I can't recommend it in it's current state. Pros: -Nice dark atmosphere (if you like that) -The art style is interesting. Cons: -Lots of unfair situations, where you just get slaughtered. Pretty hard difficulty overall, even on "easy". -Mass attacking of enemy soldiers without pause in most levels (some may like it, e.g. "Call of Duty" fans - i do not) -Absolutely linear. You're practically walking through tubes most of the time. -Bugs (Weapons cannot be picked up anymore or they disappear from the inventory, player gets stuck in objects, panzer artillery in the 1st map hits the player everytime - no matter what) -No instand kill headshots possible with most weapons. Enemies are taking 2-3 hits in the head. -Friendly soldiers tend to run into players line of sight while shooting. -Not very detailed and very bland environments. -Very short. Felt more like a long demo than a full game. All in all i was more annoyed than i had fun, so this is a thumbs down for me. If you're still eager to buy it for some reason, i would recommend to wait until it's priced 5 $/€ or less.
Really Fun, but pretty short FPS. Guns feel satisfying to use, mission objectives are varied and fun, and there's even some boss battles in the mix. Graphics: Solid, but one complaint I do have is that the game looks a bit too grainy and sharp for my liking. Sound: Decent, guns are pretty satisfying to hear for the most part, and even though there is a lack of hitmarkers visually, there is still an audio cue that plays when you hit your enemy, so you are almost never confused whether or not you are hitting your target. Sometimes this sound plays when teammates are being shot or shooting an enemy so it can sometimes be a bit confusing, but it's a super minor gripe. Music for the most part is really solid, although I didn't think the music that went with the last mission was very fitting (Minor gripe). Overall good sound. Gameplay: For the most part it is really solid. Like I said earlier guns are really satisfying to use and there's a decent amount to try out. I just wish ammo for the less common weapons showed up a bit more. The game does have a bit of an issue with difficulty. Sometimes the game is pretty easy, other times it is really hard, basically any time a tank is involved the difficulty takes a bit of a spike. Another thing is that the game is pretty short. It only took me about an hour to get through the game. The ending however was pretty satisfying, although the screenshots kinda spoil it. While it is short it is really fun still, besides those tank related objectives. Overall I would recommend the game, just be cautious of some of its issues. 6.5/10
BLOCKADE War Stories is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unity asset store packs, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers. This one looks a lot like they took Hardworkers UnitZ/Unet Unity Asset Store packages and dumped a bunch of filters on them. Regardless, they haven't credited anyone for any assets, and they're known asset flippers (see below). Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. Novalink have a known history of trying to scam people into paying them money for someone else's work, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. One example of Novalink doing this is Dead City, which is really the "POLYGON Apocalypse - Low Poly 3D Art" asset, written by the actual developers, Synty Games. Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. For starters it's a buggy mess... you'll get stuck on terrain and so on very quickly. The game features lazy low-polygon voxel "Minecraft"-like "art", making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. A lot of amateur developers see Minecraft's success and assume it's because it looks bad, not because it had unique and appealing game mechanics, and they try to emulate the success without understanding it. It also happens to be easy, and doesn't need any proper talent in terms of game development/graphic artists etc. That's why reviewers are faced with so many of these terrible games with confrontingly bad graphics. Developers must learn that Minecraft succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. It is worth noting that the asset flipper does appear to have put some effort applying a bunch of filters to other people's uncredited assets... and some effort into assembling some kind of workable game (but not much). That doesn't excuse their other assset flips or the way they are trying to claim credit for the work of others here... there's not enough game here to be enjoyable for gamers. It's hard to describe this as a sincere effort to make a game... a familiar story if you've reviewed as many asset flips as I have. Buyer beware, as always. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 8 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. BLOCKADE War Stories has the cash grab price of around $7 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk. For comparison, the $7 asking price for this game could get you games like "Civilization VI", "DOOM" or the Tomb Raider remake. Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. There's also thousands of free, superior quality games on Steam.
What I liked about the game: Nice animations, menacing gun sounds and great ragdolls physics Dislikes: Overheats PC fast and poorly optimized performance. The enemies breed like mice, they don't stop coming til you're out of ammo, and no time to reload at all. Mouse sensitivity is wonky and inconsistent. Felt like mouse smoothing was turned on, same with Blockade 3D. Sometimes story can't progress because the Ally's navigation was blocked by something Don't really recommend now.
