Space adventure
Lots of solar systems, ships and missions.
STORY
Written by interacting with the world.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is a space simulator. We fly on our ship, we carry out tasks. You can get credits, improve the hull of the ship. There are enemies and a combat system. I didn't like it - too inconvenient to control the ship. Consider the pros and cons of the game, sum up.
PROS:
+ Simple but nice graphics. + Good music and sound accompaniment. + Many different solar systems. + Interesting ship armament, many types of ships.
CONS:
- Management seemed uncomfortable. Keybinding is not included.
CONCLUSIONS
The game looks very good. It can be difficult to manage. Personally, I couldn’t cope, but I won’t spoil the assessment, maybe it’s just me who is so crooked. BlazeSky is described as a space opera action RPG. It is developed and published by Double Robot. In the game, you play as the pilot of a BlazeSky FTL starship on the mission to explore and save the galaxy overrun by hostile alien creatures. BlazeSky is now available on Steam in Early Access with support for 9 different languages including Chinese, Spanish, and French! In BlazeSky, you pilot a starship. This starship can explode if you take enough damage. The bar at the top shows your ship’s health (red portion) and how much shield protection you have (purple portion). Regeneration is pretty fast so if you’re ever being attacked, just circle the enemy until your health and shield regenerate. In addition to shooting the starships, you can also shoot and destroy the bullets that the enemy sends your way. If your starship does explode, no big deal, you just respawn again. The missiles/bullets can be shot when the arrow keys (default) are pressed. The new update has mouse support so now you can right click on the mouse to fire bullets. I really like this feature because it was really hard to aim bullets at enemies before. Another cool thing is that Terrans or ally starships will help you fight off the enemy ships if they are close enough or you can bring the enemy ships to them as the enemy does chase after you. The graphics of the different star systems are extremely nice. With the update, you can now toggle HUD visibility which basically means that you can go into picture mode and take advantage of the incredible graphics. Activating the Hyperdrive, you can travel to multiple star systems. Each time I explored a star system, I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by how pretty everything looks. Green isn’t my favorite color but wow the Janus star system looks incredible. The devs weren’t kidding around when it came to graphics. New star systems open as you explore more of the galaxy. You can visit Sol and Hope to upgrade your starship’s weapon, shield, and even change the appearance of your starship. Of course, no upgrading is free as you need to spend credits. Credits can be obtained by completing missions and destroying the enemy ships and comets/rocks. Basically, anything that has a health bar can be destroyed to gain credits. As you complete more missions and destroy more alien starships, you gain research points. The more research points you have, the more information you gain about the alien races and the more items you can unlock. Throughout the game, you can interact with the NPCs of each star system located in the Terran Republic and obtain missions. By interacting with the NPCs, you can gain certain personality points based on the choices that you make (as seen by the certain icons associated with each choice). With the update, the keys associated with each option are a little bit more readable, however, the last option has 3 keys associated with it. To me, it’s nice but not necessary. Plus, it’s hard to read the keys aside from the one indicating space. I think it’s a really cool feature that you can develop your own personality based on the choices that you make. With the update, we can now understand what the personality icons mean! I also like the revamped mission log page. It would be cool if we could hot key the mission log to pull it up faster but that’s not a big deal. I really enjoyed the music and the sound effects in BlazeSky. I especially liked that whenever I went to the Sol star system, I could slightly hear the voices of other ship captains in the background. I’ve never been in a spaceship before but it seems like something that you would hear often if you were in one. With the update, an orange outline will appear around the spaceship that is talking which I thought was pretty cool. The update seems to have brought voice acting to all the characters now. One thing that I didn’t really like about the game is the motion. The turning motion for the starship made me dizzy while playing the game but the good thing is that the action camera can be turned off which allows the movements/turning to be less dramatic. I’m not sure if this is a bug, it might have been just my computer because I didn’t see this on other playthroughs, but when I was playing the game, whenever I used the Hyperdrive to go to another star system, all the text seemed to have disappeared until I hard quitted the game and restarted. It made me frustrated but I think it was just my end.
I highly recommend this game! Let me list the positive things I like most about it first: 1. Graphics - WOW - this game looks gorgeous and has a ton of new visuals as you explore the map 2. Nonlinear gameplay - there are a lot of locations and stories to explore, uncover, and discover 3. Good difficulty balance - the game starts out with some innocent missions but they get more interesting, challenging and complex as the game progresses 4. Story and Voice Acting - Amazing! On the surface this game plays like Asteroids, but as you discover the stories of each of the quest givers and the intricate Sci-Fi world that the game is based in - each of the missions start to make more sense, have more purpose, and give you a sense of a grand Sci-fi vision! 5. Music and Sound - Also well done and well balanced As a game developer myself, I recognize how much love, effort and money went into the development of this game. No, it is not a game on the scale of Mass Effect or Jedi Fallen Order, but it does not try to be. It accomplishes fully what it sets out to do - give me, the player a fun story backed by a progressive arcade experience that becomes more challenging as I get better ships, tech, and weapons. It is not a good idea to judge this game against other big budget games in the genre, but rather for what it is and what it does well - and it does all of those beyond my expectations. For example, it is not a 3D space shooter like Wing Commander, but rather a forced perspective 2D shooter - imagine playing Asteroids in the horizontal plane rather than top down - then you get the idea and can have a ton of fun with it. This game does not disappoint - and keeps me on my toes always wanting to turn the next page of the story of the well acted characters I discovered so far - and I highly recommend it!
Space games are one of the easiest games to make, mainly because it is a huge wide universe and you have no idea what could be out there. This also leads to the issue that people will make what they like but fall shot in the face of games like Freelancer, the Wing Commander series, and Rebel Galaxy. The latter being what BlazingSky was aiming for but in truth the game is a glorified fetch quest with the potential of your soda can spaceship being ripped apart by a stray laser blast. Honestly, I would love to play this game even if it is a go here and come back kind of thing except that there is a lot of blinding flaws with it. https://youtu.be/By6_muora3I The whole game is voice and has lots of good audio and dialog but the character are 3D animated but are effectively wooden dolls that have no emotion or moving mouths. The controls are the most obvious problem being that the ship is only on a 2D plane with you controlling the pit and yaw of the steering but instead of having a throttle method of acceleration you have to awkwardly use the left thumb stick of a controller or the W or S to speed up and slow down. The sense of acceleration and your closeness to other object is off too, a marker will show where you need to go but by the time you come close to it you should have been decelerating 3 weeks ago and you usually fly right past your objective. Combat is crazy as well with the controls being confusing and not very intuitive to people that play other title similar to this, combined with it also is the lack of information as to what you are shooting and where to aim just puts it all together as a game that tried but not really hitting the mark. There are a lot of early access games out there and a lot of them are great even if they are a work in progress. I would like to say BlazingSky is amongst them but sadly it is a bit too broken with lot of flaws and lack of real interest that pulls me into the game. For $10 I would say give it a try but at almost $30 it’s a steep price for something that clearly need more work to be justify money
So, I played just under an hour of this game and here is what I did: Started in a system with zero indication to what I'm doing... okay Spoke to someone who gave me a mission Went to the system the mission was in then spoke to another person to get another mission Scanned 3 objects Rinse and repeat. Oh, I also blew up some asteroids to get some money. Found the debug console because it's super easy to find, so money became no real issue. Then I left. Can not recommend currently
It is a little pricey but the voice acting is solid, the environments look great and the soundtrack slaps. I would be much happier if I could remap the controls. I would also love for a little variety with the quests. Even Rebel Galaxy suffers from a bit of same-quest-itis and this is less diverse than that. Even so, this is pretty cool. https://youtu.be/OwQhhSZBPhs
While not perfect, the game is very well done from a mechanics standpoint. The story lines can be a bit janky at times and in its current state there are quite a few issues in the second half of the game where apostrophes and extra line breaks make the text less than ideal. At its core, this is a shoot-em-up space combat game on a two dimensional plane so more like driving than flying, but the visuals are interesting and the gameplay solid. Interested to see more development on this one.
Very fun game. It's a 3D game with 2D flight mechanics so it's easy to fly and fight. What amazed me about the game is the sound design. Have you ever "heard" what it's like to be in an asteroid field? There are game characters that you can interact with and get missions or you can fly around and play in the universe like a "sand box."
