Blocky Ascent is pretty fun and relaxing in the learning phase, and it offers good levels of frustration mixed with satisfaction, even early on. Also got to experience a good amount of stomach churning when getting close to the edges in the learning phase, that was scary stuff lol In the beginning, it can feel a bit limited in terms of assets/colors, but progressively, as you make it further - you're facing more and more new mechanics/obstacles. Not gonna spoil too much here, but after a good amount of time, I started noticing how the colors are used in a very clever way. Good job to the developer(s)! I'm a big fan of the functionality of the save-feature in this game. Everytime I have closed the game mid-run, I almost get "surprised" to start the game back up and not be in the spawn. You end up at the exact same height as you were on when closing the game, which is not something I see often in this genre, and especially in smaller titles. It surpassed my expectations for a game in the parkour/platformer genre. Gameplay is highly addicting once you get the hang of it. I don't remember the last time a game made me THIS hungry to go for more after failing a run when making it deep. Now, it does not seem very realistic to buy this game and complete it, it gets insanely difficult towards the ending, just something to consider. I can reveal that the end screen is very well done, I got touched by the message of the end screen and I didn't even reach it by fair play. This game is amazing! It's the perfect way to unwind and relax. Yes, it can be frustrating to fall all the way down, but it's so rewarding when you finally reach the top! The difficulty starts off easy and gets more and more challenging the higher you go. In the end, you really have to watch your step, but that's what makes it so satisfying! The art style is minimalistic and fits the background soundtrack perfectly. You can really feel that the game designer put a lot of thought into it! Overall, this is the perfect little game for anyone who wants a fun little evening challenge!

I don't mind falling because the movement is oily smooth and the level design is incredibly complex and thought through. It is definitely worth an experience.
Blocky Ascent Review

Gameplay
Blocky Ascent has been one of the more challenging games I've played in the recent years; and although it's very frustrating and rage-inducing at times, it's extremely rewarding once you finally complete a section. The gameplay is very reminiscent of Minecraft Jump and Runs, with smooth jumps and soothing visuals.
Visuals
Although simple, the visuals are striking in a very soft and relaxing way, making the hard gameplay a lot more enjoyable.
Soundscape
Relaxing music, soft tones, the perfect accompaniment for a challenging game. It's a great game—quite challenging, but really fun to play. The speedrun aspect is very interesting, with plenty of shortcuts to explore.
Very simple yet challenging game. This is the kind of game that you try a few times, get frustrated because you do silly mistakes, then try again and again until you succeed. It can get very addictive once you get the hang of it! There's only one gameplay mechanic : jumping, but the presence of multiple special blocks is what makes the game interesting, especially towards the second half of the level. There are intended shortcuts that you have to find yourself. Some are obvious, but you'll get scared to try them, some others are harder to find. This makes the game very competitive in speedrunning, and is usually the essence of that game genre. If you're looking for a challenge, you're going to like it!
