I remember first coming across Beacon in a Humble Bundle Sale and then got it on Steam to have it more on my digital shelf. My very first run I managed to clear the final boss since I had snagged a mini-gun with explosive rounds right at the start which only got stronger from there, so, super fun as I'm sure you'd imagine. It's one of the few Roguelikes I actually enjoy, I love the music and sound design, the mutation idea I LOVE, I wish it got FAR more attention, as it deserved it, I hope this last week (and a bit) gives a push of sales for Monothetic, and honestly I wish we got more out of the world of Beacon, I played it a bunch during downtime in Uni, and wouldn't shut up about it the second someone asked about it. (Also the devs are UNFATHOMABLY based for making sure the game is preserved without DRM after delisting, it's far more than a lot of devs do, losing games to the void. MASSIVE points for game preservation) BUY IT BEFORE IT'S GONE IT'S A GREAT TIMEKILLER GREAT ROGUELIKE GREAT DEVS BANGING OST I JUST WANT TO GIVE POOR FREJA A HUG, ESPECIALLY WITH THE ENDINGS
Hearing about the final transmission makes me very sad. This game is or was a passion project for 10 years or so and seeing it all end like this is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sad. If any of the devs are reading this review. Yall made a great game, be proud of that.
"Bacon" 🥓
I decided to purchase this game only because it will soon disappear from the Steam store (due to the studio's closure).🤷

The gimmick is really good. Get Beacon if you like mashing all the templates onto one D&D character to make a (checks notes) corpsec eldritch abomination robot whatever. One time I rolled a gas-bladder mutation, which was ridiculous and also took away my dodge. I played them through a full run, finding half a dozen new secrets.
Fun game with a surprisingly unique gimmick; sad to see the studio behind it closing and the game being taken down as a result after having followed its development from all the way back to the itch.io days
The game just feels too unpolished. You don't feel any weight behind your weapons or actions. And there is quite a few issues tied to the 3D approach they have implemented. Where you have to shoot up/down, and the aim/weapon simply wont. Same goes for items gettings stuck on geometry++
Although I didn't have the time to play it a lot, the game is fine and I generally liked it. The review is a thumbs up for the developer's decision to preserve their creation in Web Archive before shutting down the company.
Rest in peace, Monothetic. You dropped a banger and dropped out. 🕊
