Interesting combination of rogue-like mechanics & tower defense
It has potential, a little rough on the edges, many improvements to be done with UI
Pretty interesting tower defense with roguelite ways to handle its game progression. You'll find yourself getting stronger by playing each game and reaching achievements, which will provide you additional bonuses to the next time you play and unlock additional features and choices to the game. Two of the major unlocks are the additional choices, the additional class, the Druid, and the additional map, the large map. As you keep playing, the game gets easier because you keep getting additional bonuses.
It's an ok tower defense game. Towers feel a little basic and I wish they defaulted to first instead of close targeting but it works. It uses extensive AI generated art, which I personally don't like. The classes feel very same-y, with the only difference between the starting one and the 2nd one being 1 tower (out of the 5 in the loadout) and the 2nd class has an extra spell. The exploring mechanic to get income is the most unique mechanic and I enjoyed it. Balancing looking for spots to build towers, resource nodes, or extending the path with the limited number of tile reveals per wave was generally a fun choice. Ultimately, I got the game on sale and feel I am getting my money's worth.
Really nicely balanced and innovative tower defence, just when I thought it wasn't possible to have new ideas in this genre. The business of exploring the map adds an interesting layer of strategy, while the roguelite elements help you experience progression. Tower upgrades are very expensive and absolutely essential, prioritizing these correctly is the key to victory. On my third attempt, I was able to achieve the basic victory, progression is now in terms of completing quests and unlocking classes (haven't unlocked a class yet). Perhaps the best thing about this one, compared to other roguelite tower defences, is that I've not had a loss that came from nowhere, that left me feeling angry with the game for witholding information or whacking me with a nasty surprise. Every loss can be traced back to one or more bad decisions on my part, which makes it easy to feel that I'm learning. And you don't get the 'cracking of the shell and you've gone from perfectly healthy to instantly dead' experience, either. Leaks always start small, and there's usually a pretty good opportunity to recover before it turns into a disaster.
Quite a bit of game for 8 bucks. I'm surprised by all the mechanics involved. Played through to wave 24 and attacked a lair, defeat. Finished a bunch of upgrade quests so my next run should be better/easier. Pretty fun take on the TD genre.
It's got some cool ideas to differ it but I like Emberward better
Nice take on a tower defense game. Solid play, sessions end up a comfortable length for single sitting. Graphics are pleasant. Doesn't take forever to unlock everything, I have 100% completion and have messed around for several for more sessions at 30 hrs, there's no reason to stop playing at unlock you just have everything. All that for around the price of a Starbucks.
A fun simple roguelite tower defense game. I like the way you explore the map and build your resources
