CATMORPHOSIS is a supernatural adult visual novel with weird romantic elements, a unique vibrant retro art style, and an abnormal storyline. You're Johann, and one night, you decided to order a cat from shady website. However, when the cat arrives a few days later, it's definitely NOT a normal cat.

I loved the premise of this game and really wanted to like it, but ended up refunding it after my first hour. 1. Storytelling Visual Novels should never ignore player's choice. At least 2 times within my first hour I was presented a choice, picked one of the options and the main character immediately did exactly what the other option said, with minimal reasoning. Either don't offer any choice, allow some kind of quick "fail" ending for picking the "wrong" option (personally not a fan of this but common enough and still an improvement) or actually branch the story. Also the pacing of the story feels very off. The scenes don't feel fully fleshed out, more like storyboards really. Especially the transition between the scenes often feel too quick. Which isn't helped by the fact that the localization is jarringly mediocre (especially surprising given it only supports English). 2. UX The game lacks many QoL features that I've grown used to from Visual Novels that use Ren'Py. The ability to have multiple save slots (this is a big one for me, because I like exploring all options pretty exhaustively), Hotkeys for things like opening the menu, hiding the UI and a button to skip already seen text (especially since I can't even spam the continue button because it takes a noticeable amount of time to become clickable making skipping forward quite the pain). 3. Art It matches what I'd expect based on the store page. The style is not really for me, especially for the sex scenes, but I knew that coming in so I don't consider that a negative for the game.. While writing this I found out that this is the Developer's first Steam game. While I don't consider this game a "good" visual novel in its current state, I think it is fine for a developer still early in their career and honestly wish them all the best for their future! The ideas are really strong and the rest is a craft that improves with experience.
"So you like catgirls, huh? ...Heh. I'll show you what it'd REALLY be like to have a catgirl." Psychotic game. Even as a seasoned gooner, I was not prepared for how deranged some of these scenes would be. The game has a compelling story, drawing you in with a sort of morbid intrigue. I haven't seen dynamics this toxic since The Coffin of Andy and Leyley. Worth a buy if your into that kind of thing.
The premise is interesting and that's my only positive for this game. The negatives I have to point out include: 1) Weak Storytelling: While I mentioned the premise is interesting, what's given is every predictable, generic trope and cliche from every B-horror and mostly harem romcoms you can think of. It's too simplistic in its content that it should be 3 hours at most NOT 10 hours for the whole story. If you have even the smallest knowledge of the genres I mentioned you'll quickly predict where the story is going and the game is waaaay too slow to get their. The ending and payoff is a waste of your patience and an insult to your intelligence. 2) Poor writing: The game lacked the ability to create buildup, suspension, foreshadowing or delivering relevant information. Not to mention there were cases of inconsistencies, contradictions and sometimes even ignoring what information the story established. 3) Character choices don't matter: Most of the choices are inconsequential, there are no branching routes and there's only one story with no variations. Choices only affect whether or not you want to see more +18 scenes and that there's only ONE bad ending after 7 hours of your choices doing jacksh!t to the story. 4) Story is told in 2nd person: Problem with that is you're not even playing through a character's point of view, you're watching the characters in 3rd person and you follow more than one character so it's a messy confusion when the game decides to switch characters. 5) Game's art and writtng aren't in sync during scene changes: During any segway or scene transition, the art will show me something had happened and the text needs several sentences to catch up and explain what's going on. 6) Writing Mistakes and no proof reading. 7) There's barely any horror: The horrific screenshots you've seen on the store page are only the first 10 minutes. After that 90% of the game is harem catgirl p0rn with some B level horror sprinkled in the middle and not be shown again until the last 2 hours of the story. I'm a coward and aside from 2 cat images at the start the horror either left me laughing or unfazed. 8) Sound Effects are annoying: The game will either go a long time not having any sound effects and then suddenly it uses some poorly recorded or just stock audio that is just irritating to the ears. 9) Only one manual save: No auto save and no multiple save slots. There's only the option to manually save for when you want to leave the game and not lose your spot. 10) No log: When the game changes to a different panel (like a comic book) you cannot read texts from previous panels only the ones you are currently on. 11) No Skip option: Either spam the left mouse button or prepare an autoclicker if you're planning on a 2nd run 12) No Read Text display 13) The writing makes the MC passive and purposefully oblivious and I hate him: He doesn't do any sort of meaningful investigation on his own, ignores obvious warning signs, is not cautious or cautious when he should be, only thinks with his other head, his emotions go from 0 to 11 at the dumbest moments etc. 13) I finished the game and I don't know what catgirls are: Whether it's the game's poor explanation or attempt at sequel baiting, I don't care anymore. Catamorphosis is an amateurish mess. It's boring at best and comically aggravating at worst. As a horror game it's lacking and disappointing. As a cattgirl adult game depends on whether or not you like the art style. Skip this game
This had been a surprisingly good and lengthy game. I had almost 5 hours in before i got a a bad ending game over. I went in thinking it was gonna be just like a 30 min time killer and got a way better story than i expected. Wont lie though the start of the game almost made me not want to play but glad i stuck with it and saw it thought to were i got. My only complaint is that theres no auto skip/ fast forward like in other visual novels and the english is a bit rough but not so sad i cant tell what they ment. solid 4 out of 5
CATMORPHOSIS is a deliberately strange and niche visual novel that leans into surrealism, psychological discomfort, and adult themes to create an experience that feels more like an experimental narrative piece than a traditional game. Developed by KatWhorm Studios and published by Hexapede Games, it builds its identity around transformation—both literal and metaphorical—using an unusual premise as a gateway into a story that steadily drifts away from normality and into something far more unsettling. The game begins with a concept that borders on absurd: the protagonist acquires a mysterious “cat” through unconventional means, and what follows is a gradual unraveling of expectations. At first, the tone carries a sense of dark humor, almost inviting the player to treat the situation as bizarre but harmless. However, as the story progresses, it becomes clear that this is only a surface layer. The narrative shifts into increasingly uncomfortable territory, blending elements of psychological horror, identity distortion, and explicit content in ways that feel intentionally disorienting. Rather than guiding the player through a clearly defined arc, the game prefers to destabilize, presenting events that challenge both logic and emotional grounding. Structurally, CATMORPHOSIS follows the conventions of a visual novel, relying on dialogue, static scenes, and occasional branching choices. These choices do influence the direction of the story, leading to multiple outcomes, but the branching is relatively contained. The experience is less about dramatically different story paths and more about exploring variations of the same underlying themes. Gameplay, in the traditional sense, is minimal, placing almost all of the weight on narrative delivery and presentation. This makes it highly accessible, but also means that engagement depends almost entirely on how much the player connects with its tone and storytelling approach. The writing is intentionally unconventional. Dialogue often shifts abruptly between humor, unease, and outright discomfort, creating a sense that the world operates under its own internal logic rather than a coherent set of rules. Characters are not developed in a traditional sense; instead, they function as extensions of the game’s themes, embodying different aspects of transformation, control, and identity. This can make the experience feel abstract, as motivations and events are not always clearly explained. For players who enjoy interpreting fragmented narratives and drawing their own conclusions, this approach can be compelling. For others, it may feel disjointed or lacking in narrative cohesion. Visually, the game stands out through its bold and stylized presentation. The art direction uses bright, saturated colors and exaggerated character designs to create a surreal, almost dreamlike atmosphere. This contrast between vibrant visuals and darker thematic content is one of the game’s most effective tools, reinforcing the sense of unease that builds over time. Expressions and compositions are often exaggerated, amplifying both comedic and disturbing moments. While the overall production value is modest, the visual identity is strong enough to leave a lasting impression. A major component of the experience is its explicit adult content, which is not treated as an optional addition but as a central element of the narrative. These scenes are integrated directly into the story and often contribute to its themes of transformation and loss of control. However, their prominence also narrows the game’s appeal, as they can overshadow other aspects of the experience. For players interested in this type of content, it aligns with the game’s tone and intent; for others, it may feel excessive or detract from the narrative. Pacing is uneven by design. The game alternates between slower, dialogue-driven segments and sudden, intense moments that disrupt the flow. This unpredictability contributes to the overall atmosphere, but it can also make the experience feel inconsistent. Some sections linger on ideas without fully developing them, while others move quickly through significant events, leaving little time for reflection. The relatively short length of the game further emphasizes this, as there is limited space for deeper exploration of its concepts. Replayability comes primarily from exploring different endings and seeing how choices affect the outcome. However, because the core experience remains largely the same, the incentive to replay depends on how invested the player is in uncovering every variation. It is not a game built for long-term engagement, but rather one that offers a concentrated experience that can be revisited for completeness. Ultimately, CATMORPHOSIS is defined by its willingness to be unconventional. It does not aim to provide a polished or universally appealing experience, but instead focuses on delivering something distinct and memorable within its niche. Its strengths lie in its atmosphere, visual identity, and commitment to its themes, while its weaknesses stem from its lack of mechanical depth and occasionally unfocused narrative structure. For players who appreciate experimental storytelling, surreal imagery, and darker thematic exploration, it offers an experience that stands out precisely because of how unusual it is. For those looking for structured gameplay or a cohesive, traditional narrative, it may feel fragmented and difficult to engage with. It is a game that prioritizes expression over refinement, and its impact depends largely on how willing the player is to meet it on its own terms. Rating: 6/10
Nice story, very good art style. Only complaint would be the English dialogue, its obviously written by someone who doesnt speak English as their main language. Which is not a huge deal for me but I imagine it would be for other people.
Bought it for the fap left with a story it had me on the edge of my seat in moments only complaint would have liked to see more endings the few it had all felt like the same thing or not really like your choice matters as no matter what you choose on some options same outcome but other than that loved the story looking forward to more from the devs
Its a short light novel. It held my interest all the way through. It has some horror themes, nsfw, and the characters are memorable. It does require another playthrough to get different endings. Its very unique in its ideas. Do recommend.
