Very good and unique game but there is some jank. Gonna start with the jank and if you can live with this, there's literally no reason to not play the game. Game tells you to use a control but it's far better with keyboard and mouse, esepcially after you change some of the keybindings, like casting your main spell on left mouse button instead of scroll wheel.... The translation isn't the best. A lot of sentences seem weird and confusing to read. Also doesn't help that the story is very vague on top of that. Cutscenes and animations are also very jank, especially the camera angles (there are some very good ones as well though). To me it adds to the weirdness of the game but some might not like it. UI is also a bit of a mess but you get used to it after a while. More music would also have been nice, you'll be listening to the same one song in the starting area for quite some time Story is uuuuh....interesting? Nothing is ever fully explained and leaves a lot up to your imagination but I personally liked it. Just make sure to do every side quest as they are pretty interesting and adds a lot to the world building. It's pretty easy to finish the main quest (build a high tower) so make sure you do everything you want beforehand, otherwise the ending will make even less sense and feel underwhelming Tower defense part is pretty fun and I've never seen it used in a way such as this. It does get a bit samey after a while but each tower is placed on different terrain (on an open field or in a labyrinth like maze etc.) which helps making each one feel unique There's a surprisingly amount of platforming and it's pretty fun to figure out how to best use your spells to get more height, just wish there were more actual secrets to discover. So yeah, great game if you can stomach some jank

I genuinely hoped for a "hidden gem," especially for a $7 - $13 indie game on a major sale. Sure, the game has its merits. For instance, the dev created his own custom language, learned it, and voiced the game himself - that’s commendable. But he'd better have learned another programming language instead and made the controls less clunky. The game itself, unfortunately, is boring. The entire gameplay boils down to just climbing higher and dully chipping away at waves of mobs. The trailer tricks you by showing a dash mechanic that keeps things moving just fast enough to feel engaging, combining abilities, and stylishly wiping out enemies while a huge golem companion walks beside you.In reality, while this golem is supposed to be your core mechanic, its early-game efficiency is an absolute joke, lucky to hit maybe two out of ten shots. You yourself are just a slightly less pathetic disappointment, because your heavy attacks (which are the only way to clear a pack) have massive cooldowns. In the end, the game turns into a tedious hot mess of a Tower Defense, where your only "tower" is a cross-eyed golem with a cannon on its back. From what I gathered in the first 20 minutes, your entire skill and combat progression is stupidly tied to buying upgrades from the shop. It's just another grind for the sake of grind. If I wanted to endlessly farm garbage, I’d just play PoE. I expected interesting mechanics and a story, but all I got was a dragged-out chore.
One of the best action games I've played in years. It's flow and mindset are wholly unique, so give yourself time and leeway to learn the systems and feel of the verbs. After I'd established about 3 towers at their first or second level, I was hooked. Red Hot action, exhilarating speed, delicious progression, entirely fascinating world and characters. Play this game.
BURGGEIST is a treasure. It feels like an old, stumbled upon PS2 game that you saw at Blockbuster, but never picked up - 20 years later, it found its way onto Steam and here it is. I'll never tire of good games that feel like nothing else and this is very much that. It is its own game entirely and I love it for it.
An interesting game, though a bit rough around the edges. Primary mechanics involve loading up Burggeist with weapons and directing them to attack a point or enemy and also the ability for your own attacks to do more damage when falling from a significant height. Both of these have some issues. Burggeist operates pretty dumbly, so you either want to just have them constantly firing at a certain point on the ground that enemies will be walking (which gets kind of annoying to hear for it to be firing at nothing while you wait for an enemy to walk by), or you can be constantly actively managing retargeting enemies after Burggeist quickly kills each one. The latter option is only really good for stronger enemies. The height damage mechanic works, but positioning yourself somewhere high up where you can do more damage can be awkward. Game definitely becomes a lot better after you do enough sidequests to find and unlock one of the 2 abilities that gets you some vertical movement. Otherwise, I found the story/dialog/lore bits to be fairly enjoyable,
One of my best video game experiences recently. BURGGEIST blends third-person action with tower defense mechanics in a way that just feels so satisfying with all the cool movement options. But what truly sets this game apart is its atmosphere, something quietly haunting and dreamlike, where intriguing storytelling and melancholic worldbuilding let meaning seep through silence. It gave me the same feeling I got from Fumito Ueda's work. Play this hidden gem!
Burggeist is an incredible game and a testament to what Indie developers can do. It is an absolute steal for its current price, and absolute worth every penny. It has fascinating worldbuilding, and unique world feel, and in general it features wonderful characters. I went into this game expecting something special and it absolutely delivered. I completed every objective and achievement (actually completed every tower, too) and thoroughly enjoyed basically every moment. If you are at all interested, pick up this game. It truly is fantastic. The one thing I'll note (just in case, like me, you're concerned) is that all of the heretic lime foundations and sheep will respawn over time. Because of this, don't worry about hitting every single one or collecting every sheep. While there are certain unique items to pick up, enjoy the vibe more and exploring. It's what truly makes this game special. A definite tour de force and a strong, strong recommend.
BURGGEIST is a really fun game that reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus in some ways. The game is a wide open area where your goal is to build a tower, but you aren't likely to be able to do that immediately, though you can (and should) try. Instead, you should explore the map, trying out things and finding new areas and maybe even weapons to help you. This game is obscure, but it's such a unique and cool idea, that I recommend you play it on that merit alone.
It's been almost a year since I played through this game, and I still caught myself thinking about it randomly just now. That's how memorable it is. From the made up language, to the story, the spells, and the movement. God, the movement! It's not immediately clear how much of a thing that is, and it its admittedly down to playstyle a fair bit, but chaining gyromantia together to go fast and/or high is where the most joy lay for me. That my mastery of mobility gets rewarded in fights too is awesome! Your walking artillery pet is also unique as heck. Do not rush through the main story right away. It takes one tower to do that, but there are many places to build one. I recommend building all, or perhaps as many as you feel like. Not that I managed to finish all of them, some are purposely extremely hard. If anything about the visuals belies the level of polish the game has, don't be fooled – when you play it, the game will show you how much really went into every detail. Wait, they added stuff while I was gone? Hell yeah, time for a second playthrough!
Truly a unique experience and such a hidden gem. No game is like that.
