You can certainly do better, but it's still chess. I'm terrible at it, as much as it's terrible at being a good game.

It's just chess. If you like Chess, you'll probably enjoy it. While playing, I enjoyed it, but I also realized that I was having trouble figuring out which characters did what, in terms of the opposing team. They don't have identical characters to you, they're pirates and zombie looking things, so I sometimes couldn't tell what kind of piece it was. That wasn't too much of an issue though because there is an "undo" button that will let you redo your move if your pawn got taken by a rook that you thought was a knight.
