Centipede Simulator

A twist on the snake-like game, except that now you’re a centipede eating crickets. There’s a classic mode where you not only grow longer with each eaten cricket, but also move faster and earn more points. Fast speed is fine because you eat faster, and turning speed is surprisingly great, but it might be too much to handle later. To restore speed, you need to eat a ladybug that appears after you eat a few crickets. Controls don’t need a lot of explanation because you have the four main directions to guide the centipede as its moves forward on its own. Since there are plenty of crickets around, you can earn points quite fast. However, there are also more threats compared to a standard snake-like game, and not just walls or hitting into your own body. Danger comes from other insects that end the game when you crash into them, such as spiders, or insects that come out of the ground. Nothing happens if they hit your body, and you won’t be victim of cheap deaths you don’t see coming. The other two modes are “run”, where the run is under your control and you gain stamina by eating crickets, and “Prey” where you turn into an ultimate predator by eating ladybugs, which then lets you eat other threats for extra points. Either way, all of the modes are about earning as many points as possible. There’s no story or higher purpose except high score and grindy achievements.

[b]Plays Beautifully on the Steam Deck[/b] [i]Centipede Simulator[/i] is a game that knows what it wants to do and does it really well. Graphics are beautiful and detailed, sound is crisp, the music doesn't get boring, and above all the game loop is really [b]tight[/b]. I would have been pleased enough if the game gave me five minutes of entertainment here and there, but I've ended up playing way more than I thought. I don't care for records, it's just really fun to play. I haven't tried multiplayer, but I don't care for it one way or another, so I'll give the developer a deserved benefit of the doubt and assume that's solid, too. I've played the game on a Steam Deck, where it's smooth as butter, hence the title. I think it is a great match for the platform. Overall, this is a little polished gem. It's definitely the best snakelike (that a genre?) I've ever played, and for the asking price, a no-brainer. Go get you some crickets! 😂

A very well polished game that pays ohmage to the classic arcade game while also feeling like its own entry with various game modes and new enemies. Also, as an entomologist and arthropod enthusiast, it really feels like I am looking into my own backyard! I would love to see unlockable skins for completing various in-game achievements, whatever they might be. [spoiler]My wife is terrified of centipedes and screamed when she looked over my shoulder, so that was a fun added bonus. :P[/spoiler]

cute little game :) its a fun adaptation of snake and i'm very glad for the fixed camera mode being present. Good for the occasional playsession. Overall the game reminds me of an old love, feeding frenzy. it'd be cute to see the game expand into a level-based experience like that game, with varying challenges appearing on the arena where you have to reach a certain goal or size. Some thoughts on what i think could help make this game feel more "full" - unlockable appearances for your 'pede, so that score results in something. - adding a mode that combines all the gamey features? stamina sprinting and prey turn combined would be more fun. Maybe something that also lets you clear out the antlions for points would be fun. - add a qol setting to make sprinting be a toggle rather than a hold, hurts my poor hand to hold the mouse down that long!

Centipede Simulator reminds me of that old school nastalgic snake game where you eat, grow , and avoid yourself! In this one, not only do you avoid yourself, you must avoid other critters all while it gets truly intense. Really enjoying this one, as it has great replay/entertainment value! Thumbs Up!
