Updated review Recent updates have really propelled Balls! into the premier league of VR cricket games. This is also a fun game to play and puts you front and centre against some seriously good bowling. Barring a few issues, i.e. no sound for when your bat hits the floor and your hands being a little too high on the bat handle, the batting action is spot on. There are also lots of great scenarios to play. The developers are listening and are responsive, and provided these and a few other minor issues are sorted out then this game will be for me, easily the number one VR cricket game and a must have for any sports orientated VR owner. Original review I really enjoyed the limited time I have spent playing so far and with the promise of a significant update very soon I am happy to give this a big thumbs up.
DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE OCULUS RIFT S <- DEVELOPERS PLZ - Game is so good but it doesn't work on the Rift S so I can't play it anymore. Developers Plz I want to smack balls
+Cricket (If you're into that) VR +accurate swinging +lots of modes -Pricey for single Sport -Annoying sounds 2.5/5 I'd give this a Neutral/Informational because if you like Cricket, you might enjoy this game. However I've never played cricket myself so I can't review properly. But the rating i gave it was due to it not being very fun to me, the sounds were extremely annoying, it's pricey for the content. I didn't like it at all. If you liked this review Click here and follow for more reviews of VR titles. Played this game after playing iB cricket and Cricket club VR. The developer seriously needs to fix some basic issues. Basic customization is not available. It's the same bowler who keps bowling in all formats. Absolute waste of money. Watch my review before buying the game. https://youtu.be/tfY0UGa4Arc
Probably the best VR Cricket game on Steam. All the modes you would want are there! Runs nicely and the realism feels very good.
Bowling is far too fast to enjoy this game.
Absolute garbage physics . Ball will sail over the boundary and will only be given four runs, balls will rebound off the boundary back to the bowler to be awarded 1 run. Every bowler runs off a spinners run-up. Fast bowlers are too fast, you can only hit them if you just hold your bat down in front of the stumps the whole time. Bowlers will bowl far wide of the wicket ball after ball with no wides called. Sometimes, the ball will go missing and the fieldsmen will start freaking out . It's a pity as there is a lot of content, it's just a shame as the core gameplay is absolute rubbish. I'd recommend Cricket Club over this.
I enjoy this one, with dev could be quite good
I have bought a number of cricket games as I love the game and have played it for over 20 years. However, none of the game are yet at the stage where they can be regarded as being great. Having said that, I would thing Balls! probably needs to do the least amount to make it a fully fledge cricket game. The biggest issue with all the cricket games are the speed of the ball and the resultant impact with the bat. Unfortuantely, Balls! is the least realistic. The leg spinner is bowling bouncers. The speed at which the fast bowler delivers is just a tad below the speed of light I would think. And the way the ball flies off despite me just blocking is totally unrealistic. The only playable option in this game is to go into the practice nets and put on slow bowling to have some realistic fun. Otherwise the game is unplayable and frustrating. Recommendations to make the game great: 1. Change the bowling speeds. This is not sticks cricket and if that is what you are emulating then it is a waste given how great this could be. I think the best way of resolving this issue is to provide an ingame option to change teh speed of the ball as a level. From maybe 10 to 100. When you change the speed it should change the speed of all the different styles by that margin across the board. For example, if I change the speed to 80% of what is the fastest then all other bowling styles should also be adjusted by 20%. 2. The way the ball comes off the bat is not realistic. This may be resolved somewhat when the speed of the ball is changed but I doubt it. The ball flies off no matter if you are blocking or taking a swing. The game should be taking into consideration the speed of the ball, the speed of the bat swing, the angle at which impact is made between the bat and the ball and the timing of that impact. For example, if I am blocking and the ball hits the middle of the bat, it shouldnt go flying off, it should maybe dribble 3-5 meteres infront of the bat. And when I am blocking but it hits the edge, it is reasonable that it might fly a certain distance but not for a six or 100 meters in the air everytime. 3. provide more options to the player. Allow uys to pick what kind of bolwers we want to play a match against. Providing this option right now will mean you will have more time to work on the other issues mentioned above. It will mean the game will become playable right now with the use of slow bowlers.
So, the game is back and alive....and good. After some terrible comms from the devs they have now produced a patch which has really polished the game and added animated fielders and a new front end which includes net practice and scenerio's. As per the previous version of the game, the game plays true to the sport and you do feel you are 'in the game'. I'd recommend playing it only on hard as the other levels are too easy and not a challenge. Things I would like to see updated from my limited play time of the new patch. - Fielders move position during the game - Too many 3's. The ball seems to just end up by the boundry too many times - Balls going wide leg side and to the boundry for instance are not given as runs - Bat hitting the ground - Global high score board. (This may be there, but so far all I have seen is local scores shown) Future updates would be good to have wear on the pitch the longer you progress making for more spin turn and the ball sticking (keeping low). Basically variation. and also different grounds to play on. Overall a good update and the game is worth picking up now.
