Barn Finders VR: The Pilot

[h1]Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2[/h1] Well, if this demo / prologue / teaser is supposed to get you excited about the full game release, then it failed miserably in its mission. This demo just really showed off the problems of the experience and the VR port. This experience is currently very rough around the edges and is not a good VR port. It's teleport only, but at least you do have smooth & snap turning along with how fast you want to turn or the degree of the turn. That's one good thing. However, all the interactions are basically point and click. There's no VOs, instead you have gibberish and text pop ups. There are some cinematic scenes, but they are done in 2D basically. At least there's 30 minutes or so of content. However, the gameplay is simply finding items in a barn you travel to automatically after finding some items in the home base (you have to find the gasoline to travel). You get to find the blow up doll and the old television, other than that you're mostly finding trash (no joke). The visuals are poor. The sounds are very basic. This is just a poor overall VR port. At least this is free so it's worth the download maybe. However, unless the experience is significantly improved, I would say the main game wouldn't be worth much. "Barn Finders VR: The Pilot" is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Barn Finders". Barn Finders is not even a real product, at least not yet (and might never be)... it's weird when developers decide to pollute Steam with advertisements for things that don't even exist. If they ever made the game, it looks like a bit of an asset flipped "tycoon" game based on the old antique pickers games, but not as good.. But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Barn Finders, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "Barn Finders VR: The Pilot" too. This is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's important to understand there's a formal process to create a demo/page for a game which hasn't been followed here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos While it might seem like an inocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off. It's impossible for me to recommend advertisements to PC gamers over full games, paid or free.

Barn Finders VR: The Pilot is a Free VR game that is a Demo ported from Barn Finders, a paid game. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. VR movement is teleport. The UI was rather clunky for the Vive. The game is limited to 2 missions, then you can revisit those locations to find random junk to pick up. The game it is ported from is a regular video game full of DLC to buy. Sort of funny and fun for a few hours. CONS: The Index controllers don't work. Try this VR Demo for a few hours, then delete it.

VR, конечно, тут для дикой галочки, даже другие бесплатный инди игры предлагают больше. С большинством предметов не взаимодействуешь, а просто кликаешь тригером на двери и вещи для продажи. С людьми тоже нельзя, а так хотелось погладить Дядю Билли по усам, но зато можно гладить своего петушка. Играл на Окулусе первом, игра немного лагала, но это поди мой картофельный комп не на 3090, да и в целом графика на ультрах выглядит довольно посредственно. Так и не понял зачем эти катсцены не в VR, а просто в маленьком окошке, но хотя бы они веселые и заставляют меня опять начать пить. Не знаю зачем делать что-то подобное в VR, лучше уж в оригинал играть, но если у вас шлем и вы хотите попробовать дичь абсолютно бесплатно, то почему бы и нет. Тут есть даже плюшевая женщина, если вы проектируете такое в VR.

I don't know how I found this gem but it was definitely a fun time. With the bad taxidermy and unintelligible billy I didn't want to put my headset away. P.S. don't open the out house door my ears were violated. I do wish that the movement (walking) was easier having to push down on the thumb stick was painful after awhile.
