Colorful, fun, energetic... a balance of wave shooter action with a hint of tower defense strategy. I was also able to play seated... which is helpful for longer play sessions.
The style of the game is really cute, and all of the levels are cute too. I hope to see more VR games from the studio soon!
Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/OQHyMX88PeE This is a 180 degree stand still (or seated) wave shooter with some Tower Defense elements. There are currently 5 levels, plus a tutorial and and endless wave level. Finishing the main campaign took me about 45 minutes. I did like the colorful art-style and the lovely underwater worlds with a variety of sea creatures. It would be perfect for kids, if the gameplay were fine-tuned for them and the game had more polish. As is though, I can't really recommend this game to anyone. The wave shooter element is too basic and the TD elements lacks any depth. It feels like you're just randomly shooting fish in a barrel versus using any real strategy. Yes, there are a variety of enemies. Unfortunately, many of them are bullet sponges. Yes, you have different types of "towers" you can build. There are even power-ups for your Blobkin gun (blobkins are the cute things you shoot). Blobkins have to collect trash to build and you basically have to shoot them at trash to get enough trash. You have to protect the Blobkins to have enough ammo and to be able to collect resources as well. None of those different elements come together in a cohesive manner though. I was able to beat the game just by randomly shooting. It never felt like building anything other than the cannon was worth it. Game is running on the Unreal Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting a steady 90 fps for the most part, but I did experience some stutters. There are no options or settings. I did experience a few bugs. The biggest game-breaking bug was fixed by the devs, but then I faced another one. At least I was able to complete the game, but unfortunately, not even the boss fights were interesting enough to save the game from being mostly bland to play. Rate 4/10. Kids may like it for like 30 minutes..
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. I'm a long time VR player spanning back to the Oculus DK2 and have played a lot of games over the years. This is a well polished wave shooter. I actually bought this for the kids (8 and 5) and they love it. Bit tired of zombies or modern day combat shooters so I loved the art direction taken here you can definitely tell a lot of passion went into making it. I'd really love to see a Quest version one day and also some kind of multi player coop. Absolutely Worth a try!
A really great, polished, stylized shooter. I'm 2 hours in and still plenty more to play. Each level is themed and I think there's a good amount of replayability here to keep topping your old scores.
Fun little tower defense shooter. It took me a second to figure out the controls (I always forget about the grip button lol), but once you've got it going and the waves of enemies start rolling in, it's super fun! Really chaotic, and the bosses and enemies are unusual and cool. Sometimes I wish the gun fired faster but I think that's part of the challenge, you have to aim at where they're gonna be, not where they are when you shoot. Also- if you rally the blobkins at your feet they're a lot easier to defend, the fish come right up in your face and then they're easier to hit. Lastly I'm suspicious of our little friend who leads us thru the levels, does he know something we don't?? lol.
One of the best waves
The first REAL 'wave' shooter 😜 (because your underwater) But it's actually really well made, polished, colorful, creative, and pretty fun. If it looks like something you'd like, that it will not let you down.
