Are you ready to peer into the abyss of fear and uncertainty alongside the protagonist and unravel the mystery of her best friend’s disappearance? Welcome to a world where reality gradually ceases to be what it seems.

You play as Nina, a young girl whose parents are constantly fighting, leaving her with little to do besides going to school with her best friend. One morning, however, her friend is not waiting outside the apartment building. When you arrive at school, you find a detective investigating the disappearance. The visual style is a key part of the experience. The game captures a classic Soviet atmosphere, complete with towering apartment blocks, cold and foggy weather, and a muted gray color palette. What makes it stand out is the pixelated presentation, which gives the impression that it was made decades ago. The controls follow the old “tank” style. Pressing left or right turns the character in place, while pressing up or down moves her forward or backward. The controls are closely tied to the cinematic camera, which shifts angles automatically as you move around. Gamepad support is only partial. You can move, but you cannot interact. Strangely, if you use a gamepad or the arrow keys, Nina loses her walking animation and glides as if she were skating on ice. To see proper walking animations, you need to use the WASD keys. Another element that reinforces the game’s atmosphere is the lack of on-screen markers. Nothing is highlighted from a distance. To discover interactive objects, you must approach them until they glow brightly. But this only happens for key items. There is only one type of interaction, so Nina will either comment on an object or pick it up. The slow text display can be frustrating. Unless you are in a conversation, you cannot skip the gradual appearance of letters. If you accidentally interact with the same object again, you must wait for the full text to appear before moving on. Fortunately, most of these interactions are optional and mainly serve to enrich the world. The game guides you in a fairly straightforward way. You begin with a linear walk from the apartment to the school. Inside the school, you are guided again by finding the unlocked door. Sometimes, there are monsters to avoid. They appear without explanation and can even be missed entirely if you know where to go. Every door is locked except the one required to progress, and a hint button directs the camera toward your objective. This feature is also helpful when you are outside. Unfortunately, the game is both short and occasionally buggy. Some issues are visual, such as clipping through solid objects, including walls. Others are more serious. You might break a scene trigger by pressing the interaction button twice, become stuck and unable to move, or find yourself unable to progress. Thankfully, the save option resets the scene to the point at which you entered it. There are also ideas that feel underused, such as the cigarettes. Early on, you are told to use them to calm yourself during frightening moments. You can collect many of them, filling your inventory, but in practice, Nina calms down on her own after a short time, making them unnecessary. Overall, the atmosphere and old-school feel are very appealing, but the pacing and technical issues hold the game back. The ending feels rushed. After leaving the school, the detective simply explains what happened, without giving you the chance to uncover much on your own. The price is also questionable, as it is too high for such a short experience, despite the evident effort put into its distinctive visual style. Interesting, but only at a steep discount.
As a right now the game has a lot of glitches, but I'm still looking forward to play it when the bugs are fix. As right now I can not play the game it crash a lot.
Смог пройти игру с третьей попытки из-за технических проблем, но после завершения "сюжета демо-версии" игра стала цеплять. Атмосфера очень хорошая. Игра в общем понравилась, не смотря на технические проблемы
More Russian shovelware, this time a 30 minute long walking sim/adventure-lite with game mechanics from Alone in the Dark (remember how awkward that was to play on PC?) and visuals not so different from that original X-Box game, too... it looks like crap and plays worse. The Russian translation is garbage tier, Google Translate should be ashamed of itself. You take on the role of a little Russian schoolgirl (not creepy at all that Russian developers seem obsessed with this) and go on a 30 minute long walking adventure in an alcoholism addled town in northern Russia. There's the odd jumpscare. The game is deeply unpleasant to play and full of bugs, glitches, clipping problems. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game assets here look a lot better than the actual game they're assembled on... that doesn't mean this is necessarily an asset flip or a kitbash, because there's no proof. But what matters is that this has all the same terrible quality as asset flips, and at the end of the day that's one of the reasons people don't like asset flips, the quality is bad. That's a problem. This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this never made it to the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. These flaws make this game fall far short of the professional standards we expect from a modern PC game. Next is pricing and what value this has for gamers. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 140,000+ games on Steam? Chilling Silence has the far too high price of around $4, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 130 million gamers on Steam and well over 140,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
