This is a game for a veeerrrry specific type of sicko. If you're a fan of "BAROQUE", and like the idea of playing a bullet hell shooter based on that (that was originally released for Windows 95), then this is for you.

archangel using multiple angelic rifles to kill a single cherub is pretty gangsta

i guess it's alright as an older shmup - not at all my genre - but it doesn't feel very Baroque, y'know? replace the sprites and a few of the sounds and it's just another shmup. the frogger clone spinoff has much stronger aesthetics and synergy with the original material. still gonna recommend because i want the original game to get the port it deserves, but if you want something that actually feels similar to Baroque (despite being a totally different genre) i'd play Become a Meta-Being instead. plus, it's cheaper. (oh, and if you want to play a modern game that feels similar to Baroque, the closest i've found is Dungeons of Blood and Dream so check that out too)

Please release the Steam version of Saturn version Baroque and the Steam version of PS2 Baroque.

I haven't played a lot of Baroque but I did spend some time with it on the Wii (I've heard the PS2 version is better). It seems like one of those niche titles where it never got wide recognition but the people who know it love it. That's why I was baffled to discover how many spin-off games it has. Among these spin-offs, two bizarrely made their way to Steam in December 2025. This was one of them - Baroque Shooting: Reversed, an updated re-release of 2000's Baroque Shooting. Unlike Baroque itself, which is a procedurally generated action dungeon crawl through a strange and twisted dungeon, Baroque Shooting: Revived is a vertically scrolling 2D shmup. Think, I don't know, something like Radiant Silvergun or Crimson Clover. It doesn't have much of a story or anything to tie it to Baroque, but it does have the look. I'm not a big shmup person. I like some of them, but I don't have either the commitment or the enthusiasm to put in the practice needed to become good. That's what a lot of shmups are about - honing your skills, beating your previous best performance. That's not me, so the shmups I enjoy are the ones that are fun even if you're not trying to master them, and Baroque Shooting: Revived manages to be one of those. Between its numerous difficulty settings, its solid gameplay, and its weird, dark vibe borrowed from the original Baroque, it has enough for even a non-shmup person to enjoy it for a while. Whether it'd tick enough boxes for someone who's really into shmups, I don't know, but for a casual player like me to have the occasional blast through it, it's pretty good.
