"Ballad of The Masked Bandits" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from University of Utah in the USA. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. The students made an unambitious low poly cartoony western themed puzzle game where you control three racoons in a trenchcoat to steal stuff. Could work if implemented well, but the students didn't even bother finishing the game. They got their grades and walked away. This leads to some embarrassing job interviews where the students show their portfolio of one game that they didn't even finish. I guess they could get a job with pretty much any AAA publisher, because they also don't finish their games. The developers abandoned this 5 years and 9 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. The graphics aren't great, low quality low poly stuff meant to look stylised but just looks bad. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. This game is fairly dated at 6 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Given that this free student project won't count toward your game collection or add any achievements, and because it's not really a full game and more of a homework assignment, it's not a worthwhile download.

Игра 'Ballad of The Masked Bandits' – это увлекательное приключение в стиле вестерна с щепоткой магии.
the only puzzle i enjoy
This is actually a really good game. The controls are easy to learn and the puzzles actually make you think in a different way than other games. For the people that are saying you get caught while controlling other characters, that's part of the puzzle. You need to find spots to hide the other raccoons
Без русского.
With a little more tutorial on the movement and a little bugfixing on the cart and maybe make the racoons a little slower, its hard to controll them for unexperienced players, i think slowing them down would fit the puzzle game genre more, its not a jump and run. and maybe fix the camera or tell me how to move it
In this game you play as three members of the B.U.D.D.Y. Alpha Squadron who have been captured by the Prison Industrial Complex. You then get involved in some wasteland hijinks. Although the plot of this game is a carbon copy of Darkness_Selphie's StarCraft custom map (just kidding), the first level does work and I guess I had fun. I'll go back and do the second level later, but I'm in no rush since this is abandonware and the second level is also the last level.
incredibly frustrating. 10/10 would recomend
