This feels like spyware. No starting menu, just dumps you into a mission. There doesn't appear to be an options menu so I couldn't change the resolution, and if there was a button to open the options menu then I wouldn't know because the text got eaten to below the screen. Who the hell approved this to be put on steam, as an unfinished title? Can I just upload my random itch.io student games here? Are we still allowing "Watching Paint Dry Simulator"s? Are we still dealing with "Towns" type of games, that are just put here unfinished without even being marked as Early Access? Hell I may as well upload some dog pictures and call it a Free to Play game, just to bog down the store even more. What a great way to make sure I never look at anything by this developer ever again.
pretty fun solo project my experience: i was looking for some Tower Defense and find this game, read info about development and then releasing for free to share with ppl. its really not my taste of graphics, but why not at least try it. 30MB? O_o ..oh my.. it will be bad and short, but lets give it a chance first level: ok, its not bad third level: this damn... ok, restart level and new strategy :) fifth level (or so): catapults, but why they are.. ah..rotate i had really fun! its actually pretty nice indie game its not something extra, but its worth it to try this combination of turn based strategy and tower defense

Build & Battle is a 2D retro pixel Tower Defense/Turn Based Builder hybrid that's been slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio video game construction kit from Yoyogames. The game was possibly copied from a template called "Strategic Defense" which is the real name of the game exe, but I couldn't locate the template. Regardless, the majority of GameMaker Studio "games" that are launched on Steam are just copies of templates/tutorials with a few things changed around, and not genuine games. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. The premise is novel here as you've got a turn based building phase and then a tower defense phase where the enemies move a little and your towers shoot a little, then you go back to build mode and have unlimited time to play around with towers and buildings. But what's the point? Why not just add a pause mode so players can adjust the game as they want, or none at all, as other tower defense games do? All it does is make a TD game somehow more casual than TD games aready are. Interesting idea, but not necessarily great. And not enough to save this from all the typical GMS failures. GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and unsurprisingly results in products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. Using a video game construction kit requires little to no talent or skill as a game developer. Very often, GameMaker Studio is used to make shovelware and lazy cash grabs, although in this case the game is completely free, it's not worth it.
3/10 An abandoned turn-based tower-defense game. Good: - the concept is actually great: you can build or upgrade several towers per turn, and enemy mobs move several tiles per turn along the winding path to your main building ("portal"). You can carefully directs shots of the turrets, see enemy hp, and plan - can select an enemy to quickly see which of your turrets will attack it next turn and if that's enough to kill it - can even select several turrets with a dragbox - different enemy types: some just run along the path, others stop to attack your turrets So-so: - graphics are pixelated and aren't nice at all, they look like placeholders Bad: - the game was abandoned in mid-development. It crash on me in level 4 where you get dinosaur-like cratures attacking your wall-towers in melee It's sad to see this project abandoned. I really like the basic idea of the game. It's still kind of playable until the first crash. I love this game so much!! 8,7/10 This game is a underrated masterpiece wish more people need to try out and support!! Let me go though the pro's and con's: PRO's -Amazing Art style that kinda reminds me of Age of Empire's when it first came out (1999) -It's a traditional Tower Defence type game -The game mechanics are really smooth and easy if you can adapt to it..(more on that later) the game will let you learn on your own -No in game purchases -Super Fun and rewarding, you feel real the progress when you succeed in a level -It's a underrated Masterpiece -it's free -Just try it! CON's -The game preforms a bit slower when at the main menu (I think it's because of the mist in the background the developer should maybe check on that) -Can't move the camera with the mouse normally only the middle scroller by your mouse and arrow keys to move (also clicking on the map like Age of Empire's but..that's not effective, I am fine with the arrow key's but would prefer the mouse) -The lack of a tutorial or a guide given won't help with first impressions of the game overall -I must admit it the music get's little tiring after a while Other than than that the game is truly entertaining and is a worth a try! :D ______________________________________________________________ **************!!(SECRET BONUS ADVISE)!!******************************************* Congrats you have unlocked BONUS ADVISE! To beat level 3 you need to play the previous levels again but don't complete!Because you need to build up AP (Action Points) which will really help you deal some damage in Lv 3. Also I would recommend saving to 100AP to be safe(It's probably possible without AP but it does help) and also when your starting Lv.3 don't immediately set up defence, you need wood and a-lot of it to build more structures (strategically of course) and finally be aware that you can upgrade your tower's up to Level 3 which will do more damage and will have a bigger range ******************************************************************************** ____________________________________________________________
