Bloom: RoR is a basic, fast-paced shooter with a ton of graphical glitches. The amount of missing textures I found was honestly pretty funny. The main menu buttons will stay selected even when your cursor isn't hovering over them. I had fun with this game, but it's not great. Also, the achievements and progression tracker are pretty broken. Still, it's worth trying out 5/10

free and fun little Heretic/Hexen inspired shooter made by college students
Recommendation: This is a fun cross between Catacomb Abyss (an FPS wizard using wands to fight enemies) and Quake (blocky 3D models, and jumping). Review: The levels are pretty large, with a fair amount of stuff to explore. The "secrets" are hard-to-reach/easy to overlook areas; there are no secret doors or fake walls, though areas that you need to traverse to continue the game are often not obvious, either. One area with what appeared to be ivy covering the entrance to a tunnel (you shoot the ivy to clear it away) stumped me for minutes because I couldn't find it. The game is fun, with periods of exploration interspersed with tense action sequences, any one of which could easily kill you. Your basic weapon, the green wand, can shoot really far and regenerates ammunition over time, but there is some random drift with each shot so it's not very accurate at long distances. The achievements are broken: you will get pop-ups that indicate achievements during the game, but none of them will show up in your profile. The weapon names don't appear in the game, so there's no clue as to what they do without shooting them, and even then it's not always clear how a weapon is different from the others. There's several similar little UI things that make me appreciate how much design work has been done for FPS games from the very beginning. Your only indication that you're getting hit is the number next to the red health mushroom decreasing; there's no flash or noise as you are hit. In a scrum with a lot of enemies, where I was busy enough with the fight that I couldn't look down at that number, I was often surprised when I died, because I thought I'd been dodging all their fire. When you duck back through a door and wait for the enemies to come through so you can shoot them, the enemies will usually move through the walls on either side of the opening to attack you from an unexpected direction. Enemies with ranged weapons fire extremely quickly, their missiles moving so fast that you cannot dodge them, which is compounded by the fact that you only see the missiles when they've almost reached you and you're facing toward them. Missiles disappear when they hit a wall without any impact animation. There's nice music in the game, but very little in the way of sound effects. The radius of explosions is a lot larger than the explosion animations lead me to expect, making me very cautious about using any explosive weapons, as I almost always think I'm far enough away but then I still take a bunch of damage when something in the distance explodes. You don't know how much ammunition you have for a weapon before you switch to that weapon. In part because this makes me appreciate other FPS game, Bloom is well-worth playing for a while, but in another part, it's also a fun game. I really enjoy the exploration, the fights are always tense, and there's a lot of content to experience, not even considering that it's a free game.
Short & Sweet
I love the diversity of this game so much. I really feels like an adventure. I definitely recommend this game to anybody.

"Bloom: Roots of Renewal" is a student project from... somewhere... it's supposed to be a "study" of boomer shooters but it fails to hit the right spot that boomer shooters should. The retro low poly graphics come off as inauthentic and general lack of polish and optimisation make this somewhat unpleasant to play... and part of the whole retro appeal with boomer shooters is they should run smooth as butter, unlike the way those games first ran on our old potato PCs, before we got jobs and had more money than time. The theme for the game is weird, too... I don't think what Quake and HeXen lacked was a more botanical theme. Why is this fun, exactly? In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 11 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.
"Еретик" для самых маленьких. ачивки глючные.
