Ursine 1950s retro-future comedy FPS is fun for a few hours and has some welcome variety in its platforming and various comedic bits, but both the comedy and the gameplay wear thin after a few hours; on the former side, your AI companion (not-so-cleverly named Beartana) has an incredibly grating voice, and the conceit of Forbidden Planet-esque retro robots acting sort of like people gets stale pretty fast; with regards to the latter, the robot enemies get pretty repetitive to fight, and the bullet-hell projectile patterns aren't a particularly good fit for the FPS genre, at least without significantly more in the way of evasive or defensive options than the game's mechanics afford you. May be worth a try on sale, and it's amusing for a couple hours, but that's as far as my recommendation goes.
i TRIED to enjoy it, i really did. i admit i don’t usually go here, but i’m always open to try new games, and i’ve ended up liking titles that aren’t in my comfort zones. this game is painfully tedious, and neither the story nor the gameplay motivates me to continue, let alone finish it. just thinking about booting it up literally fills my mind with dread (dramatic, i know, but not too far-fetched), so i’ll have to bench it for the time being before i actually hate it beyond saving. perhaps if the stars align i’d pick it up again. maybe. no promises.
I am late to reviewing this game, considering it's been years since I last played it (I think). It really is a fun game with an awesome foundation and basically a better version of high on life. I'm just shocked that the dev fumbled with this one by making a single critical error. That being, that leveling up weapons in this game was one of the most abysmal and tedious processes I've had the displeasure of experiencing in a game. I hate when a game could be amazing but it ends up being held back by something so painfully bad, that it ruins the game. It's like watching game of thrones and loving it and it building to something amazing, only to be completely let down by the last season. Except the dev could've fixed this issue had they looked at user feedback.
I was put off this game by some of the negative reviews - thankfully I gave it a chance as it's heaps of fun! The levels are creative, with zany weapons and a good difficulty curve. Collectables and secrets are about right, and the themes/ humor are well targetted. My only complaint is the weapon upgrades (managed by # of kills) take too long/ are grindy. Give it a go, its a great game and lots of fun, especially if you enjoy High on Life, and the new Dooms.
https://youtu.be/ZBgBfQcYz9Q Humor elements are hit or miss, while the FPS action is delivered at a much lower level.
A beautiful boomer shooter filled with long levels, collectible secrets and lots of humor!
This game gets much less attention than it deserves. The jokes are very good, there are many more good jokes in it than in the entire Borderlands series combined and there are zero ideological/political bullsh.t. The combat itself is most reminiscent of Serious Sam, so it's not overcomplicated, but the developers made sure that the game is not monotonous, there is always something happening between fights. The game is also very long. At the same time, the humor and style of the game is not for everyone. It's like a better Serious Sam 2.
Fur drifts through starfields A bear punches cosmic doom Galaxies laugh back
