon for a,,release''. Still too many bugs and the camera mode is a drag(no pun intended) Would have prefered a action cam similiar to gw2. Combat could use some fine tuning to make it more interesting, like with blocks/combos/parry... Unfortunately,i dont think the game will ever get a chance to improve on anything, because its pretty much dead already. Plenty of people have warned the developer about making the game b2p. And at this point i have discussed this so many times already that i wont go into it again here. But tldr: ,,A couple hundred''players were promised. We got 11 during peak time. At the time of writing this review, there are 4 people playing. So yea...b2p was the final nail in the coffin, when there are so many mmo,s out there who are free.
I purchased this game a few months ago when it was £20 and with the knowledge that it was Early Access and a full wipe would occur before the final release. I could not motivate myself to deal with the many bugs back then and i withdrew from the EA. I returned with this final release last week, missing the launch day, but played over the weekend. The price to purchase has now been reduced greatly to £12. I have played a solid 20+ hours over the weekend and for me i feel that is more than enough value for money. I am admittedly addicted to all MMO/MMORPG/ARPG games out there and I purchase nearly every single one of them, including premium packs on F2P games. Many of the reviews mention the business model of this game as being the wrong choice, ultimately this is the devs business decision and not ours, I do feel though that the initially high pricing back in June created a tsunami of negative feedback and opinion and it may be too little to late with the price drop. The price now is fine but may not be enough to regain previously interested players due to the negative reviews. The population is very low and this will need improving if the games mechanics (planned and current) are to be realised. World Boss encounters require group, Boss encounters ideally require groups, PvP requires many players, Sieges require many Pvpers etc etc. The graphical theme of player avatars and the map scenery is incredibly cutesy. I dislike cute lol....but this works really well in Cinderstone. The camera is actually fine as well once you get used to it via practice. The dodge mechanic is reasonable and is a staple ingredient of most encounters. Questlines and grindy moments as per standard mmo releases. I have yet to get started on the crafting and gathering aspects of the game that open up around lev 20 with a device that automatically gathers resources. Looking forward to tinkering with this. If you have gotten this far reading the above you may now be asking 'so why has Hexorcist given a positive review?' Quite simply because I have really enjoyed my time ingame so far and I believe this game has potential providing the population is improved. During my time over the weekend I watched the solo dev work tirelessly on bugs and issues that were being reported via discord. I witnessed many bugs and issues being resolved, some were ones that had been bothering the team for a long time but with the community feedback and dev diligence these were squashed in the last couple of days. For me the discord and dev activity is a good sign. Let's be honest, it is increasingly difficult for veteran gamers such as myself to find that outstanding new game that keeps us interested for more than 3 months. So many of the releases in the last 5 years have been very disappointing and i am not certain I will ever find a game that I will call my 'forever game' but in an effort to have fun gaming I shall give every release that shows potential, a chance to shine. In summary, this game has great potential and is a lot of fun. I have enjoyed myself so far and it would be unjust of me to slap a negative review on it. At the current price of £12 it is well worth trying out. I wish the dev and his team all the best for the next few months and I hope the population grows.
very good like its good
how could they not consider adding Q + E to rotate your character? or even clicking a button to lock the camera to the mouse movement? stuck right-clicking and holding right-click to change the camera constantly. it hurts my hands no keybind settings at all, no autorun - and to get started in this game the quests have you running A LOT A LOT A LOT!!!!!!!!!! objects around the world will have names straight from the code like "Shrine_Sidequest_2" beat a kill quest? message pops up "default text kill". Progress the main quest? similar pop-up. its just so unpolished the very first quest cutscene glitches out and is really zoomed in on the character's face. I confirmed this is consistent across multiple attempts. Also the whole scene is incredibly strange and doesnt really make any sense definitely feels like something someone programmed but NEVER played also, I havent played this much. the game runs in the background unless you quit the launcher after exiting the game
I really like the game and it has tons of potential. Of course it's early access so there is a lot of missing content, but the developers seem to be working daily on fixing bugs and adding in more content. I was happy to pay for early access to support their efforts. However, if you are buying this game expecting a full mmorpg, you won't be satisfied - yet. It still needs a lot of work, but the potential is there and there is real tangible progress being made every day. Personally I'm confident that the developers will make it all the way to the end so I bought in to early access. I like how when I posted some bugs in the official discord channel, the developers immediately replied. Right now (June 4th 2023) there is a story line and some side quests, and 2 raid-like dungeons. Crafting is so far very limited, and resource gathering like mining is also very limited. So there isn't much to do yet.
