''Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind'' - Dr Seuss The title Axion Alternative exactly matches this short kinetic Visual Novel based on characters from the Welcome to Chichester series because Axiom can mean truth so the game title aptly becomes Alternative Truth and is read as a collection of skits. Why are they skits? Well, anyone who has played the original series will see the personality of the characters do not match yet previous players will also see that the adopted personality is reflecting the recognisable weaker characters from the WTC series and this writer, Redewaan Duckett, has empowered them to portray how they would look if they spoke out against the controlling characters of the original series. This is clear in the writing of this because we see, in the short skits, references taken from the original series that are redeemed as an alternative truth such as Cindi Eglantine, Tia, Hebkya even Autumn all appearing more confident in their actions & beliefs. Meanwhile with characters that already were strong-minded, Grendel and Lorinda for example, we see Grendel playing pranks that Bart Simpson would be proud of and Lorinda continuing to intimidate the female characters in her twisted beliefs they are out to seduce the male protagonist. There are also 2 funny skits where both Grendel and the main protagonist reveal stories from their past that are both embarrassing and 'scars' them during that past experience. When you think on each Axiom Alternative and it's topic versus the character attitude change it becomes clear that this is a cleverly written way to show a 'voice' to the weak, to confront the mental and/or physical abuse content of the original series and to show the consequences on marriages some actions have yet all of this done in a comedy skit approach to avoid the 'preaching'. Personally, I admire that the Developers/Publishers were willingly giving their characters & story content for this especially as it has onion layers of a positive message of awareness across all areas. There are achievements available to unlock as the chapters progress while 2 of the achievements include a speed-run and playing the game on a specific date. Throughout the game there is a good mix of music while the credits has a featured song that is a mash-up of varied ones much like a 'megamix' of old. The artwork is bright, lively and features the same character art as in the series while some location scenes are new to this kinetic VN. The options menu has a wide variety of choices ranging from volume, skip choices, accessible choices such as Dyslexic text and Voice while also providing ample saves all through the Ren'Py engine. The completion time is easily achievable in under 30 minutes as each chapter skit is very short with a total of 15 chapters overall. ~~~Liked what you see? Axiom Alternative is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This e-book was slapped together with the godawfully bad Ren'Py Visual Novel/E-Book construction kit, so just like no professional writing took place here, no professional game development took place either, it's just a product of filling out templates in the construction kit. This disastrous train wreck is possibly bringing us close to the rock bottom of pollution that infests Steam. Not only is this not a game, it's not even a bad fan-fiction E-book.. it's fan-fiction FOR another fan-fiction E-book. It's a sloppy, craptastic reinvention of the Chichester series of literary dribble that's been polluting Steam and worsening crapware Daily Indie Game bundles for years. And, surprises to nobody, it's even worse than a Chichester E-book. I never imagined such a thing could be possible, but this is pure, ultra refined garbage. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. You can get better quality books and comics for free online or from public libraries, or from bookstores for a fraction of the price of this "game". Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
Online Stalking and Harrassment
The developer has started stalking me, delivering personal attacks and is attempting to publicly cyberbully and intimidate me by posting hitpiece videos and articles. Why? Because I wrote an honest and frank assessment about an objectively bad and failed product. It's an objective failure rejected by gamers, for the reasons I supplied in my accurate review. Certainly, the hitpieces the stalker/developer has linked up in response to some of my reviews are false and misleading, but cyberbullies don't care about facts, they just want to intimidate and silence the truth. This behavior from the developer is utterly unacceptable, and is a chilling attempt to intimidate and stifle reviewers. Now, you can look at the objective facts of my review, and then have a look at how this reviewer is attacking and intimidating reviewers, and suddenly the overwhelming rejection of his craptastic Ren'Py asset flips makes a lot more sense. I will not be intimidated or silenced by stalkers and bullies.

Very weird game (and I like visual novels). Won't recommend it until it's free.

Beware, Im not a fan of visual novels, so your mileage may vary. But the dialogue seems extremely obnoxious to me. So I heavily dislike this from both a general POV, me not liking visual novels and also from the POV of me attempting to be neutral. Im on a quest of at least trying every game in my library, of which I got plenty from all kinds of bundles. So please dont judge me for owning this title in the first place :D If you are interested in my journey, check out my other reviews :)
Solid experience overall. Worth checking out.
If you enjoy the Welcome To... Chichester series as much as I do then you need to add this amazing Visual Novel to your collection. The story follows several characters from the original series.
