It had potential. It doesn't look like they are going to finish the story so why bother?
After quite the long wait Celestian Tales Realms Beyond is finally here. If you played the first game, you'll love this one too. It improves upon many things and fine tunes the things that were already great Pros: -Combat is well balanced. If you're paying attention you can plow through enemies at a well pace, however if you get lazy you can become overwhelmed quickly -Characters are unique and evolve throughout the story and each have their own selfish goals. No one character is similar or "morally perfect" -Art style. This game has an absolute fantastic art style, the characters portraits and environments are hand painted with water coloring accents. The characters and enemies are well pixelated and reminiscent of classic RPGS like Chrono Trigger and Hero of Mana -Music is fantastic. The songs are very unique and stand out from each other, and they all have a nice mix of both classic fantasy and opera Cons: -No mini map. A problem I had with the last game was the lack of a mini map and it's a bit disappointing that the problem continued in this game. However there is a map you can pull out in certain areas that's extremely helpful -No Journal. Not sure what the point of taking out the journal was. It greatly helped the player in the last game as it told you where to go and expanded on the game's lore, bit of a disappointment that it was discontinued in this game Overall: This is a fantastic RPG that has a strong story and doesn't rely on tired or overused tropes. There's no "chosen one" or "ancient crystals" or anything of the sort. The game tells a strong story about the darkside of politics and shows how cruel betrayal can be. As the world events unfold the characters are forced to bend their morals to either fit in, or stay true to themselves and fight for their own selfish reasons
This is a really good game for those who like RPGs with a great story line. I played Old North and then this one, which is a direct sequel. While the gameplay in both games is simplistic and the same, the visuals, music and depth of story are worlds apart. The story line in Old North was good enough to keep you interested, but in Realms Beyond, it takes a darker more realistic turn. Unlike the previous game, Realms Beyond allows you to make the hard choices and then you see the effect that those choices have on the game's overall story; some that have a serious and direct bearing on how the story plays out. Honestly, some of the twists in the plot really surprised me and by the time I had finished the game, I was quite disappointed that it was already ending, because I wanted the story to continue. Hopefully the folks at Ekuator games will continue building on their success and keep making more games in this series!
Good. ( so far ) Reminds me of a PS1 / PS2 era JRPG.
First impressions: Writing: Story continuation, allowed to change certain events based on how you ended the previous game (I honestly will need a refresher to recall all of my decisions in the first game.) Easy to pick up even if it's your first foray into the game world, though some things will lack context and depth of situations in the visited places. Defined as still good writing so far. Beautiful art and audio. Hard to articulate, as a stick-figure drawing is complicated for my artistic ability. Linux - It's absolutely worth pointing out the original game included a native linux. This version sadly lacks native linux build with zero intention of doing so, though a MacOS release is coming, according to a developer in the forums. For my part, this was probably my last 'windows only' purchase. As far as running via proton, it will make bug reporting a challenge for the average non-power linux user. So far, no game breaking bugs during my testing but certainly a small scattering of 'unusual' NPC glitches. Mostly during events when NPC's are moving in pathing operations and then post event snap back to the 'starting' position of their pathing operation - certainly a jarring thing, but not precisely immersion breaking for me. I'll continue to update my review as my playtime increases, and add further information below my original post. -----
Game has problems. You can't get past a certain part when you deal with the thief to get the key and box for the hammer.

This game has been beautifully made. I've been waiting a long time for you guys to deliver this. I'm happy it's finally out. I was willing to pay you $39.99. It's not often we find jrpgs similar to Suikoden. I really enjoy this company's game design capabilities. Please continue making sequels. Hope your whole family is safe due to covid.
