simple quick fun
This game takes my RTX 3080 to 100% utilization on its own. It's either horribly optimized or it's literally mining bitcoin.
Hoplomachus + Faeria maybe. Everyone has the same opportunity to defend against aggressive tactics as each other - complaints against them are an opinion. There are plenty of ways to adapt without just playing the same kind of cards as everyone.

Did they even playtest their game? I doubt it. You go first -> you win, you go second -> you lose. No comeback mechanics or counterplay. It's literally a much worse version of Duelyst or Faeria. The only "comeback" mechanic when you're going second is praying that your opponent misplays or gets screwed by topdecks. Meta is incredibly shallow for a game with 140 cards on launch, everyone spams the same ninja, sheriff and that guy who switches positions with ninja. On top of it my GPU gets to 95 degree celsius on low settings, so yeah, nope, thanks, I'll pass.
gud
This game has a lot of potential as early access development continues. There are definitely some improvements that need to be made, but the game is still fun. I like the consistency of the small deck size, the short length of each match, and the fact that the starter decks are very functional. I look forward to seeing how the game develops. The devs also seem to be quite responsive in the discord.
Duelyst and Shardbound substitute!
I'm a sucker for CCGs, and I have to say, Castlehold definitely tickles my fancy. A unique combination of a table-top board game-like design and deck-building strategy with nice art. I dig it. While the game is initially pretty simple to pick up, there is also a level of depth to it as you discover more units and are introduced to new tactics and card choices. You are challenged not only by deck creation, but also by how you maintain board control with proper movement and sequencing, resource management, and constantly trying to stay one step ahead of your opponent. It's F2P, and I have been very competitive with the initial selection of cards I received. I know it is still in the early stages, but I see a ton of potential in it, especially when more modes, prizes and cards get added to the game, hopefully regularly. The devs seem very responsive to feedback on their Discord channel, so I have no doubt it will continue to evolve. If you have an itch for tactical deck building like I do, I would definitely recommend Castlehold.
Solid.
