+++ easy, fast & cheap 100 % Steam Achievements + Steam Cloud + 50 Levels, but https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3012240261 - short https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3012240336 (--- No 5 Trading Cards) Good for Achievement Hunter & relaxed Indie Casual Puzzle Fans https://store.steampowered.com/app/731940/Bars_and_Balance/
Сыграл недавно в "Bars and Balance".

In this puzzle game you have to solve 50 levels. You have to remove bars and hope, that the rest of them still in position, when you click on launch. For every level you get an achievement. I enjoyed this game and the relaxing atmosphere.
It´s not as easy as it looks^^ Es ist nicht so einfach wie es aussieht^^
In short: It's a janky gamified physics simulation with poorly implemented controls and UI. It's very short, overpriced and little fun. For the full review I'd like to start with a word of warning: The store page says that "integraded cards may not work". Indeed, for me playing on an Intel HD 4000 lead to pretty bad lag and stuttering. I should have paid attention, so I feel like I can't fault the developer for my technical issues. To their credit: The game still ran and I was able to complete it. Disclaimer: Even though for the rest of the review I'll try to critique the game as if it ran properly, my issues may still taint my over-all impression. Each level presents you with a bunch of delicately balanced blocks stacked on top of each other. The main and really only mechanic is to rotate the camera and remove a pre-defined number of blocks by clicking on them. Then you run the simluation and if within a few seconds no blocks hit the floor you get an achievement and move on to the next level. You have to remove the specified number of blocks before the game allows you to start the simulation, so there's no way of running the original level to get a feeling for the balance and where to work on it. I never really got a sense for the weight of blocks so I solved most levels either by trial and error or by playing the devloper (some levels had obvious tacked-on structures, some had symetry, some resulted in the most absurd shapes). I guess the game is somewhat interesting as it shows you some pretty far-out structures that are still perfectly balanced and you learn something about centers of mass, but it wasn't fun to play. There are 50 pre-made levels with virtually no progression or scaling. 90% of levels require you to remove exactly 3 blocks and there's no change in difficulty through-out the game. There is a menu called "Levels Map" which as best as I can tell does absolutely nothing. You certainly can't select levels from it. At first the levels come in sequence and there's no way to skip them, which isn't really a problem as they are all very easy. After completing the game, hitting the "Play" button seemed to start completely random levels. One of my biggest gripes is with resetting levels: You cannot get back into edit mode without resetting all the blocks. It also snaps you back to the starting camera positon and furthermore completely changes the color palette each time. I found resetting a level to be extremely disorienting and jarring. The game certainly does not support iteratively improving your solution. On the technical side the game appears to be built on top of Blender (the 3D modelling software) which seemed like an interesting experiment to me. I thought this was the cause of what I found to be rather poorly implemented UI and controls, but in the comments below this review the developer corrected me, that the game was made in a common game engine and that he thinks the controls are good and already improved. From my subjective experience I respectfully disagree, but your milage may vary. Further on the technical side, the game starts in fullscreen and while you can switch to windowed mode (good!) the game doesn't remember the window size (bad!) and it's up to the player to manually resize the window so it doesn't show black bars. The game's controls almost exclusively rely on mouse. It imposes its own mouse sensitivity settings (why?) and feels very weird to control. LMB hits buttons and removes blocks, RMB rotates the camera, MMB starts the simulation. You enter menus by clicking buttons, but you can only leave some of them by hitting Esc (the single hotkey). You can start the simulation via mouse button, but can only abort it by clicking a tiny button on screen. About half of my mouse button inputs were completely disregarded, but from the video the developer links in the comments below this was probably the result of my technical issues and not a design problem. Undo and reset are clickable buttons with no keybindings (even though you'll use them quite frequently). If during a failed simulation you click the reset button it almost instantly returns you to the puzzle. But if you let the simulation expire, you'll be subjected to a loading screen to get back to the puzzle (why?). The visuals suffer from very low contrast which makes blocks hard to distinguish, as outlines were only sometimes shown. The audio is nothing to write home about either and there are no volume sliders. You can only adjust the master volume in 20 steps by clicking +/- buttons. Sound effects weren't great, music was okay. With all the technical difficulties and with taking some notes inbetween it still only took me barely over an hour of playtime to fully exhaust the game. I don't think I will ever go back to it, but even if I wanted, the replayability is poor. My standard target for puzzle games is 1 dollar/euro per hour of gameplay. If a game has something to offer and is good, I'll gladly pay more, but this is not the case here. Full price is definitely not worth it, especially given how many really good puzzle games are available at 1 dollar/euro or even lower. Even at 40% off (where I bought it) I feel it's overpriced for what little it has to offer and for how poorly it is implemented. In conclusion this is a bad one-trick-pony, that's barely a game. The controls and UI are very poor and both in terms of length and depth it has little to offer. I like to be lenient on new indie developers and wish them well on future efforts, but this is their fourth game and I feel like they should know better by now.
Only worth it during the sale since the game is very easy. Well since I enjoy puzzle games, I found it easy. Finished it in 45 minutes. I thought the 50th level was going to be tough but ended up being super easy. I think the overall idea of the game was clever. It has the right idea of becoming a decent puzzle game. If you are an achievement hunter and want to 100% games, this is for you because it'll be 100% in an hour.
It's good if you need some achievements with letters to joke a bit.
A nice little relaxing puzzle game, though also not extraordinary by any means. Each level poses you with a rudimentary construction of blocks and then a click count of blocks that need to be removed before you can "Launch" and see how things hold up after a tiny drop with physics enabled. If the construction stays together, you win the level. If it tumbles apart, you just return to the beginning state and try again. Roughly a third of the 50 levels I was able to pass successfully on the first attempt, while most others took 2-3 tries. Oddly there's not much of what can be called a difficulty curve, the majority of levels only needing 2 or 3 blocks removed. The number of removal clicks in the final few levels does grow, but by then you probably have a good sense about the types of structures to aim for and it also becomes a bit silly how obvious the unnecessary blocks are. Being frank, I feel like the creator got a bit bored working on the game and just wanted it done. I felt that most strongly in the final level. However, I do find that a shame as I think this could have made a decent series if just a tad more care and craftsmanship were put into the project. It's not a bad game, overall I had fun with it, but in terms of substance I'd compare it to a light snack of cheese and crackers and they really dropped the ball when it came to the crescendo. 3/5
