About
ChessLocke is chess with RPG elements. Your pieces gain experience points, level ups, and new abilities to unlock and upgrade as you progress through a campaign where every game is unique.
ChessLocke uses standard Chess movements on an 8x8 game board, but your pieces will also have a set of new abilities to help you win games. The object of ChessLocke is to land on the enemy Throne and stay there for 1 turn. The Throne is simply the square where the Kings always start. Unlike traditional Chess, if the King is captured, the game continues.
Once a game ends, your total experience points (XP) will be accumulated to spend on new abilities and upgrades for those abilities. You will accumulate XP by winning games, capturing enemy pieces, and other various achievements. Each power piece has 3 unique abilities to help win games that may assist in capturing enemy pieces, defending ally pieces, and other utility. For example, the Knight has a Joust ability, which allows a straight-line attack. The Bishop has a Revive ability, which allows the player to bring back a removed piece. The King has Dub Knight, which allows a Pawn to be promoted to Knight for the rest of the game. Players will decide which abilities to purchase to use in game.
The single-player Campaign consists of 50 missions where piece placements are different for each game. For example, your Rooks may swap places with your Bishops, you might start with only 5 Pawns, or maybe your Knights start on the 3rd row. There may be Walls placed on certain squares in a game where neither player may land nor pass through, however Knights can jump over Walls as they can jump over ally or enemy pieces.
Completing the Campaign unlocks the Dungeon, which is 50 more missions, but instead of each mission having equal pieces and advantages, the Dungeon's opponent will have more pieces and better advantages positional. Each mission will be like a puzzle you must solve.

This is wild and surprisingly complex. I almost don't understand it at all but I get through it and take some mental stimulation from it. Specializing in Game Theory in my senior year of college took the challenge out of it because I removed the mystery of strategy games while studying it, as a way of making my major into a working skill. But this was still a learning experience for me. I learned how to push myself to think again...Winning builds you up if you do something with that momentum. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. EDIT: Now that I've played through the whole game (And beat it like it owed me money. All dungeons and missions done in 38.8 hours, with about 10 hours of breaks) ....This is truly the companion game that Chess needed. Regular 32-piece, 8x8 2D chess, be it speed chess, timed or classical, leads to too many draws, and I like the wilder nature of Chesslocke. Chesslocke doesn't have the harshness of conventional Chess due to the "Simply pick the better upgrade path" upgrade tree, but it certainly has more flash, more variety and is more relaxed, making is feel very good. 9/10. More wild than chess, but not as challenging as it could be. I didn't need to think 30 moves ahead, I just needed to factor the game down, control squares, use maximum employment and get super aggressive. I cut through the game like butter but have to think hard to play regular Chess which means that I'm not as smart as I feel after beating this game.

This game doesn't follow the rules of chess??? You cannot castle, the enemy will expose itself to a check even though that's illegal, and while this has nothing to do with the rules of chess you have to press end turn every time after you move which is pointless.
rly cool but a bit easy. guess it's meant for people that are about 1200 rated in chess max (for the hard mode). which is cool with me. very accessible.
An extremely strategic version of chess which puts a new spin on things. A bit of skill is involved, as well as picking the right strategy of upgrading to clear all the levels. Cons- (atm) Not enough for single player Will be excited to see what is pushed out during the multiplayer phase Players who are already strong at chess should be able to clear everything without an issue, but even beginners at chess will be able to enjoy this new "chess" variant!
Simple yet intriguing game with ways to cheese the AI while also find ways for the AI to screw you! The game gives Chess a whole new way to play, giving a bit of a puzzle rpg vibe when going through missions and dungeons. The Ai is far from flawless as it makes some questionable decisions sometimes, but overall the challenge remains there. I wish we could get more dungeons or maybe an AI hard mode after beatign everything to trult challenge ourselves. Well worth the 5 bucks or 99 cents when it goes on sale.
This game is a really fun way to challenge your brain. I've seen some people complain about the difficulty, but if it easy, is it fun? rating: 9/10 (only thing I would change is that we are told that the enemy can use the special abilities as well, other than that 10/10 would play again) If you enjoy chess but want a fun twist, try this game out, worth it even at full price.
ChessLocke is an incredibly fun and addictive game that I would 100% recommend. If you like chess or rpg's or just are looking for a way to pass the time, ChessLocke is for you! An easy way to spend countless hours on and to hone your skills! Play with others or the 100 stages in campaign, a challenging yet exciting game! The community is really nice and supportive and so is the dev! Great artwork and music, a great deal totally worth buying!
I'm an experienced chess player and wasn't expecting much at first. But the game turned out to be quite fun! Played for 2 hours non-stop. In each mission, the starting positions of pieces on the board are different. But the goal is the same: Land a piece on your opponent's throne without it being captured for 1 turn to win. Checks and checkmates don't apply, so the king can be sacrificed too. The pieces move as per normal, but you can decide whether to use a special ability during each turn. Note that special abilities are limited during each mission, so use wisely! Special abilities can be upgraded by gaining XP through capturing enemy pieces. However, I think this mechanic is also a drawback when sometimes it's much faster to end the mission by landing on the opponent's throne than to capture all enemy pieces. Perhaps, the developer can also factor the number of moves into the XP gain. Nonetheless, the game is balanced and fully playable as the difficulty progresses gradually. If you are a fan of chess variants and unconventional tactical puzzles, this one's worth it (especially when it's on sale)!
Honestly an amazing game
