When I first heard about Beastie Land, I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement. As a lifelong fan of retro gaming, the promise of a fast-paced 8-bit treasure platformer was music to my ears. Now that I've spent some quality time with the game, I can confidently say that Beastie Land not only lives up to its promises but also exceeded my expectations. Beastie Land is a throwback to the golden era of gaming, and it wears its retro influences proudly. The pixel graphics are a delightful sight for anyone who grew up on classic titles. Every character, enemy, and level is beautifully crafted in that nostalgic 8-bit style that we all know and love. The game captures the essence of retro gaming perfectly, and I found myself reminiscing about the hours I spent in front of my old CRT television, controller in hand. One of the standout features of Beastie Land is its soundtrack. The game boasts some of the best 8-bit soundtracks you can find in the market today. Each level's music is a catchy and infectious melody that keeps you pumped up and engaged. It's as if the game's composer reached into the past and pulled out the essence of classic gaming tunes. These tunes not only enhance the gameplay but also create a strong sense of nostalgia that had me humming along as I collected coins and hunted for treasures. Speaking of gameplay, Beastie Land delivers in spades. The fast-paced action keeps you on your toes, and there's never a dull moment. The platformer design is both challenging and enjoyable, making it perfect for both casual players and hardcore platforming enthusiasts. It's a game that demands precision and quick reflexes, and I often found myself retrying levels just to beat my own high score. One of the most addictive aspects of Beastie Land is the coin and treasure collecting. Every level is packed with shiny coins and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. This aspect of the game taps into our primal desire to collect and hoard, and I couldn't help but get hooked. It's a satisfying feeling to see your coin count rise as you navigate through each level, and it adds a layer of replayability as you strive to 100% complete every stage. Beastie Land's ability to seamlessly blend the old school era with today's technology is truly impressive. While it retains the charm and simplicity of classic 8-bit games, it also benefits from modern gameplay mechanics and graphics enhancements. This fusion results in a game that feels both familiar and fresh, making it accessible to a new generation of gamers while satisfying the cravings of those who grew up in the era of pixelated adventures. Beastie Land is a gem of a game that successfully captures the magic of retro gaming while offering an experience that is relevant and enjoyable today. With its stunning pixel graphics, infectious 8-bit soundtrack, and addictive gameplay, it's a must-play for anyone who loves platformers and has a soft spot for the classics. If you're seeking a fast, action-packed, and nostalgia-filled adventure, look no further than Beastie Land. I dare say, if you get bored with this game, you might want to reconsider your taste in gaming because it's an absolute treasure in the world of platformers.
Beastie Land is a delightful journey back in time, offering a fast-paced retro 8-bit treasure platformer experience that harkens back to the golden age of gaming. With its nostalgic visuals, addictive gameplay, and captivating 8-bit soundtracks, it's a game that manages to strike the perfect balance between honoring the past and delivering a modern gaming experience. The game's commitment to delivering an authentic retro experience is evident throughout, making it a true treasure for fans of classic gaming. While it may not introduce groundbreaking innovations, Beastie Land doesn't need to. Its strength lies in its ability to recapture the magic of old-school gaming and make it accessible to a new generation of players. If you're yearning for a trip down memory lane or simply seeking a fun and nostalgic platformer, Beastie Land is a treasure worth unearthing. It's a reminder that sometimes, the classics never go out of style. Graphics (4/5) The graphics of Beastie Land pay a heartfelt homage to the classic 8-bit era of gaming. It's a pixelated wonderland that captures the essence of the past while providing an enjoyable visual experience. The pixel art is charming and meticulously crafted, evoking fond memories of gaming's early days. The character and enemy designs are simple yet endearing, and the game world is filled with vibrant colors and imaginative landscapes. While Beastie Land revels in its retro aesthetics, it doesn't quite push the boundaries of modern technology. However, this is by design, as the game aims to deliver an authentic 8-bit experience. The graphics successfully achieve this goal, immersing players in a world that feels both familiar and nostalgic. Gameplay (4/5) Beastie Land's gameplay is a fast-paced and action-packed adventure that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The core of the game revolves around addictive coin and treasure collection, a classic element of platformers from the past. As you navigate through the various levels, the thrill of collecting treasures and coins becomes increasingly enticing. The platformer design is well-executed, offering a balance between challenge and accessibility. The controls are responsive, making movement and jumping precise. The game introduces a variety of obstacles and enemies that require quick reflexes and strategic thinking to overcome. One notable feature is the absence of boredom; Beastie Land keeps the action flowing, ensuring there's rarely a dull moment. The game's pacing encourages continuous engagement, making it easy to lose track of time as you delve deeper into the treasure hunt. Nostalgia Factor (5/5) Beastie Land excels in delivering a strong nostalgia factor. It successfully transports players to the era of classic 8-bit gaming, evoking a sense of nostalgia that tugs at the heartstrings of those who grew up with pixelated adventures. The pixel art visuals, combined with the 8-bit soundtracks, create an immersive experience that feels like a genuine blast from the past. The game's commitment to recapturing the essence of old-school gaming is commendable. It's a delightful journey that allows players to relive the magic of that bygone era while embracing the convenience and technology of today. Creativity (3/5) While Beastie Land excels in replicating the nostalgic gaming experience, it does not necessarily introduce groundbreaking or highly innovative elements. The creativity lies more in its faithful recreation of classic gameplay mechanics and aesthetics. The focus on treasure collection and platforming, while enjoyable, doesn't break new ground in the genre. However, the creative flair shines through in the game's level design, which presents a variety of challenges and surprises. The incorporation of imaginative landscapes and enemy encounters adds depth to the gameplay and keeps it engaging.
The BEST platform game I have played in recent times!! The levels were so challenging and each levels are filled with good art work. Kudos to the game designer who delivered the best in best price!
Klingt stressig? Was zum Kuckuck?
If you are looking for challenges, so try to beat each level at this game for 3 stars! There are 22 levels, where you should collect all the items and then speedrun it to the start point.
Ok, so first I thought: here's yet another asset flip platformer with the little fox... But, as such, this one really surprised me. I usually don't like it when games make you go through a level (ie, left to right) just to make you backtrack the entire level to complete it (ie, right to left again). And this game does exactly that. But at least it does it in an original way: the game changes to black and white, the music sounds at 2x speed and a ghost appears who start chasing you all the way to the start, introducing timing as an additional factor (you can't go too fast or too slow if you want to stay alive). Then, the idea of cycling through different characters and changing the level design accordingly is what warrants the name of the game. Also, nicely implemented. There are, however, a couple of things that really need to be fixed for this game to really shine among its peers. If these things get fixed, the game will greatly benefit. So here goes: - Climbing stairs is actually pretty difficult. I played with a controller and the left stick movement to climb the stairs has to be extremely precise. Normally, I would expect the character to just get on the ladder by going up, whether you're on the ground or in mid air. Here, you can't do just that. I even tried with the keyboard a couple of times, and the issue was still there, so it's not the controller. I had to repeat some levels a lot of times. On one particular level, I think I died over 400 times. - When you restart a level a number of times, whether because you die or because you choose to from the menu, the music suddenly stops, and maybe if you restart again, the music comes back and starts to gradually increase in level up to the max possible level, masking all other sounds. It's pretty annoying, to be honest. - On the fox levels, the way the character interacts with the edges of platforms is not well defined. I don't know how to better describe this, but you can get the character stuck between a wall and a platform next to it if the distance between the two is just right, forcing you to restart the level. - On the squirrel levels, when you climb a ladder, the rabbit sprite is shown. I don't know if this might be due to the fact that there is no "climbing" sprite in the squirrel set, but it's pretty noticeable nonetheless. - Level difficulty is a bit all over the place. I actually found the last few levels to be the easiest, which is kind of counter-intuitive. Other than that, I really had a lot of fun playing this game and I certainly recommend it to those who like this genre. Kudos to the dev. Keep up the good work! [and please fix these issues =)]
Seems like a good game. It's glitchy. I'm only giving this a negative review because the developer has to play the game to improve the game by fixing the glitches/bugs (also by making mistakes). The little I've played is fun. The full controller support has to be looked into as well because it's not working with all XBox controllers. Thanks. I will revisit this game if the dev makes updates. There is a lot of potential to make this a top tier game.
