Blon is a surprisingly engaging endless runner with more content and depth than the genre is typically known for. Despite being a mobile port, it's still worth your time. The core trappings are still here: clever level design, catchy music, and slick-yet-accessible presentation, but there's a lot more going on here than initially meets the eye. Numerous playable characters, upgrade paths, gear, and a few mobile loot chest-style mechanics are all found here, and despite their seeming abundance, all work fairly well together. In addition to the standard endless runner levels, there are multiple boss fights at predetermined segments in each, which consist of dodging enemy attacks while shooting projectiles at said bosses, a-la twin stick shooter. It's a nice reprieve from the standard gameplay and adds some excellent variety into the mix. If you're at all interested in endless runners, do yourself a favor and pick this up. It's cheap, anyway!
Fun little game. Plays well, largely intuitive, and visually appealing. The blobs are cute. I completed all the levels on the normal difficulty in just under 6 hours - I'm sure this can be done much faster! I didn't spend all 6 hours just on the normal levels. Completing levels unlocks different modes and difficulties which add depth and replayability, giving you extra goals to work towards beyond just completing each level. Each level has it's own gimmick, some more challenging than others, but all quite easy to get to grips with. I like that the bosses have unique abilities. Nothing too challenging in the normal modes and boss abilities are generally quite easy to understand. A few require a bit more thought and experimentation to figure out. There's quite a large skill tree. It definitely made my blob stronger, but I didn't feel like it impacted my play style until quite deep into it, and even then the impact wasn't significant. I mostly just felt like I hit harder and was harder to kill - which was helpful! There are a variety of pickups that appear during levels which you can also level up through the skill tree, but I found them more distracting than anything else. There are equipment items to unlock by completing levels and hitting certain thresholds, as well as different characters who have different starts. I've only got a few of each of these so far, so definitely not necessary to beat the game on normal, but I'm looking forward to trying to collect them all. I can see myself sinking a fair bit of time into this. If you like side-scrolling platformers, this is worth picking up, especially considering how well it's priced (£3.99 at time of writing).
Pretty decent little mobile port to pass time, very unique little abilities and gimicks each stage, surprised by the power up page and how big it was.
Worth the price
Not bad for the price.I could stand to have something other than Kevin Macleod music but it still works. I feel the boss time limits just force you to use the skill path,i'd remove that. The gimmicks are pretty fun in each level except the stalactite one, that one is annoying. The game is pretty challenging so keep that in mind. It's like a different take on Geometry Dash
Blon, developed by Lazy Kiwi and published by PID Games and Dear Villagers, is a colorful 2D platformer that blends retro sensibilities with light RPG progression and a family-centered narrative. At first glance, it embraces the familiar foundations of classic side-scrolling adventures—running, jumping, defeating enemies, and collecting items—but it gradually reveals more depth through character upgrades, multiple playable family members, and a structured world progression system. The result is a platforming experience that feels nostalgic in presentation while incorporating modern design elements that encourage exploration and replayability. The story centers on Blon, a determined and resilient blob-like protagonist on a mission to recover treasures stolen by his older brother. This simple premise provides emotional grounding without overwhelming the gameplay. As Blon journeys across diverse landscapes to reclaim what was taken, the narrative unfolds through environmental progression rather than heavy dialogue. The family dynamic subtly motivates the adventure, framing each victory as not just a gameplay milestone but a step toward restoring something meaningful. The tone remains lighthearted yet purposeful, reinforcing the whimsical charm that defines the game’s atmosphere. Gameplay revolves around traversing multiple biomes, each introducing unique hazards and visual themes. From volcanic regions filled with lava and fire-based enemies to icy landscapes that test precision movement, each environment offers its own mechanical twists. The platforming is responsive and forgiving enough for newcomers, yet layered enough to reward mastery. Timing jumps, dodging projectiles, and adapting to environmental obstacles require steady reflexes, especially as stages increase in complexity. Hidden collectibles and optional challenges encourage players to thoroughly explore each level rather than simply racing to the endpoint. One of Blon’s defining features is its progression system. Throughout the journey, players gather collectible leaves and resources that contribute to upgrading abilities and restoring the family’s castle hub. These upgrades are not merely cosmetic; they expand Blon’s capabilities, granting new movement options, combat enhancements, or magical abilities. A talent tree allows players to tailor upgrades to suit their preferred approach, whether focusing on survivability, agility, or offensive strength. This light RPG layer adds a satisfying sense of growth, making earlier obstacles feel more manageable when revisited. Boss encounters punctuate the adventure at key intervals, acting as climactic tests of skill. Each biome culminates in a confrontation with one of the brother’s lieutenants, requiring players to study attack patterns and use abilities strategically. While not overly punishing, these battles introduce a welcome shift from standard platforming, demanding patience and precision. Successfully defeating a boss reinforces the feeling of progression and strengthens the narrative arc of reclaiming stolen treasures. Another layer of replay value comes from the availability of multiple playable family members. Each character possesses distinct strengths and weaknesses, offering different approaches to traversal and combat. Some may excel in mobility, while others are more durable or capable of unique magical attacks. This variety encourages experimentation and revisiting earlier levels with fresh strategies. The inclusion of unlockable weapons and equipment further diversifies playstyles, adding customization without overcomplicating the core mechanics. Visually, Blon embraces a pixel-art style that channels the spirit of classic platformers while maintaining clarity and vibrancy. Environments are colorful and distinct, helping players quickly identify hazards and interactive elements. Character animations are smooth and expressive, reinforcing the game’s playful tone. The soundtrack complements the action with upbeat tracks that adapt to different biomes, supporting both exploration and high-intensity moments. Though it does not aim for photorealism, the cohesive art direction creates a memorable aesthetic identity. While the game shines in its charm and accessible design, it is not without minor imperfections. Some players may notice occasional combat inconsistencies or areas where level design feels less refined. However, these moments rarely detract significantly from the overall experience. The platforming fundamentals remain solid, and the gradual introduction of abilities helps maintain engagement over time. Ultimately, Blon succeeds as a heartfelt and mechanically satisfying indie platformer. Its combination of classic side-scrolling gameplay, light RPG progression, varied biomes, and replayable character options gives it substance beyond surface-level nostalgia. By blending accessible design with meaningful progression and charming presentation, it delivers an experience that appeals to both longtime fans of 2D platformers and players seeking a light but rewarding adventure.
