This game has an intense and engaging storyline combined with an extremely haunting atmosphere. I’d give it an 8/10. The game has a new update with clear mission objectives, making it much easier to play compared to before the update. Reaching the final stage requires a fair amount of effort it’s very challenging but also incredibly fun. The game length is around 2-4 hours making it well worth the price. It’s rare to find a horror game that captures a Thai style atmosphere and narrative so well. Fans of this genre absolutely need to try it!
Coming to us from solo developer Jakkit Matapitukul and financed by a second-hand electronics business called Chit Services, BECOME THE DEVIL is a slow burn style of horror story, with story beats that will be recognizable for anyone familiar with Resident Evil. The saving system is split into three chapters, and only allows any other saves in the same session. While this can be seen as a source of agitation, it also forces the player to stay with the game for long enough to understand what it's putting out, and is similar to the save systems in Henry Hoare's work. The story unfolds as a student film crew interviewing resort owners on a documentary gone wrong, but the game itself is about the thirst for revenge and how it harms the spirit. It's very ambitious, and while there is a over-reliance on backtracking and key hunting, you can tell the amount of work that went into crafting the scenario and the goal of having the player rely on their own mental map of the area to avoid getting lost. The AI can be escaped with relative ease, which is reasonable for the style of game this is with slim options for self-defense and the use of lockers to hide from enemies a la Outlast. The final battle is a puzzle boss with multiple enemies and 6 fuses to collect in a mammoth complex. To put it plainly, I wasn't good enough at the game to see its conclusion, but I cannot deny I enjoyed my time with BECOME THE DEVIL!
Das Spiel sieht okay aus aber leider crasht es andauernd. Jedes mal wenn ich auf Play drücke, stürzt UE ab
Almost never before in my life have I experienced a level of frustration that I have felt while playing this game. The game does not respect your time at all. It literally makes you run back and forth across a huge map getting one item, then you have to run across the other side of the map to get the next item. There are no real puzzles to speak of. One part of the game is you literally picking weeds and trash. Then we come to the "final battle". You have to avoid not one, not two, but three killers who can one-shot you and you're dead. Your weapon? Cans of spray and cigarette lighters scattered throughout the final map. Did I mention the map is dark as hell? Did I also mention that no matter how many times you hit the enemy with the spray or a lit gas tank bomb they simply will not die? And you have to collect six fuses. For what? I don't know, because I kept getting killed by the invincible enemies. It took me five hours of running all over a map to reach an impossible to win final battle. Absolutely unacceptable. In brief: don't waste your time unless you enjoy wasting time. Rating: 0/10
