Game is awesome and fun to play, so many upgrades it makes it much more fun to play around with trinkets and skills. Huge open world to explore while you try to run away from mobs killing you. Having a blast!
It's missing a lot of QOL and polish, but for the price you can't really complain. Everything works, and there's a lot of stuff to unlock. It's a shame there's no actual co-op, but the NPC teammates are an interesting mechanic.
For the price, it's fine. But - PLEASE - add the option to turn off the TAA and/or Motion Blur. The image is a blurry mess.. PS - is there even an option to leave a run while keeping the "currency"? (or whatever devs are calling it, they're not very specific, to say the least). Update should be (highly) considered. Until then, I can't really recommend this game to anyone.
Despite the lack of achievements, therefore semi-pointless game for steam profile growth - It is epic and intense, and fun. A lot of potential, but also, perfectly addictive and satisfying as it is. Grab it in a sale for a day where brain cells require distraction.
M+K or even Gamepad can't be rebound, and as is the game is very difficult and counter intuitive to play.
Battlethorne: Survivors is a fast-paced, action-heavy survival roguelite developed and published by Primarch Interactive that leans strongly into constant combat, build experimentation, and long-term progression. Rather than focusing on narrative exposition or cinematic storytelling, the game prioritizes momentum and replayability, delivering an experience built around surviving overwhelming enemy waves, steadily unlocking power, and discovering synergies between characters, gear, and companions. It positions itself firmly within the modern “survivors-like” design space, but distinguishes itself through a third-person perspective and a strong emphasis on companion-driven gameplay. At the heart of Battlethorne: Survivors is an immediately accessible combat loop that thrives on intensity. Players are dropped into compact fantasy arenas filled with relentless enemies and are tasked with surviving as long as possible while cutting through hordes of creatures aligned with the Reaper’s forces. Combat is direct and responsive, favoring movement, positioning, and situational awareness over precision mechanics. Enemies flood the screen from multiple directions, pushing players to stay mobile and constantly reassess threats. The game’s difficulty ramps up steadily, ensuring that even successful runs are eventually overwhelmed unless builds are optimized and upgraded intelligently. Character selection plays a major role in shaping how each run unfolds. With a sizable roster of playable heroes, each character brings distinct traits that subtly alter survivability, damage output, and interaction with upgrades. Some characters feel sturdier and better suited for aggressive, close-range playstyles, while others encourage cautious positioning or synergy with companions. These differences give runs a noticeably different rhythm and help prevent the experience from becoming monotonous, especially as players experiment with multiple characters to find combinations that suit their preferred approach. One of the game’s most defining features is its companion system, which significantly expands the tactical layer of the experience. Instead of fighting alone, players can unlock and recruit a wide range of companions that actively participate in combat. These companions vary in function, with some focusing on raw damage, others providing defensive support, crowd control, or utility effects. Choosing which companions to bring into a run becomes a strategic decision, as their abilities can dramatically influence survivability and effectiveness against certain enemy types. Over time, this system encourages experimentation and rewards players who think beyond their own character’s strengths. Progression follows a classic roguelite structure, where each run contributes to long-term growth even in failure. Enemies drop gold and resources that carry over between attempts, allowing players to unlock trinkets, upgrades, and new gameplay options. This sense of persistent advancement smooths the learning curve, making early struggles feel purposeful rather than punishing. As the upgrade pool expands, runs become more varied, with powerful synergies emerging between characters, companions, and passive bonuses. This progression loop is one of the game’s strongest hooks, motivating repeated attempts and sustained engagement. Enemy variety and map design support this loop effectively. The game features multiple environments, each with its own visual identity and pacing, ranging from fortified structures to open fantasy landscapes. Enemy types are distinct enough to require adaptation, with different movement patterns and attack behaviors forcing players to prioritize targets and manage space carefully. Boss encounters and tougher enemy waves punctuate runs, acting as skill checks that test both mechanical execution and build effectiveness. Visually, Battlethorne: Survivors adopts a colorful, stylized fantasy aesthetic that emphasizes clarity over realism. Character models, enemies, and effects are designed to remain readable even during chaotic encounters, which is crucial given the sheer number of enemies that can populate the screen at once. While the presentation does not aim for high-end visual spectacle, it serves the gameplay well, ensuring that action remains legible and responsive. Sound design and music reinforce the pace of combat, maintaining tension without overwhelming the player during extended sessions. The game’s scope is intentionally focused, and that focus can be felt in both its strengths and limitations. Players looking for narrative depth, lore-heavy worldbuilding, or dramatic story arcs may find the experience sparse, as storytelling takes a backseat to mechanics. Similarly, while the core systems are engaging, the long-term appeal depends heavily on how much the player enjoys repeated runs and incremental power growth. For fans of action roguelites and survival games, this structure is familiar and comforting; for others, it may feel repetitive once the novelty wears off. Overall, Battlethorne: Survivors succeeds as a compact but energetic survival experience built around constant action, experimentation, and progression. Its third-person perspective, companion-centric design, and accessible combat give it a distinct identity within a crowded genre, while its roguelite systems provide a solid foundation for replayability. Though it may not yet rival larger or more established titles in depth or polish, it offers a satisfying and engaging loop for players who enjoy refining builds, surviving escalating chaos, and steadily growing stronger with each attempt.
