My new favourite VR game. Had a rocky start VR wise but after the latest update 12 days after launch I'm loving it on my Rift S. My main issue was no zoom but this has been fixed with a gimbal zoom function and it now works really well. They have also added smooth motion, teleport didn't bother me that much but it is more immersive now for sure. It hasn't been developed for the Rift S so controls need to be figured out which isn't ideal but once you do it is an awesome VR experience probably my favourite due to the game mechanics. There is nothing quite like controlling an aircraft carrier flying jets, firing TV missiles then airlifting land units all in VR :) As a PSA on the Rift S it's latest update now left joystick press for manual/auto toggle of a vehicle and right joystick press for support weapon select A/X to select vehicle weapon or camera etc. Older version for the Rift S used to be double tap X for manual mode when in a vehicle X and A to select item/weapon double tap A to change Carrier support weapon.
Ok... First of all... This game (overall) is incredible. But beware. You can dump a lot of time into this game, and not even get very far. But the game itself is very satisfying. If you want to read comments for the game itself, go check out the comments for Command Carrier 2 (Non-VR version). As for the VR. Ok. This is one of the best "hot messes" I have ever played. And by that, I mean... it's very playable in VR (Specifically Oculus Quest 2... my headset of choice). The immersion of this game is INCREDIBLE. Being able to walk around the entire ship, and witness everything happening in real time is unbelievable. Everything from the sounds (as they change when you go outside) to the ocean swells, is a real work of art. You have the bones of this game very solid. Everything in the game is depicted pretty much 1 to 1 in real time. I was a bit disappointed that the barge doesn't actually come aboard and off-load items in real time. Watching items disappear off the barge as they are loaded onto your ship DOES pull you out of the immersion somewhat.... but that doesn't really kill the immersion too much. It's incredible. HOWEVER (ok.... everything before this can be discarded. Here come the "buts") Playing this game in VR gives you a HUGE disadvantage over other players who are playing in pancake. HAVING said that... I do loudly applaud the developers for allowing cross play in this game. Brilliant!! The overall VR control structure is ok. I don't mind clicking buttons (as opposed to 'flipping switches' with my virtual hands). (I love that you can see everyone's screens over their shoulders) But controlling screens, controlling vehicles, getting measurements (distances and bearings) is SEVERELY limited in VR.... and for no reason. There are lots of buttons not being used, that could apply to other functions. i.e. Utilize the GRIP button to perform additional functions. It seems to be completely unused at the moment. Manually flying or driving vehicles is really limited compared to the desktop version. The thumb stick is HIGHLY sensitive and very difficult to make precise movements. Utilizing the "War Room" table doesn't allow you the same ability to draw out bearing/distance lines. But, again, most disappointingly is the very difficult task of manually controlling vehicles (Aircraft), and even the on-board ship scope. Also, while you CAN rotate your gimbal camera on an aircraft or on the carrier itself, you can't move it and keep it locked forward, which becomes REALLY hard if you're playing the game sitting down. You have to physically rotate your head around back if things are behind you, rather than scrolling the gimbal camera while maintaining a forward view. I'm sure there might be technical reasons for this. You need to figure out how to overcome them. I believe these and other Quality of Life improvements are undoubtedly coming, but for now, you'll have to accept the fact that you will be at a disadvantage if you are playing with other non-VR crew members. I still think this is a great game to invest in and see the improvements come in. WELL DONE!!

A great re imagining of the Carrier Command game from the 80s especially for anyone who remembers that game and played it, as I did on my Amiga 500. This is the game we IMAGINED we were playing. True to the original story line, unlike the Gaea Mission game released a few years ago by Bohemia Interactive, although that was not a bad game. The VR experience adds a whole new level of immersion as well. Well done Geometa. I hope MicroProse manage to do a remake of Rainbird's other 2 great titles, Midwinter and Flames of Freedom. If they do them like this, they will be a must buy too!! On the store page, Oculus headsets are not in the compatibility list, however it does work on the Quest 2. Maybe the Devs should edit the compatibility list to include the Oculus headsets as some potential buyers may be put off if it is not in the list.
1. It costs too much, should be around £19.99 imo. (£32.99 in UK) 2. The art style is cool but I wish the carrier and vehicle models were closer based on real life, but others may disagree 3. The VR is okay, not the best 4. Multiplayer is annoying to get working and playing with Non VR friends is difficult to get working 5. Sound design needs a bit more work imo. You sometimes feel pretty aimless and alone As long as it continues to be developed I will come back to play it at a later date (and when it comes down to a value more of my friends might buy it) but right now Im not going to play it in its current state 5/10
VR port is absolute garbage. Examples: - Smooth rotation axis doesn't move when you walk around your playspace. Instead it rotates you around the last spot you teleported or moved to, causing instant motion sickness (I am very, very experience with smooth VR motion and it still made me ill) - Controls all laser-mouse style, zero immersive grip/grab controls as far as I saw. VTOL VR this ain't. Clearly a hastily-done pancake port. - I spent ten minutes trying to teleport onto the very first elevator up to the carrier, as the point-and-click movement system wouldn't let me go there for no reason I could discern, until it finally did, again for no obvious reason. - The floating tooltips draw over closer geometry, killing immersion dead and giving me a headache. I waited to buy this game after the initial horrible VR port reviews. It is still very bad. I am seeking a refund and will avoid future VR titles from MicroProse, who clearly don't view VR as a priority or understand established conventions for player comfort and immersion. Seriously, just spend ten minutes in VTOL VR and you'll see what this game *could* and *should* have been. It's truly a shame.
i cant recommend this game as it is. it runs very poorly on my 3080. the controls are also not what you expect in VR, i guess they did their best to port pointnclick 2D controls to VR. what you are left with is a poorly running, clunky, very slow paced game. if you have a 4080 or better and dont mind clunky ported controls, go for it. otherwise i would steer clear or play it on the flatscreen. what a pitty.
Don't get me wrong, the game is not bad at all. The only issue is the price tag. As fun as it was to play, it's just not worth it at all. If they were to lower the cost of the game, they would get tons of new players, and i would feel way better about playing the game.
the handling is frustrating unintuitive and in vr the game is practically unuseable. wont recommend if that doesnt get better...
there are a lot of good vr games nowadays but this aint it
Was hesitant to buy the game because the reviews are mixed. But the game turned out to be surprisingly pleasant. Yes the controls are a little crooked, but it's acceptable.
