Small scale survival horror done right. I had high hopes for this and was not disappointed. I'm very impressed with the level of polish on this little game. Everything runs super smoothly and responsively. It gets quickly into the gameplay with that oh so familiar loop of gradually delving into a dangerous environment, collecting supplies and dodging or fighting off shadow monsters as you plan your routes and look at maps to get your bearings. The map, the UI, the movement - it all feels really good. The game works great on controller too, after a much appreciated early update. Combat is tense and the game does a great job of forcing snap decisions on the regular between fight and flight, never letting you feel too powerful. Enemy corpses can be burned away with limited craftable resources, secrets scattered throughout the mansion unlock both lore and upgrades - it all just flows really smoothly. Things it does differently are pretty up front - mostly the camera and visuals. Camera control is pretty straight forward and manually swung to the left or right, and that's it. It's nice and responsive. There are 2 control schemes for aiming, the default being manual (which works better for mouse and keyboard) and the alternative method feeling much more natural to me with a controller. There's not really a whole lot of story being told here, but the quality of writing found in the notes is better than that found in most of the more popular titles in the genre. I really don't have much in the way of complaints here, aside from wishing it were a little bit longer actually - I think the length is actually probably right for the game, it's just really fun and I ended up wanting more...guess I'll just...play it again and try to figure out the secrets that I missed. That said - although the map works great (better than most indie survival horror titles), a little more detail would have been helpful (marking of unsolved puzzles, if a staircase or ladder leads up or down, that sort of thing), and also the rooms don't always fully fill out on the map unless you go right into each corner, which can make the map look a bit choppy. Might be nice if they filled out just a tad more easily - purely aesthetics really, but like I said, mostly this all just runs really nicely. Overall - this game is fantastic and I can't wait to see more from this developer. I really hope more people check this one out, it's absolutely worth full price. Gamebreaking bug. My character is frozen in place when I load up my save. Can go through inventory and files but cannot do anything else. 1.5 hours of my life and 10 bucks I'll never get back. This is the first time I've been a victim of a gambreaking bug like this and my first review. Awesome
And yet ANOTHER survival horror game for 2025, and seemingly I am one of… maybe 3 people that have played it? But I was pretty instantly drawn in to the isometric pixel art inside a 3D environment (with a fully rotatable camera!) look, as well as the sleek UI. I am happy to report that the game fully delivers on a classic survival horror experience, though it’s a bit too meager to be one of the greats. It pretty much checks all of the boxes - limited inventory, strategic combat, puzzles, backtracking, a solid map, and a mysterious haunting story. There are not a ton of puzzles, but the ones that are here are creative and fun. Combat is a little janky, as managing the aiming with the camera controls (which kind of overlap) leads to occasional frustration. And while the 2.5D art style is done very well, the monochromatic color palette and somewhat repetitive interior design gets a bit stale. That said, for a 2 hour long survival horror experience, you can find a lot worse. It’s not one of the best this year but I definitely recommend picking this one up as a little palette cleanser. Looking forward to hopefully a more ambitious project from the dev next. Please go give this game some love, it absolutely deserves more attention than it got.
Not the longest game ever, but it really hit the spot
