Minesweeper with a fantasy skin and a turn-based combat mini game
Pardon me but everybody knows Minesweeper. This is a minesweeper game with a slight twist. First, you pick a character: knight, wizard, etc. Then, instead of mines, when you click on a "mine", a monster appears to fight you. Both of you have a set amount of hit points and an attack. You take turns hitting each other. If you kill the monster, you can continue the game, otherwise it's game over and you start from the beginning, level 1. Each subsequent level is a bit more difficult (i.e. more mines) but otherwise it's standard minesweeper stuff. The character also levels up (more HP or better attack) or gains some one-use items (potions to heal or poison for a strong attack). There's also classic game without the minigame, with instant game over on clicking a monster.
Standard settings
You can separately adjust sound and music volume. There's fullscreen/windowed key and some UI scaling options. Controls are standard for minesweeper games (left-click for uncover a tile, right-click to mark as mine, left-click a clear tile to uncover all unmarked tiles) but unadjustable. There's also gamepad and keyboard controls.
Quite basic
Regardless of the little minigame combat, it's very standard minesweeper. It doesn't even have guaranteed solutions, so you might lose the classic game due to bad RNG. Achievements took me (proficient in minesweeper-style games) a little over an hour to play through. There's an achievement to beat 20 levels with all "characters", including classic game. Aside from achievements, there's little to offer here. For Minesweeper or similar games, you're better off playing the original, or you could check out Hexcells or its sequels for an interesting alternative.

Battle Sweeper is an interesting take on the classic Minesweeper. As it says on the Steam page, Battle Sweeper is “more than just Minesweeper with a new skin”. The big difference here is that instead of mines, you have monsters, and instead of it being game over once you hit a mine, you get to fight the monsters in classic turn-based RPG style. There are a choice of four typical RPG characters to play as. There’s a knight, rogue, lizard, and a wizard. Each have their own weapon and starting stats (HP) to reflect the character. I think of these as initial difficulty settings. As anybody who’s played RPGs may expect, the knight starts with the highest HP which would be the easiest difficulty setting, making it the perfect choice for those wanting to ease their way into the game. Currently each begin with a weapon attack range of 0-6. Personally, I think it would be even more interesting and challenging if the character’s weapons had differing initial damage too, so the knight with the broadsword would have a broader initial weapon attack range than that of the rogue with their knife. The main gameplay is as you would initially expect from a Minesweeper game. You’re clicking on tiles to reveal other tiles, and based on the numbers displayed on the tiles, you have to figure out where the monsters are. You can then mark where you suspect each monster is with so that you don’t mistakenly click and get into a battle. If you click to reveal a monster, you enter into a turn based battle to the death! There’s several different monster designs with varying health and attack ranges, and the classic RNG of the attacks play a major part in each battle. Win the battle and you can keep going. Lose against a monster and you’ll have to start again from level 1. Luckily the next game should be a little easier as you’ll retain any HP and attack bonuses gained throughout each playthrough. Alternatively, you can reset the character to play with its original HP and attack. After successfully completing each level you will receive a bonus before starting the next level. This could be an extra potion, attack boost, or an increase to your max HP, all of which will be of great use as you progress, especially if you’re click happy like me or simply find a monster on that unfortunate first reveal! There’s also an extra monster added as you reach each new level, making for quite a challenge the further you progress. Of course, for those who want to experience something more in line with the original Minesweeper, there’s a classic mode. No characters, weapons or stats, and instead of entering a battle upon finding a monster, you will simply lose the game and have to start again from scratch. As somebody who grew up playing Minesweeper and other simple games like it, I found Battle Sweeper to be a pleasant reminder. I agree with the dev, it’s certainly not just a reskin of Minesweeper and I really enjoyed the twist with the classic turn-based battles. I think a little extra could be done to make the characters a more unique and the difference in difficulty more significant, but it’s a great game as it stands either way! Battle Sweeper is basically just a ripoff of Minesweeper with a "dungeon crawler" skin on it. There's a laughably bad lightweight RPG combat bit tacked onto it. It's all rendered in terrible lazy pixel "art" because the developer either lacked the talent to do proper contemporary graphics, or lacked the budget to hire someone who could do the job properly, so it looks terrible. These guys want $5 USD for a reskinned Minesweeper game, that's a bit of a joke. Just play Minesweeper, it's free. Or play a free MMO if you want a good RPG experience. Certainly, don't pay $5 for something which is bad at trying to be both.
Well. I like minesweeper games so it's a thumbs up but with one big reservation. Classical mode is bad. There are times in minesweeper where you cant really know where the mine is and you have to take a guess. Imagine solving 20 puzzles in a row for an achievment where each puzzle can have moments like that. And to make things worse there is no total mines count in classical mode so it's even worse than original one as amount of mines left can give you a clue where to click in the end. Eh... So thumbs up as i over all game is playable and it's minesweeper. Yes.
This is a fun take on the *sweeper genre with a role playing twist. I had never played Minesweeper and never really played RPGs, so it was all new to me. After a few rounds, it was easy to learn and engaging. The randomness of the monster battles make them punishing enough to keep you motivated to level up and really pay attention to your sweeping, especially as the levels progress. The graphics and music are also quite fun. If you want something a little more engaging than traditional Minesweeper, look no further!
An endless Minesweeper game with battles.
