After having played it through, this game has such a delightful story! The metaphors it contains go deep, and are refreshing to experience. The game mechanics, while simple, are wonderful. I would love to see the developers take these concepts and build an even longer game/ experience in the future!
Cards of Heart is a card-battler rpg game about recognising, confronting, and learning to live with the deep anger and despair of perceived past failures and disappointments (represented by "shadow monsters") - all wrapped up a tale of a tiny settlement and its few inhabitants. The grief-stricken main character is barely living her young life, when a literal beacon of light appears to act as her spiritual guide. I'm not a regular player of rpg games and hence not a very successful one when I try, and so I don't often choose to play them... well, you can see the circular cause and effect! But, hand on heart, I can say that I have learned more about managing & balancing a deck of attack and defence cards, and utilising special skills, etc, in this game, than in any other I've tried. The main character obtains a basic set of cards before the first "battle" with a shadow monster, and additional cards are crafted by performing kind and helpful errands for her neighbours before three further battles. Failure in battle is not final - it can be repeated after a short period of emotional healing which includes an upgrade of one card to help the player next time (or the game can be saved immediately before a battle and reloaded if the battle is lost). I really liked the game's characters, art, and mini-stories which emerge in the errands (of which there are 24 if you find them all; you must keep talking to all of your neighbours, and visiting places on the small map, or you may easily miss some, as I did on my first playthrough). And the ending is more satisfying for being
somewhat bitter-sweet and thus realistic
. Well done to the developers.

A fun game, but the main character can be a bit annoying at times. The combat system is good, but there are only four fights in the game, and it can be a bit all or nothing, since your life bars act as stats, so if you get hit, you will lose access to your more powerful cards.
What a beautiful game, thanks to all the creators and support staff! I enjoyed it a lot :)
This was exactly the right game, at the time when I needed it. I downloaded it on a whim after seeing it while searching for something else, and what a wonderful, special surprise it turned out to be.
nice game!
A fun little deck builder with a good message on mental health. I enjoyed cheering Amalia on.
Eu gostei desse jogo.
This was a fun game to play! The story is endearing, the combat is strategic and thoughtful, and overall it was very enjoyable. It's a nice angle on tackling mental health challenges as well. The music and sound design were also very well done. Definitely recommend for a fun short game!
