BadTrip is a surreal and uneven survival horror shooter developed and published by Play Games Ltd that attempts to blend third-person action, psychological horror, and dark comedy into a single, fragmented experience. Set largely within an ominous forest and its surrounding nightmarish offshoots, the game presents itself as a descent into chaos where reality, hallucination, and absurdity collide. From the outset, it is clear that BadTrip aims to stand apart from conventional horror titles, not through polish or restraint, but through ambition and unpredictability, even if those ambitions are not always fully realized. The narrative structure is one of the game’s most distinctive and divisive elements. Rather than following a single, coherent storyline, BadTrip unfolds across multiple chapters that frequently shift perspective, tone, and even the role of the player. Early on, players control Jack, an overworked man seeking escape from city life who finds himself trapped in a rapidly escalating nightmare after a family outing goes horribly wrong. As the story progresses, the game veers sharply into surreal territory, introducing bizarre plot turns, talking objects, tribal rituals, and even sections where the player controls monstrous entities rather than human protagonists. These abrupt tonal shifts create a dreamlike quality, but they also make the story feel disjointed, as if several different horror concepts were stitched together without a unifying narrative spine. Gameplay primarily revolves around exploration and combat in dark, enclosed outdoor spaces. The forest acts as both setting and antagonist, with limited visibility, narrow pathways, and frequent enemy encounters designed to keep players on edge. Combat is third-person and action-heavy, offering a wide selection of weapons ranging from pistols and rifles to shotguns, explosives, and melee tools. On paper, this arsenal promises variety, but in practice the combat often feels clumsy and imprecise. Automatic aiming and loose enemy behavior result in encounters that feel more chaotic than tense, with difficulty stemming less from thoughtful design and more from mechanical inconsistency. Enemy variety includes hostile humans, cult-like figures, and supernatural creatures, each intended to reinforce the game’s horror atmosphere. While some encounters succeed in creating momentary stress, the lack of refined AI and inconsistent hit detection undermine their impact. The game frequently leans on quantity over quality, throwing multiple enemies at the player in ways that feel more exhausting than frightening. As a result, fear often gives way to frustration, especially during prolonged combat-heavy sequences that interrupt exploration and narrative pacing. Visually, BadTrip shows flashes of potential but struggles with cohesion. The forest environments are occasionally effective at establishing mood, using darkness, fog, and narrow sightlines to evoke isolation. However, asset quality varies noticeably from scene to scene, and environmental repetition diminishes the sense of discovery. Character models and animations are similarly inconsistent, sometimes breaking immersion during moments that are meant to be serious or unsettling. Sound design attempts to compensate through ambient noises, distant threats, and unsettling audio cues, but uneven mixing and limited variety reduce their overall effectiveness. What ultimately defines BadTrip is its experimental nature. The game clearly strives to subvert expectations by blending horror with absurd humor and sudden perspective shifts, but this approach comes at the cost of cohesion. Moments of creativity and originality are present, yet they are frequently undermined by technical roughness, awkward pacing, and unclear design priorities. The horror rarely has time to settle before being disrupted by tonal whiplash or mechanical issues, making it difficult for tension to build in a sustained way. In the end, BadTrip is a game driven more by ideas than execution. It may appeal to players who enjoy unconventional, low-budget horror projects that embrace strangeness and are willing to tolerate rough mechanics in exchange for unpredictability. However, those seeking a polished survival horror experience with refined combat, consistent storytelling, and carefully paced tension are likely to find the experience frustrating rather than frightening. As a result, BadTrip stands as a curious but flawed experiment—one that reflects ambition and creativity, but ultimately struggles to deliver a cohesive and satisfying horror journey. Rating: 4/10

A játék egészen szórakoztató. Pár órát el lehet vele ökörködni. Jól irányítható... Könnyen átlátható. Némi fejlesztéssel szerintem ez a játék ütős lenne. Túl korán adták ki (vagy csak kifogytak a kreativitásból).
love the game hahaha
