Scrabble meets Balatro.
This may start out as a word game but once you hit the E-notation stage it becomes more of a math game. Some of the power cards are absolutely insane. And if you get lucky while shopping between rounds...duplicate, duplicate, duplicate...you can easily end up with a slew of very powerful cards. There are platinum trophies beyond the gold if you play endless mode. I didn't discover this until halfway through the levels and had to go back to complete the easier ones. Getting all platinum on every level was like beating every Balatro deck on gold stakes. And this game does have that Balatro feel for me. I'll probably go for some of the harder achievements now but what I really want are more levels. Or better yet a level editor that allows the sharing of designs between players.
Enough here to modify each run and make the game completely different. Very enjoyable. Well done
Real decent scrabble roguelike. I like the different shaped boards and the amount of cards/boosters to play around with even if some of the cards are so clearly overpowered. My main gripe is that the tutorial is a bit too broad and I would like it to go into more specifics (colored tiles, how each board can give you different letter tiles, etc), and also I would love for there to be a way to hover over a word to get a dictionary definition so I can understand how the game clocks certain abbreviations, and learn new words when I'm surprised when something was accepted lol. I like playing for 20 minutes at a time, it's perfect for that.
Very enjoyable game and quite different in its format. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars as some of The Boss rounds are very hard and sometimes make the round truly impossible, and you then can't progress. I don't mind rounds being hard, but making a round impossible is just frustrating and stops it from being fun. Otherwise, a great game.
Anita?
Balatro with a "scrabble"-skin. Which means luck plays a devastating part in whether you proceed or not. And roguelike on top of that. I destroyed a run with an incredible score using nothing but lazy 5-letter words and on another occasion got absolutely nowhere when using 7-letter words or higher. The latter because I only got cards supporting words with 2 or 3 letter words. Like balatro it was lot's of fun playing it for a few hours and then nothing but frustration later on. It's not a bad game, but roguelike + a ridiculous amount of rng feels like a waste of time (and potential) to me.
It could be good but gets too hard way too quick. Only get it at a discount.
I absolutely love Scrabble. Therefore, this game was very appealing to me. Scrabble receiving the Balatro treatment. And generally it works! However, it's not perfect, here are my pros and cons. Pros: * Satisfying to string together some huge combos with power cards and boosted tiles. * The game is challenging, requiring a nice combination of skill and luck to get the gold and platinum trophies. * Great game to pick up and put down if you only have 15-30 minutes to play. Cons: * I wish there was more flexibility in achieving huge scores via Power Cards. A lot of the conditions present for multipliers are simply too obscure and don't provide enough impact to justify (example, small multipliers or point bonuses for spelling digits or names of planets -- these are not easy to do in a game and should be rewarded more significantly. * When you pull off huge combos, the ability to fast forward or skip the point scoring would be much appreciated. It takes so long sometimes. * Some maps are very gimmicky, requiring pure luck such as the train map where you need bombs or a certain card to break through the stones. I must have played that level 20 times and never got one. Ended up with a platinum score otherwise, but it was frustrating to feel so inhibited by luck. * One thing I loved about Scrabble was the double and triple word score. These oddly aren't present as tiles within the game. Sometimes it felt like my longest words scored insignificantly, which seems counterintuitive. Overall: I really enjoyed this gem of a game. Very well-priced, works great on the Steam Deck, worth your time if you love Scrabble and Balatro!
It's pretty fun, but if you're expecting a Scrabble-type game this isn't really it. Because of the way the scoring system works, the words you actually make are fairly irrelevant and it's more about the 'score level' of their length and whatever multipliers you have. At the higher levels, the actual letter values, for the most part, have barely any bearing on the score of your word. I also think the game relies too heavily on wildcards which is another reason why it doesn't feel like Scrabble. Also, the letter Y should count as both a vowel and a consonant since it can be both.
