I want to like this game; I really do, but I just can't. Looking at this game and not knowing if you should get it? Read this review before buying! This game is a mess. No, I don't mean this in a harsh way; I mean this in the way that the game is just so poorly laid out and doesn't make sense to first time players. I've played this game for probably an hour by now, and I still don't know what the flippin' hell I'm doing in it. The menus are littered with options to do, the crafting menu is laid out so poorly that I don't know what to do and the quests are so badly done that I often wonder what the point of them even are. They seem like they're just there for no reason because they're damn near impossible to do. This game has so much potential, and I can really feel it. It's just the execution that's been so poorly done that I can't recommend it. The fact that the game is based around using items to craft things into power-ups and making yourself stronger seems really unique. That's something I cannot deny and nor would I want to. That idea alone seems like sheer brilliance if they could pull it off correctly and make it into a successful idea that actually keeps players invoked in what's going on and the vibe the game's trying to make. The crafting concept of this game is where it also lacks; some items (to the best of my knowledge!), are no better than other items. What I mean by this is that items feel like they're no different than another. An item with the claim of being "legendary" could be no more than an item classed as "baby," which is kinda disappointing for obvious reasons. The fact that this game could have done so much more with this (like higher tier items giving you more towards the next upgrade), and just seem like a higher part of the game. I despise the enemies names in this game. Most of them seem like lame, forced memes which make me physically cringe. For an example, one of them was "Anime Duck," like come on now, I understand that anime is something that many people enjoy, but I myself am not a person who enjoys it or anything that is to come out of it. The names would be better if they also weren't so generic. Like, come on "vomit-inducing goblin" is just so unoriginal and uncreative. Maybe something like "Plague-Spewing Orc," would be slightly better. The screen regions in this game are really bad, I hope you're ready for a small, cramped screen which only allows you to see about 80% of what the items say. This is bad because I want to be SEEING what I'm doing in the game - I have naturally bad eyes so having to strain my eyes to see the screen makes me feel like I'm being forced into looking at the screen and the, as I mentioned before, unfunny, forced memes. If the screen region options actually worked, I would be 100% fine with this. I do realise that this game is in Early Access but that is in no way, shape or form an excuse for the sheer lack of effort and forced jokes which come from it. Early Access is not an excuse for someone to put a game onto the store and "fix it later" because that shows a lack of effort and actually wanting to do it. No one wants to play a game that seems forced and no one wants to play a game which has no effort of showing the player what to do. I currently can't recommend this game at all, but if someone was to update it and fix it to make it somewhat playable, this review will change and I might recommend it. But for now, I can't recommend this game. [b]Enjoy the review? Please consider checking out my curator! I recommend games like this one, but not this one. After playing this game for quite a bit, I've got to say it's quite enjoyable. Definitely a roguelike (not a fake, free-roaming one, but an actual turn-based, punishing, strategize before-hand one), and an enjoyable one at that. Don't expect to walk in and start killing everything, because chances are if you're new to the genre (or even a bit experienced like myself), you'll still die a dozen times before you get the hang of it. Learning it is easy enough; mastering it is quite difficult. One of the things I really enjoyed was having dungeons created based off the files I chose from my folder. That said, there's room for improvement UI and bug fixing-wise; the game crashes a bit as of this build, so you'll want to save a lot just in case anything goes wrong. I'm looking forward to the development of this game.
I wanted to like this game, I really did -- the concept looks promising and fun! However, sadly, I must write the first negative review for this game. What lets the game down for me breaks down into a few points: a) A non-intuitive initial start to the game. It took me quite a while to actually work out how to progress into a dungeon. Seeing my files displayed with no information about how they are being used made me initially think that it was asking for a map file that it could load -- as in a file with a specific extension that I would need to download from somewhere. b) A list of controls that seems to be outright wrong. For example, 'A' is supposed to be an action button, but mine was P. Also, not only do the arrow keys control movement, but so does the mouse, WASD and IJKL, leading to utter confusion when combined with controls that don't do what you expect. c) An inventory system that seems, for the most part, broken. Supposedly, weapons and armour are equipped automatically. However, I never once saw the icons at the top of the screen show anything other than zero. The items you pick up in dungeons seem to have no associated wealth, so you cannot determine which items to keep and which items to get rid of when sacrificing items - a key concept of the game. d) There appears to be no mute option whatsoever. e) There's a lot of bugs in the current state. I encountered a fair few crashes and graphical errors. My favourite was learning that if you click the 'Escape' button multiple times without choosing loot to sacrifice, the window for loot selection will move to the right with each click. If you do it enough, it will move completely off the screen and make escape impossible. It *is* possible to cancel the menu, but I had to press almost every key on my keyboard before working out which key actually equates to 'Cancel' -- it isn't B, as stated in the Help! Keep in mind that this is an Early Access review. The game is updated often, so I'm sure the developer will fix these issues before the final game is released!
StoryMode - A game about crashing I went into this game with high hopes. The user interface is clunky and the polar opposite of intuitive. The game tells you to press A, B, or C to do something. I get this is a reference to the actual control, and the game tells you the controls can be rebound at any time. What it doesnt tell you is what the controls are currently bound to so you have to go fishing in settings to even see that button A starts bound to the E key. Would it have been too difficult to add "Press A (Currently bound to: E)" in the tutorial? Like I said, polar opposite of intuitive. That alone would be a mild irritation and not worth a negative review. But then you start discovering that half the time the controls either dont even register, or do not behave as advertised. There is no "back" button, so for instance when you mistakenly press Q to summon the goddess to aid you in a dungeon, you cannot simply cancel the request, you have to click around randomly in the hopes the game will close the aid window. Which it eventually does. Sometimes. Aiming a spell at monsters appears to be a coinflip as well, as I have had several times when I have targeted a monster, cast a spell, only to have the spell fly off in another direction. Then the crashes start. A glance through the bug report forum shows how many players are having this problem(s). Start the game? Crash. Select a file to explore? Crash. Target a monster with a spell? Yup, crash. Use stairs? You guessed it. These are also all intermittant bugs, so any sense of risk or excitement in a dungeon crawl is reduced to "Is my next action going to crash the game and lose all my progress?" Now THAT is hardcore hardmode folks. I've seen players report such things on the forums, only to be told by the author they need to follow proper bug submission guidelines which include examining stack trace logs and noting all steps needed to reproduce the bug. This is not the job of a player, it is the job of a beta tester. StoryMode is marked as an early access title. Some bugs are to be expected. But this is not even playable in its current state. I paid for a game, not to join a public beta test. Anyone who wants to actually play a stable, enjoyable game is advised to look elsewhere. Bottom line: StoryMode has a good sense of nostalgia and humor, but is otherwise a bug ridden mess. The author claims the game is an homage to games gone by, except that those classics were thoroughly tested and polished before being released, and did not ask for players to do the devs job. Perhaps one day, with much community support, StoryMode will become more a game and less an exercise in community frustration. But that day is not today.
I went into my porn folder and killed Michael Bay. 10/10
MEH. This thing has been early access forever, and I suspect it's because it's unsalvageable. It's a neat conceit, but in practice it's just frustrating and makes you feel like it's not even worth bothering to restart. And I say that as someone who's beaten Nethack twice - that's a lot of f@#$in' restarting, but worth it. This isn't.
Brave란 커맨드는 A=Q, B=E, C=Tab 키다...
Impromptu review This review will develop alongside the game changes. 18/01/2016 pro: +funny names for monsters & items +find keys, nonetheless bash through doors not quite a con but could be considered as an issue: -When you attack the action is described as 'Adventurer attacked you for n damage'. cons: -the action button is not clear, nor the other two buttons. -crashes when I try to select the party menu -random crashes
Pretty fun game. Although it crashes from time to time, it is clever and stupidly fun. 8/10
I like this game, even if it's not perfect. I give praise, ,just want this game, do not do too bad Just because I like the style
