I completed this game blind...with only a little guide help thanks to Google Translate!
That's right. This Chinese / Japanese game I didn't understand a word of...yet I was able to complete it. Impressive? I should hope so. And here I am to answer all of your concerns...namely "I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT! IT LOOKS SCARY! IS IT FOR ME?". ...Though I wonder...was I the first English Speaker to COMPLETE this game? O_O;; Though I don't quite understand the story, another user pointed out to me that 鼈口飴 / 鳖口糖 / BEKKOUAME (or ditching the proper labeling just this once... BEKKOUAME) is about a girl who works with her parents, her older brother, a pair of twins, and a few unimportant workers. She feels bullied by all the people she lives with and wonders about her self worth. After being bullied by select people, she steals something precious from the bullies she lives with and meets with a mysterious woman who gives her a strange parasitic umbrella (Super Princess Peach, much?) that requires devouring skinny enemies or sugary berries to prevent it from eating you (the timer is always on top of the screen). The mysterious woman leads the young girl to a world of dreams and nightmares, which houses nightmare versions of the people she lives with...people that seem to want her to suffer...Are they really the monsters they seem to be, though? Controls are what you'd expect from a modified RPGMaker game. Z to attack, X for back/menu. As said earlier, you can "eat" skinny enemies, but fat enemies will explode and harm you. You have only 4 HP, so collecting purple cards is a good idea...but if you're at full health, you can accidentally keep using cards. Use cards when you see red veins on the screen or red on your character sillhouette in the menu. Through trial and error, you can figure out what everything is in the menu. As for the dialogue, your guess is probably as good as mine if you only speak English. The visuals are VERY well done. Everything looks fantastic and creepy...though the Game Over image really bothers me... Aside from that, everything looks great. The character designs look wonderful (and I want to see more of them) and the levels (though short) are presented in great detail. I also loved the soundtrack the developer(s) chose for this game. The mood was really captured and the emotions the characters had told me all I needed to know as a foreigner. So...how's the horror? Well, it's nothing like dark horror games you would expect and is pretty tame in retrospect. There is a lot of creepiness and some of the monsters are quite disturbing, but when you realize what each of them do, you'll pretty much laugh at how weak most of them are...while running for your life from the REAL threats (I hate those mouth-faced witches...). Is BEKKOUAME worth your time? Well, it's short, it's easy, it can be completed in about 2-3 hours...4 if you keep trying to figure things out (meaning you're either achievement hunting or keep trying to understand the language). Above all else, it's free! The dev team...I really can't understand a word they're saying, but they earned my respect in this beautiful game. I'd say to give it a try. If I could complete it without understanding it, you can too. Trust me and believe in yourself! 9/10 The ORIGINAL Super Princess Peach. (...okay, not really. It's a joke, but...you'll see what I mean if you play it)

So far, I've really enjoyed this game! I'm slowly working through the Japanese version as I translate it into English for my friends, but if anyone else is interested in the translation I'll most likely share it on my page at koiinmarch.wordpress.com :D I've finished the intro translation now, but I'll looking forward to the horror gameplay soon >y< I just adore the sprites and the game style so far! EDIT: Here's my translated playthrough https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJhBGICYEnY Also my guide for English-speaking players! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2883483187

RPG Maker strikes again! BEKKOUAME is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. Notably, the "developer" couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make a JRPG (the only thing it can do, and it's terrible at it). Instead, we have a simple adventure game, more e-book than a real gaming experience, and of course as happens so often with these garbage RPG Maker asset flips, the subject is the developers imaginary anime girlfriend/waifu. The cringe goes up to 11 here.. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. There's no English translation for the this, but that's okay. The language of bad products is universal. On pricing, this is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
