About
Boot Hill Heroes is the first episode in a game series that fuses elements of spaghetti western film - gunslinging outlaws, brave lawmen, and the untamed wilderness - with classic RPG storyline and gameplay. 90s console RPGs like Final Fantasy, Earthbound and Chrono Trigger created lasting memories and impacted us as gamers. Now, Boot Hill Heroes brings back those experiences while revitalizing the genre with a Wild West spin and innovative new gameplay elements.

The story and overall experience of this game is best enjoyed on the Steam Deck. It is a very good game to just play on the PC too as a wonderful tribute to the West, Earthbound, JRPGs and just good videogame storytelling. However, the game just feel "right" on the Steamdeck. Although playing this game on a big screen with friends is also fun once you unlock new party members your friends can actually control them in battle. I know a lot of RPGs have that function even though it is not widely used but more should. The written story in this game is extremely well crafted. I really like the thought put into the writing. It is also fun to play combat wise and the music was well composed.
Me gustó mucho el juego. Lo malo es que se siente demasiado corto (y tengo entendido que la secuela, Boot Hill Bounty es la que contiene más contenido, pero no sé si es la que define el final de la historia).
Only got a little time in it and already like it. Good game overall. 8.5/10
Boot Hill Heroes is a great choice if you're looking for a new indie old school RPG. I started backwards and played part 2, Boot Hill Bounties, before this game, and even though I knew what the main plot would be there were still a number of surprises and aha! moments that made some details of Bounties make more sense. Boot Hill Bounties(BHB) is definitely an improved and polished version of Boot Hill Heroes(BHH), but the BHH's gameplay was still engaging, had plenty of charm, and it was cool to see where BHB started. Another added bonus is that your save file from BHH can transfer to BHB and you can start the game with higher levels and Vantages learned.
Earthbound graphics, rest have nothing to do with earthbound. Not sure why they compare themself to Chrono trigger. nothing in common.
This game has no business, being as good as it is! I bought Boot Hill Heroes ages ago. It's been lingering in the darkest recesses of my library. I'm surprised, I was able to find it under all the dust & just as surprised, that I didn't contract a sinus infection, from blowing away said dust. For some reason I decided to fire this up & give it a rip. I'm so glad I did! BHH has so much character & charm. The characters are awesome, the story is spectacular, the world isn't huge, but the pacing helps mask that, the combat & skill system is a bit to get used to, but once you do, it's pretty good. The only real blackmark I'd give the game is due to a few achievements.
A lovingly crafted tribute to classics like the Mother series in particular, Boot Hill Heroes still manages to have its own identity with a unique battle system and fun, whimsical old west setting. This game's more or less a lengthy prologue to the bigger adventure to come, and well worth your time if you're into this sort of classic-style RPG.
Boot Hill Heroes is a rare gem, an RPG set in the wild west. A fantasy all it's own, it has a unique presentation that easily reminds me of Earthbound mixed with Chrono Trigger. The great things: - No Random Encounters (think Chrono Trigger, enemies are visible) - Time based combat system (very strategic, and surprisingly fast paced) - Excellent story - It's obvious the developer has done their research and thoroughly enjoys the history of the American West, and that shines through in the game's story. - Awesome soundtrack - Jake Kaufman's master touch on display here (Also composed Shovel Knight). The music is great, and the tunes as unique as the game itself. - Perfect 16 bit graphics - Top-knotch sprite design, and high quality maps and scenes make this game incredibly immersive. - Import your characters into the sequel, Boot Hill Bounties! - One of my favorite features, bring forth your characters and their stats and skills into the next game! Any hitches? - At 10 hours the game length is great for the price. There is a 1.99 DLC that extends the story after you reach the end. But the end kinda leaves off in the middle right where the story starts to really hit the prairie dirt running at all horses, and I was glad I had already picked up the sequel. So if you're going to pick this up, and you enjoy it, be prepared to grab the sequel because that 10 hours will go by quickly. tl;dr -- If you loved Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, or anything to do with the wild west? Stop what you're doing, drop the $8.99, grab your six guns, and play this damn gem of a game.
Great little game, Ive always been meaning to finish it but keeps getting put off. I even bought the DLC after the fact because it's worth it!
Utterly fantastic. Boot Hill Heroes tells a story in a classic western vein about a boy following in his father's footsteps and dealing with the past left behind. It is incredibly engaging and every bit you learn leaves you wanting to know more, accompanied by a great soundtrack (composed by Jake Kaufman) that sets the mood in every scene. The combat is also excellent, with an active battle system that leaves battles involved but not overly tedious. My only real complaints that the postgame is a pain to go through, and there are some technical issues too, mainly controller mapping not working and settings not being saved. Overall I would absolutely recommend it, though maybe on another platform if you can get it there.
